Just like PIF there will always be people who try to take advantage. It's crap like that, that's gonna cause a fight at the CVS. I try to avoid them because on my very first coupon trip I went in there and tried to use internet coupons. They told me they don't take printed coupons. I can only assume that's because someone like your neighbor took advantage, because that's not corporate policy. One of these days I'll take SIL in with me so she can argue with them about it. I just don't know the rules well enough to do it myself. I'm still a newb to this coupon thing.

Nate the coupon guy lives down the road from me - he's completely unethical - and several mommy's from my local site went to the last taping they did with him and called Kroger out of accepting "bad" coupons from him for the show. He used coupons for certain "flavors" for the wrong stuff - and Kroger's forced them through because of the cameras. Like buy a 16oz blank an instead he bought the 6oz blank. He also sells stuff out of his garage. His one neighbor just filed a complaint with their city for doing business out of the home without a license.

I HATE that show.

TLC made him out to e the hero..edited anyone else's donations, just kept his on, they forgot to mention his $10K garage sales..the ones he brags about on his site! Poor Amanda, they made her look horrible. And what about the J'aime fiasco?

In the end, I'm afraid that show will be the end of it for many of us..

I'm always a day late and a dollar short. I watched the show once and just don't get it. Where do people get all these coupons? I don't see them in my paper. Every time I do see a coupon, I go in the store to use it and I find a different brand cheaper. It's not like I don't want free or cheap stuff I just don't get how they go about getting it I guess.

I still don't understand why these people buy so much stuff or buy stuff they don't need. Like cat food and they don't have a cat. Aren't they worried about bugs or roaches? To buy stuff you don't need or use just seems like a step away from A&E hoarders.

I am short on time so I have to be brief..(ecf always makes me late!)

I supply 14 different people with my stockpile...then what I have an abundance of after that, I have 3 garage sales in the summer..I have email lists of people who are regulars that come to my sales. Last sale I had (early April) I only had 6 items that went out of date that I had to throw away, nothing goes to waste! My college aged children's friends love coming over & shopping (for free) my basement for whatever they need!

I think that's great and you've turned it into a hobby! I go to garage sales, but neve had one. Maybe I will!

I'm a little OCD. Make that a lot OCD. I could never ever have that many food products or cardboard around. I'm a hefty bag cleaning machine. My husband hides the newspaper or magazines so I don't throw them away. I think you'd have to cart me away if I opened the closet and saw 1,000 boxes of cat food. I don't have babies or little kids though. Just hubby & I and my son's away at school.

the only way to actually use coupons to your advantage is to match a coupon to a sale price.

Because I ONLY have a walmart and a local owned store- I have to watch what I buy. YES, I can get 1.00 off the tylonol brand of pills, if I buy the 500 ct for 9.99 I get them for 8.99 BUT walmart has equate brand for 7.99 to start with. SO- I would buy the equate brand. UNLESS I can find a store that is selling the tylonal 500 count for 7.99 on special that week- I can price match at walmart AND use my coupon, therefor I am actually getting walmart 9.99 brand name tylonal for 6.99 - OR 3.00 off the listed price and still a dollar less then the store brand.

DId that make sense??

You have to match sales and coupons- JUSt using coupons when that is NOT yoru regular brand OR you are a 'bargain' shopper to start with will NOT save you money, UNLESS its the cheaper brand to start with or on sale.

Coupon sources online: Most grocery stores will take these, as long as they are printed clearly and you can read the bar code
You will have to d/l and install a small program that prints the coupons but it's safe. (No spyware or anything)

http://www.smartsource.com
Coupons.com

Major Food Companies: Sign up for their mailing lists, they send out coupons. If you have a favorite brand of something, sign up on the brand page too, (not just the corporation page) Like General Mills owns Betty Crocker, several other brands.

General Mills: Coupons and promotions
Great Recipes, Dinner Ideas and Quick & Easy Meals from Kraft Foods
Pepsi
P&G Everyday Solutions - Samples & Coupons, Articles & Tips, Tools, New Product Information
Login or Register | Unilever USA
Dole | Dole Homepage
Nestlé USA | Home Page - Good Food, Good Life

Also, check your local papers website, ours has the coupons available free. And, check the websites for the stores you shop at, they often have coupons there too. Kroger, cub, etc.

I don't even buy the paper anymore. I find almost all coupons in the paper are available online somewhere.

I shop the sales and use the coupons. Between the two, I always save money! Leaves me much money to buy pretty, shiny things!

Enjoy!

I really believe in PIF in real life, so I spend time clipping coupons and finding sales just to take boxes of necessities to Mercy Triune. I just have to tell you about Mercy Triune. I'm not a Christian but I am totally inspired by these people. It's a homeless church but they welcome anyone. After church services they have a meal or you can just show up for the meal but it doesn't feel like a soup kitchen. It feels like a community potluck. Anyone in the community can drop off their laundry and pick it up clean the next day or you can drop in and do your laundry. They have a "store" of necessities, that you can "shop" in. The "grocery store" is open on Weds. They have a bicycle repair shop. They offer weddings for the working poor/homeless with everything donated.

And for those looking for coupon inserts, check with you local library. The library that I worked at threw away the sales/coupon inserts. The library that Heather works at clips them and puts them in a old breadbox for the patrons to pick out what they want. One of the other branch librarians hosts a bi-monthly coupon trading group and a "how to coupon class".

I HATE that show.

Glad his neighbor complained. That is just wrong.

What deals are you guys working this week?

What stores do you shop at?

I mostly shop at Giant Eagle..will do Wags, CVS, WM if overage is involved (been pounding on the similac), Target..

I have just started the whole coupon thing. I used to do it when I was a military wife, but now that I am on a fixed income I feel I need to start again. It was getting too expensive. Luckily, I live in an area with quite a few stores. I shop at Walgreen's, CVS, Walmart, Save a lot, Kroger (hate that my store only doubles to 0.50), Meijer, Foodtown

I was reading this as I was watchin Extreme Couponers (this is what brought me to the link.. I thought "what a coincidence!!") and your pal Nate is on

I am thinking couponing might not be a bad idea, but the people on this show make it looks so damned complicated. I love the people who buy diapers, just because, and they have no kids. 1oo containers of cleaning wipes and 200 bars of soap.. really? I wouldn't have the room for this stuff. I see them with their 1,000 rolls of toilet paper, but they break their back to go get 20 more rolls.. I guess I just don't understand.. I can't see spending $2 on something that my family doesn't use, even if it's dirt cheap, just to save the money
