Hey guys and gals..

I was having a good day this morning. Got up, shaved, showered, visited with Mrs E at her work for a bit, then headed to Walmart to pick up some ice cream, Diet Dr Pepper, and windshield wiper fluid. Get the kids back in the van, back out of my parking spot, right at the same time a BMW was being backed out of his parking spot... I saw him a split second too late, and I dont think he saw me at all. The collision was right in the middle of the row. The one guy that witnessed it said "Im not going to bother giving either of you my info as a witness... Its too close to call and point blame at either of you." So, I spent the last half hour on the computer filing a claim. Ungh....

Aw poop. :( Hopefully there isn't much damage on either side, and the insurance companies aren't idiots.

I say go with a truck. I loved my full-sized truck. Sold it for an SUV, and two weeks later my (then 1-yo) daughter and I were in the hospital because some crazy lady ran me out of my lane and the SUV lost control, flipped, and smacked a telephone pole. Luckily my daughter was fine. I still have some short-term memory issues from a brain injury. I also still have back and neck problems. Thank goodness for my awesome chiropractor.

Needless to say, I don't trust SUV's any more. Granted, mine was an older model, but they still scare me.

Ok, posse, what's your take on Siberian Huskies? Anyone own one?

Our dog is pretty old now, and my husband wants to get the kids a puppy. I've never done the puppy-shopping thing, all of our dogs up to this point have been adult rescues.

I'd like either an Australian Shepherd or a Husky, and the kids have chosen Husky. So I've been researching the breed for months and I think we'll be ready to adopt soon. My only concern is the cats and the bunny. I've read that their prey drive is strong. My sister has a husky/lab and he tries to get the neighborhood cats.

I'm wondering if I can acclimate a young husky puppy to living with small animals, or if I should just look for another breed.

Thoughts?

I should add:

I realize they're shedders, I realize they need TONS of attention and exercise. I work from home so the dog would almost always have someone around. I also realize they can be destructive when unhappy. I'm completely willing to accept these things.

Also, because of their fiercely independent nature, we will have the puppy in puppy obedience school, so he will be properly trained. (I'm also a pretty damn good dog trainer as it is, if I do say so myself lol)

There isnt too much on either vehicle. But since his was a BMW, I have a feeling his is going to cost more to repair.

Ive never filed a collision claim before. My last accident was when I was 16 and on my parent's insurance. I filed a claim when my '92 Z28 caught on fire, and that was a pretty pain free process. My insurance company is USAA and Ive been really happy with them since we switched to them. BUT, like I said... Ive never filed a collision claim before.

MoD... I have a cousin that has a husky, and he's an awesome dog. The biggest issue he has with him, is making sure he stays cool and doesnt overheat. He stays outside in the winter, but has to stay inside in the summer. As far as overall temperament, he's hyper as hell, but very gentle when playing. But, he has no other pets that could be considered prey. Good luck with the choice!

USAA is wonderful!!

We've had them for 12 years, and have filed a couple of claims. The first was when my husband totaled my 7-month-old Corolla. They paid for the remainder of the vehicle value and even though the wreck was my hisband's fault out rates did not go up. Never had a single issue with USAA. Good luck!!

If we go with a husky, we'll use a registered breeder in the south, so we know the parent dogs have acclimated well to warm weather. But we should have no issues with a mainly inside dog. Our dog now is about 45 lbs (and until recently was extremely hyper!) and she's mainly an indoor dog. The kids will keep him entertained, and we can walk him in the early morning and in the evening during the summer, so we won't drag him outside to exercise in the heat of the day.

Doesn't matter now. We just talked and I voiced my opinion and we decided to just wait a while longer to buy something. I drive a truck now and we'd keep that one so wed still have a truck.
