Only been vaping for 3 days. I have noticed that I am having lung pain (like on days you smoke waaaay too many analogs). I have also developed congestion and excess phlegm in my throat. I cleared my throat so many times yesterday that my diaphragm and ribs are sore today. My sinuses are also irritated. Is this normal for beginners? My husband doesn't seem to be having these problems. We are using ego twists with nova tanks and ce4's. 60/40 juice.

You're brand new, and it's possible this time of year you are actually coming DOWN with something. So could be totally coincidental

OTOH, it could be vaping. It's not normal, but you may be sensitive to PG or one of the flavorings in your juice. Do you have anything else to switch to?

If you're coming down with a cold or virus then you willl know for certain in another day I think.

Likely cause: smoking cessation.

If the problem persists: switch to the highest percentage Glycerin USP (VG) based nicotine e-liquid you can find, unflavored. If the symptoms improve then introduce Propylene glycol USP (VG) and flavorings into the e-liquid mix, if you wish.

If your current problems are not related to smoking cessation (which they probably are) then the problem may be an allergic reaction to PG, artificial flavorings or VG, in that order.

To rule a PG sensitivity or something in artificial flavor in/out you might want to try Virgin Vapors juices. They have 100% VG juice and they don't use artificial flavorings. Also, the flavorings they do use contain no PG. They don't use artificial sweeteners so VV isn't a great place to get anything sweet but their fruit flavors are excellent. I'm not a coffee juice fan but a lot of people also like some of the VV coffees.

If the VV juice solves your problem try one juice with 10% PG/90% VG to see if PG is the culprit. If it isn't, it could be you are allergic to something in the flavoring of the juice you are using.

100% VG is is too viscous to vaporize in our e-cigarettes and contains no nicotine. It must be thinned to work with carto fillers or wicks. 100% VG is Glycerin USP which is 99.7% pure, not 100%.

Beware of anyone who sell an e-liquid claiming that it is 100% VG. It is not. The vendor is not including nicotine, the nicotine base, the flavoring base or other thinners included in the recipe.

Science is science, marketing is, well... marketing.

That doesn't sound like a fun way to start vaping! :(
I would put my money on either PG sensitivity, or you are coming down with a nasty cold/flu, or both. I recommend getting some e-liquids that have a higher VG/PG ratio, if not 100% VG. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water. Vaping PG dehydrates you from what i've heard. I get a very dry mouth and a slight headache if I don't drink lots of water throughout the day.

Also be aware that there are unexpected ingredients in some flavors, for instance I've read there are often either praline or peanut flavors in 555, which is a tobacco flavor (though not a NATURAL tobacco flavor.)

I thought I was just being paranoid, but this is why I stay away from most fruity flavors (aside from the basic grapes, apples, etc.) I'm very allergic to guava and passionfruit....pistachios too. I'm just glad that I don't have my sister's nut allergies. If she was a vaper, she would stop breathing if there was even the slightest trace of nuts in her juice.

Thank you for all of your input. I am using an ego twist with ce4 and nova tanks. I am using a 60/40 mix at 18mg. I just ordered me and my husband a BUNCH of juice at a 50/50 mix. Hopefully, I am not PG sensitive, because we will have enough juice on hand to last several months. I don't think I am getting ill in general because I have gone light on the juice today and continued smoking analogs...although drastically fewer than normal. We are just finishing up the rest of the carton we had on hand when we invested in vaping. I don't have the horrible symptoms today that I did yesterday. I also changed flavors. Yesterday, I was smoking bubblegum and coconut. Didn't care much for either. Today was cinnabon and coffee w/caramel. I did okay with both, other than the throat clearing. No serious lung pain or major sinus problems. They both still flare up mildly, though only while vaping.

Oh that sounds bad, hope you are well now.
Some might be sensitive to PG.
Try using more VG than PG 70/30.

My first setup was an eGo 650 mah with the type a atomizers. At the time I had no idea even how to vape other than what I would see in the youtube videos and the information in this forum. So, I would try to vape all of the liquid in the little tank to save money and eliquid. After a couple of days of using the little atomizers that came with it the draw kept getting harder and harder, so I would draw in harder. Plus the juice was 50/50 pg/vg. After two weeks of doing this my throat felt like it was on fire and hurt like blazes.

So after reading this forum for hours, I came across cartomizers. Remember I had no idea of how to vape at all. So I called the vendor I got my setup from and asked a few questions. It was like pulling teeth. I explained that I was so new I squeaked but yet she wasn't giving me any ideas. So I mentioned that I didn't want to constantly be fiddling around refilling the little tanks and I wanted a warmer vape and would like to order some cartomizers.

As soon as I got them, I filled one up, and the rest is history. From single cartomizers I graduated to dual coil tanks to clearomizers, and on and on. So my answer to you is that vaping should not irritate your throat to the point of pain. Look in this health forum and others to get the answers to your questions: Health and Medical Issues

Thankfully I've found very helpful and friendly vendors and they've gone out of their way to answer my questions and make suggestions. Of course, I'm mature enough to know that if the product I buy doesn't work out it is ultimately my decision to buy it and not the vendor's fault.

I've spent hours upon hours reading through the information here, and the only advice I can give you is to read for yourself. Good luck, hope your symptoms go away, you find the cause of your distress, and vape on!
