Around a year ago we switched from name brand to generics. I can't remember the exact difference, but it was substantial.
I used the price we were paying for our generics at the time I quit in my smoke meter. We live in Illinois but are right on the Indiana border. We paid $40 per carton, and my wife and I bought two cartons every week. $320 a month on cigarettes between the two of us! And there were months where we smoked more than usual. Since I use Quicken to track my finances and I always use my debit card to buy smokes, I can see how much I spent in any given month. I have seen months where we spent almost $500 on cigarettes (although that was before switching to generics).
My meter is for my personal usages, but my wife smoked roughly the same amount and we both quit on the same day, so it is interchangeable.
Although I have probably spent around $400 on e-cig supplies over the past few weeks, we have enough to last us for at least 6 months to a year. Huge difference! And so long as batteries and atties hold up, we can make our own nic-free juice for next to nothing. Plus, we hope to drop the e-cigs eventually and be done with everything.
