Counterfy Istick?

Just bought the istick 50w, went to the eleaf web site to authenticate and it says the number i entered doesn't exist. Bought it from my local guy. Not sure if it's a fake or not. But i noticed from pictures that the metal contact where you screw the tank into is silver and round. The contact on mine is gold in color and octagon shaped..Could this be a counterfeit unit? I also noticed my ohms keep bouncing from.3 to .4 , I'm using a .3 is this normal?

If the number didn't come up, it's a fake.
iStick 50's are relatively new and I sincerely doubt that Eleaf would have removed certification numbers from their servers.
It could be a blacklisted unit and the octagon shaped center pin sounds like a rebuild.
I'd take it back and demand a real unit.

Agreed. ELeaf hasn't changed anything since they've made, to the best of my knowledge, and a couple of the models on Fasttech don't look like authentic ISticks. See what you can do to get yourself an authentic unit.

As far as the resistance bouncing, could be a faulty connection anywhere from your atomizer to the 510 to the wiring inside the device.

Actually, because most devices "round up", detecting a .3 ohm coil as .4 isn't too far off. Additionally, on most of my devices, the resistance jumps a little bit. If a .33 ohm coil moves up to .35 due to coil gunk or whatever, the device may see that and round it up to .4. As long as the resistance isn't bouncing crazy all-over-the-place, it's not indicative of a short and is generally okay to vape on.

That said: I agree that the device may not be authentic, I've never heard of an octagonal 510 connection in a iStick 50W. Maybe they revised it? But I don't think so.

@Bantam59 I just checked Fasttech, they do sell "iStick Styled" 50w box mods. So there is a very good chance you have a clone iStick 50w.

Thanks, i just checked the pictures and the one fasttech shows has the octagon connector.
I'll be returning this unit for the real thing. Thanks for your help

Fasttech labels the real thing as "authentic". In fact I believe it's the first word in the item title.

Not necessarily. Eleaf has accidentaly produced duplicate numbers on devices in the past. Don't go just by that.

That said, it's certainly a fake if it has that octagon connector. Go back to your vendor, show him (he might've been taken in by someone, himself), and get a refund or exchange for the real deal.

Well i went back to the store i bought it from. Told him it was a fugazzy unit. He checked the authenticity codes on the 2 others he had and they too were fake. He's going to get me an authentic replacement. Not sure i believe him that he didn't know, but hey i guess it's possible, he blamed his distributor.

Yeah it's possible he ordered from a distributor that happened to be selling the FastTech clones, but if that's the case he should be really ...... because he'd be out a lot of money. The clones are about 50% cheaper than the real thing at retail. At wholesale that savings probably only increases.

Beat me to it. Yep. Retailers try to save a buck, just like us, and end up looking for the best deal, usually not with the manufacturer. Sometimes, an unscrupulous distributor takes advantage of this and sells something as authentic when it in fact anything but. If his distributor is in China and refuses to do anything about it, he might just be up that bad, bad creek and have to sell these, advertised as clones and priced accordingly... because now, he knows definitively that they are.

Lots of times, there's nothing wrong with a clone, unless you pay an authentic price for it.

That's ok. I spoke to the guy he's going to replace it with an authentic istick he didn't give me any problems. The real istick has a spring loaded contact. That octagon contract does not, so when i change tanks i have to use a pin a lift the contact up so it makes a connection.

I noticed that fasttech lists items as either Authentic or Style. ie: Authentic eleaf istick. Or
Eleaf istick style.
So they do let you know what your buying.. Supposedly.

What @Bantam59 said, if it is Authentic that is what it is described as, Styled is clone. I usually order from myvaporstore - always excellent service/speedy shipping - but if I want some good clones I'll go to 101vape or eciggity...those 2 excellent service/ship fast as well.

@Bantam59 yeah a real iStick 50w would have a spring loaded 510, also I noticed on the Fasttech clones they had no writing on them at all and some of the reviews were not good
