Coughing up blood?

Maybe just to find out if this were worth a trip to ER.

True. Although it should be obvious, humans are strange creatures. My gallbladder blew and once the initial pain subsided (which had me writhing on the floor vomiting uncontrollably), there's always that little thought in the back of your head, "Maybe it's not that bad."

Yeah, it was that bad, I had it out, I got better.

I've never heard of anything good about coughing up blood.

On the other hand, I have heard of people who want/need their "15 minutes of fame" ? I hope that's not the case here...that the OP was/is confused and didn't know where to turn at that moment and happened to be here on ECF and didn't know what to do?

Then We all then chimed in and it helped them figure out to go to the ER and get medical assistance, if indeed, it was medical assistance that they needed.

If I was the OP and read the part I underlined I would not return to this thread.

Left a visitor message on their profile page, letting her know we are all sitting here and concerned. And a friend request.

And this is the respectful way to get the OP to return. Good on Ya!!!

My prayers sent to the OP.

Depends on how much one values ones own life, I tend to put a pretty high value on my own life so I'm going to the ER post haste if I'm coughing up blood I don't need to ask. However to each their own and I understand some my not realize the importance.

So you read part of my post, underline a portion, and deem me to be disrespectful?

I stated something that I had heard, and then reiterated that I hoped the OP was ok. I left a message on her page because I'm truly concerned and feel sorry for the OP. It was not intended to be disrespectful and sorry that you or anyone else, including the OP felt that way. Some of us state things that we've heard. Some of us call it as we see it, as you did. Thanks:)

But you are right, if I read the part you underlined, and if it was true, hmmmm

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am really sorry I didn't get a chance to get on here sooner.... it's been a crazy, crazy day. I did go to the ER last night, but after waiting for four hours and not being seen, I left. Called my doctor this morning and made an appointment to be seen tomorrow at 11:30. The nurse seemed to think it was something that needed to be looked at right away. Thanks so much for all of your concern and posts. I truly did not know whether I should go to the ER or not, because I have a tendency to blow things out of proportion when I'm sick. Thanks again to all and I will let you know what the doctor says. I swear, if this turns out to be an ulcer or something, I'm going to be really embarrassed.

Thanks for listening. :)

You did the Right Thing.

And I Didn't think you blew Anything out of proportion. Better to Go ASAP and find out. Even if it is Something Minor. Than to put it Off or Down Play it if it is Something Not-So-Minor.

I'll send out Very Good Thoughts for you Tomorrow.

Did you tell the nurse or receptionist at the ER's check-in desk that you were having chest pains and difficulty breathing? If you did, and they made you wait for four hours...

OK, I'm dumbfounded. I don't even know what to say to that.

(Do y'all know how often I'm at loss for words? Never! Even if I'm not talking to another person, I'm talking to myself almost continually. I'm hardly ever not talking. Ever!)

That's just asking for a patient sitting in the waiting room to experience a severe health emergency beyond what they walked in with, or even die, specifically because they were expected to wait that long.

Oooohh... I'd hate to be on that hospital's legal staff.

And I'm not faulting you at all, not even a little. And you have no reason to be embarrassed, no matter how it all works out. I'd much rather see a person overreact to a health problem than see them underreact and risk the consequences. If you ask me, "better safe than sorry" doesn't belong to any scenario more than that one.

My consternation is entirely with the ER if you told them all the symptoms you listed in your original post, and they made you wait for that long. Grrrr. Just grrrr.

Now, I know you guys are going to tell me to go to the doctor for this, which I will. My appointment is on April 21....

That said, I've been coughing up tiny amounts of bright red blood the last couple of days and, seeing as how I had the same problem last year before I began vaping, I'm a little concerned.

Maybe it has nothing to do with vaping since I was coughing up blood before I even started, but COULD it be related to vaping? I'm also having mild chest pains and wheezing, and my friends tell me I look pretty pale. I've also had fatigue.

As convinced as I am (so far) that I do not have lung cancer (I AM only 30 years old, after all), I must admit that both my maternal grandmother and my mother passed away from lung cancer in their mid-50s.

So......what do you guys think this could be from? I doubt there are any doctors on this forum, but I wanted to see if anyone has any insight so I kind of know what I'm dealing with before I see the doctor.

Thanks!

Hun, I'm gonna be pretty frank with you. You said you know people on here will tell you to go to the doctor, and you are dang right. Coughing up tiny amounts of bright blood is NO minor thing, and I don't mean to scare you, but make SURE you don't miss that appointment you made.

Secondly, this being a vaper's forum and all, none of us are able to tell you what is wrong with you. I know you are just looking for answers, and possibly want help, but we can't give that to you. All we can do here is give you support.

You said you had already coughed up blood before you vaped a year ago. Didn't you ever go to the doctor for that? If not, you really should have, although I know that doesn't help now.

I would say vaping has nothing to do with this...although it could possibly be worsening your symptoms. Vaping is NEW.....we have NO IDEA how it harms our bodies yet. You would have to be pretty dang naive to think vaping is harmless....I can tell you right now, it isn't. It is almost positively LESS harmful than smoking cigarettes. No combustion, no tar, none of the other 500-1,000 harmful chemicals, etc. That still doesn't mean vaping is harmless.

The stuff we use for wicks, silica and cotton, themselves could potentially be harmful. They have a lot more inside of them then people realize, and this could possibly be irritants to the lungs.

Anyway, you answered your own questions hun. If you were coughing up blood before vaping, then it isn't vaping related. Vaping still might be worsening the symptoms though, so you REALLY , REALLY need to get to the doctor and find our what is going on.

I wish you the best.

The ER didn't make her wait....there were people in front of her.

Around here, it doesn't matter WHAT is going on with you, you WILL be sitting in the ER for at least 2-3 hours usually until you are seen.

When my son's mother was pregnant with him, she fell down and starting having TERRIBLE pains, and then blood spotting all at once. It was a big emergency, and I rushed her to the ER...and we STILL had to wait hours. Luckily, everything turned out to be okay.

You have to remember, the emergency room is just that.....for people with emergencies. Most people at the ER are having an emergency, whatever it may be. Unless they think you are going to die within MINUTES....you are going to have to wait. Not because they are mean poopoo heads, but because there simply isn't enough nurses, doctors, and staff to take everyone instantly.

Even if it feels embarrassing to you, we still would like to know how it turns out for you! :)
Good luck at your doc appointment. They must think its serious enough to get you in earlier rather than later. Keep us posted on your journey and we will be there for you no matter if it is minor or whatever it turns out to be.

A lot of fine folk here pulling for you!
