Did you tell the nurse or receptionist at the ER's check-in desk that you were having chest pains and difficulty breathing? If you did, and they made you wait for four hours...

OK, I'm dumbfounded. I don't even know what to say to that.

(Do y'all know how often I'm at loss for words? Never! Even if I'm not talking to another person, I'm talking to myself almost continually. I'm hardly ever not talking. Ever!)

That's just asking for a patient sitting in the waiting room to experience a severe health emergency beyond what they walked in with, or even die, specifically because they were expected to wait that long.

Oooohh... I'd hate to be on that hospital's legal staff.

And I'm not faulting you at all, not even a little. And you have no reason to be embarrassed, no matter how it all works out. I'd much rather see a person overreact to a health problem than see them underreact and risk the consequences. If you ask me, "better safe than sorry" doesn't belong to any scenario more than that one.

My consternation is entirely with the ER if you told them all the symptoms you listed in your original post, and they made you wait for that long. Grrrr. Just grrrr.

Well lets be realistic the symptoms don't sound good but they are not necessarily emergent. The wait and decision to go to a GP the next day probably saved OP a lot of hospital bills and since she is on here posting kind of makes my point.

Overall though hope everything turns out well and nothing that turns into a big deal. Best wishes to the OP.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am really sorry I didn't get a chance to get on here sooner.... it's been a crazy, crazy day. I did go to the ER last night, but after waiting for four hours and not being seen, I left. Called my doctor this morning and made an appointment to be seen tomorrow at 11:30. The nurse seemed to think it was something that needed to be looked at right away. Thanks so much for all of your concern and posts. I truly did not know whether I should go to the ER or not, because I have a tendency to blow things out of proportion when I'm sick. Thanks again to all and I will let you know what the doctor says. I swear, if this turns out to be an ulcer or something, I'm going to be really embarrassed.

Thanks for listening. :)

Thanks for posting sweetgypsea! Don't be embarrassed no matter what the outcome. Ulcer's or whatever is causing you to cough up blood are not good and we're glad you are seeking treatment. Nothing to be embarrassed about at all.

Best wishes and god bless!

The only question is why didnt you go see a doctor, the first time it started last year!

I never said I DIDN'T get medical attention when it happened the first time. In fact, I went to the ER then but the tests were inconclusive.

On a side note.... One of the reason I speak so highly of ECF was shown since the first post was made by sweetG.....
It amazes me how kind and compassionate in general most vapers are, Way to go everyone! Might not be doctors but you all offered tons of great advice and even comforting words..... Proud to be ECF, Done with the Love fest but just wanted to share!

Don't let anyone make you feel bad by telling you what you should have done, it makes no difference because it's in the past. We are all human and we have our reasons. But seriously, don't idle on this! Reoccurring symptoms are a big warning sign, your body is telling you something is up. The sooner you get this sorted out the less chance of it effecting the rest of your life in a monumental way. By this I mean be persistent until you find a solution. Take it from me, I kick myself every day for being so stubborn and now I get to live with the consequences. I hope you get this figured out soon. Take care sweetie.

UPDATE:

Just got back from the doctor. Apparently it's probably nothing to worry about, since the doctor said 95% of the time when someone coughs up blood it's not a big deal. He does, however, think I have anemia, which could explain the pale skin, weakness and exhaustion. However he really had no explanation for the chest pains and said that I am no longer wheezing... he did order a chest x-ray just in case, which I will have done on Monday. Also did lots of bloodwork. So I should hear everything by Wednesday at the latest I'm hoping. Thanks again for all your support!!!!! :D

Now, I know you guys are going to tell me to go to the doctor for this, which I will. My appointment is on April 21....

That said, I've been coughing up tiny amounts of bright red blood the last couple of days and, seeing as how I had the same problem last year before I began vaping, I'm a little concerned.

Maybe it has nothing to do with vaping since I was coughing up blood before I even started, but COULD it be related to vaping? I'm also having mild chest pains and wheezing, and my friends tell me I look pretty pale. I've also had fatigue.

As convinced as I am (so far) that I do not have lung cancer (I AM only 30 years old, after all), I must admit that both my maternal grandmother and my mother passed away from lung cancer in their mid-50s.

So......what do you guys think this could be from? I doubt there are any doctors on this forum, but I wanted to see if anyone has any insight so I kind of know what I'm dealing with before I see the doctor.

Thanks!

That was the first sign I had lung cancer. I went to the ER at which time the did a CT scan and put me in the hospital Sept. 9. The 10th I had them go in and check it finding 3 tumors on the left lung and a lymph node. It turned out to be Stage 3B and as of yesterdays Pet Scan the cancer is gone completely. It took 6 weeks of daily radiation and 6 chemo treatments. I went from 210 lbs down to 164 and I am now 181.

So basically what I'm saying is don't wait regardless of what you doctor says get another opinion quickly.

I would go back to the ER. I just got out of the hospital with a pulmonary embolism. I had all your symptoms except coughing up blood but that is a symptom of a blood clot. Not saying you have one but I would get it checked out. I had to have a CT scan to find the clots. Hope everything turns out good for you!

If you have insurance go to the hospital. Go to Barnes as they are one of the top hospitals in the country, my mother works there. Don't wait the two weeks, go sit in the waiting room, if it takes all day. If you go to your DR's he's just going to schedule tests at the hospital anyway, so nip it in the bud now.

Also, don't freak out if it's cancer. My aunt who's 68 just had lung cancer surgery and she's fully recovered after 6 months and leading the same quality of life she had as before. But don't wait!

Just thought I would throw this link up for you. https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/ida/
I have dealt with a few patients who present with similar symptoms. Good luck! Hopefully, your labs will indicate more information.

Glad to hear that you'll be promptly seen by a doctor, and that you did not do it in an ER (unless you are wealthy, I suppose.) Docs can usually squeeze in cases like that on short notice, and there are usually other urgent care places that would not sock you for $2,000+, as an ER probably would. Everyone running straight to the ER when worried is just not realistic in today's health system. That may not be a popular opinion, but it's true for many.

Sounds like bronchitis, to me, but that's nothing more than a guess. I hope it turns out to be fine.
