I should add:

I realize they're shedders, I realize they need TONS of attention and exercise. I work from home so the dog would almost always have someone around. I also realize they can be destructive when unhappy. I'm completely willing to accept these things.

Also, because of their fiercely independent nature, we will have the puppy in puppy obedience school, so he will be properly trained. (I'm also a pretty damn good dog trainer as it is, if I do say so myself lol)

You already hit the points I was gonna say except if you live in a warm climate, it needs to be an inside dog and whatever you do don't let anyone talk you into shaving it. Deshed it and brush regularly. If shaved, the hair will never, ever be the same. :2cents: as long as its inside and only outside to potty when its warm/hot outside its fine.

I recommended getting a slicker brush, metal tooth comb, coat king, and possibly a furminator. They have a thick undercoat when full grown and it can become matted underneath and look fine in top. All those can be bought at www.petedge.com or www.ryanspet.com. Prices are better than the big name pet stores. I buy all my work supplies from them.

Ok, posse, what's your take on Siberian Huskies? Anyone own one?

Our dog is pretty old now, and my husband wants to get the kids a puppy. I've never done the puppy-shopping thing, all of our dogs up to this point have been adult rescues.

I'd like either an Australian Shepherd or a Husky, and the kids have chosen Husky. So I've been researching the breed for months and I think we'll be ready to adopt soon. My only concern is the cats and the bunny. I've read that their prey drive is strong. My sister has a husky/lab and he tries to get the neighborhood cats.

I'm wondering if I can acclimate a young husky puppy to living with small animals, or if I should just look for another breed.

Thoughts?

The only trouble we ever had was when they got out of the yard and killed the neighbors chickens. . I was horrified, but they weren't our chickens so the dogs didn't see them as pets.

Edit: not that I plan on leaving the bunny and dog alone together, I just want to minimize the chance of an accident

I talked to the kids more about the dog this morning.

Turn out they've already chosen a puppy.

I've sent a message to the owner, hopefully I hear back soon.

Here's his photo, he's in GA but I'd be willing to drive up.

With my luck, he's already been claimed. But we'll see!

Way to start a Sunday...Sucks...

Hey guys and gals..

I was having a good day this morning. Got up, shaved, showered, visited with Mrs E at her work for a bit, then headed to Walmart to pick up some ice cream, Diet Dr Pepper, and windshield wiper fluid. Get the kids back in the van, back out of my parking spot, right at the same time a BMW was being backed out of his parking spot... I saw him a split second too late, and I dont think he saw me at all. The collision was right in the middle of the row. The one guy that witnessed it said "Im not going to bother giving either of you my info as a witness... Its too close to call and point blame at either of you." So, I spent the last half hour on the computer filing a claim. Ungh....

Well we're not going out tonight, but I stopping work now anyway. I'm burnt out. I need to clean for my sisters visit next week, but all I want to do is sit mindlessly on the couch.
