And unless you have something to hide, no big deal. If you refuse, they have reason to get a warrant based on suspicion. Why go through all that hassle over a vape? Five minute test on the side of the road, or five month court battle? I'll take five minutes.

Oh c'mon. That is no reason to consent to a search, ever.
When they are asking 9 times out of 10 its cause they can't get a warrant. Even if they can, I wouldn't consent to it. Let them go get one. When I am pulled over, the conversation happens through a 1" opening in my window. Conversation with the LEO is extremely limited.
If they ask, "is this you, Mr. XXXX"
I say, "yes".
If they ask, "Is this your vehicle/registration/etc."
I say, "yes"
If they ask, "you know why I pulled you over?" or "Know how fast you were going?"
I say, "Officer, I am not answering any questions"
You give them that answer a couple of times, and they get the picture.
If they ask, "You had anything to drink?" is about the only exception.
I say, "no"
If they follow up, I respond, "Asked and answered, officer. I am not answering any more questions"
Nothing
you say can help you in court. Nothing
they say can help you in court.
Only bad things can happen by agreeing to talk to them. Now I am not saying never to communicate with the police, but I am saying if you are involved in a criminal or traffic matter, do not do it.
Watch the video and argue with this logic. It is long (48 mins), but the second half of it is a cop agreeing with the attorney.
