Constantly needing to switch out cartomizers due to burnt taste

I find myself constantly having to switch out my cartomizers. I get a sudden burnt taste after 2-4 days, sometimes even in less than a day, and with some cartomizers lasting up to a week (rare). I was under the assumption that they were supposed to last roughly two weeks or so.

I use a Provari v2.5 with standard resistance XL cartomizers (I think 2.9 Ohms) and a tank from IBTanked. Juices I vape are fruity mentholy flavors at 50pg/50vg with 6mg or 12mg of nicotine from ECBlendz. I generally vape at voltages ranging from 4.5 to 5.5, and I vape roughly 3-6 ml of juice a day.

When I first switch my cartomizers, I start them off at around 3.5 watts and gradually work my way up as I was told that doing so gradually breaks in a new cartomizer. I believe I fill the new cartomizers correctly as well (drip juice around the rim without getting it in the middle tube, blow to push the juice down, and repeat until juice starts leaking out of the punched hole). I've also bought cartomizers from multiple stores, although I always get the standard resistance XL ones.

What am I doing wrong? I thought perhaps I might be vaping at too high of a voltage, but I have a friend who vapes with his Provari at 5.5 watts with no problems. Should I be using a different type of cartomizer? How do the different Ohms affect the vapor? Does my Provari itself have an issue? If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I use genuine Boges (3.0). I punch my own (2 holes) and I use 70/30. 50/50 is moderatley thick but should be fine. Do you punch your own and are yours 1 hole or 2? IME boges are the best PERIOD! I get at least two weeks out of mine on average with an occasional 1 of 10 being a bad draw or bad overall vape. Some of my boges have lasted well over a month.

I vape my 70/30 at 4.2 volts on a provari V2 using a vaperfexion pro V2 tank and I dont ramp up the voltage. I just check the resistance first at 3.7V then bump it right up to 4.2.

Works for me

My personal experience is fruit flavors are delicate and can taste burnt at any voltage above 3.8 volts. I generally use 3.4 - 3.6 volts with my fruit flavors. Other flavors I often use higher voltages 3.7 - 4.5 volts for best flavor.

I'm making the assumption you are using single coil carts? A 3.0 ohm carto is the correct resistance to use for a Provari, although any voltage above 5.0 volts might be pushing it. The Safe Vaping Power Chart is a useful guideline to match voltage with resistance.

Is your friend who vapes his Provari at higher voltages also using fruit flavors? If not, this could play a major role in the difference of vaping experience.

I will often "top off" the cartomizer when I do a tank refill. One of the keys to prevent a burnt taste is to keep that filler in the carto wet. Having said that, it's not unusual for the top of the filler to look dry after a few vapes. That doesn't mean bottom of the filler where the heating coil is located is dry, too. As long as that lower part of the filler is kept wet you shouldn't be getting a burnt taste.

If a coil does burn the filler, you will never be able to remove that taste. Consider it ruined and replace it.

How many holes are you using in your cartomizer? Laser-drilled pre-punched, or hand-punched yourself? Fruit flavors are normally pretty thin, and a 50/50 ratio should not be too thick for a couple of laser-drilled holes to adequately wick.

You can do occassional primer puffs (sucking without power) to pull more juice into the carto as you vape.

Thank you everyone for your input. I'm not exactly sure what brand my cartomizers are. I buy them from various places and they don't say any specific brands on them. I buy pre-punched cartomizers with one hole about a mm in diameter. Is there a benefit to punching your own cartomizers? And what materials would I need to do so? How do the different PG/VG ratios affect the cartomizer? And what about the different types of flavors? I don't top off my cartomizer that often. Just sometimes when I'm refilling my juice. Is this something that I need to be regularly doing? It seems slightly inconvenient to be doing constantly when I'm out and about. And my friend who uses a Provari does vape juice flavors. I'll try all the things you guys suggested and see if it works better for me. Thanks once again!
