Craving traditional cigs while drinking... HELP!

This is day 2 for me on PV. My experience has been amazing so far. As a traditional cig smoker, I got down to the point of only smoking when drinking or seriously stressed. So maybe 2 days a week at the most, (I called it binge smoking). Since I got my ecig, I notice I've been vaping waaay more often than I ever smoked. But like I told my DH, when he got his tobacco pipe he spent a week outside chain smoking... I'm playing with my new toy. And it's been awesome!

But now we're having some Friday night beers. And suddenly the urge to smoke a traditional cig is killing me! I keep taking drags off my ecig, (I'm chain vaping), but the desire to break down and smoke a traditional cig is crazy STRONG. Any tips, tricks, or experience with this?

My last day to traditionally smoke was 11-7, I'd really hate to go back to square one. :(

Thanks, ~missy~

Personally I don't think it's a big deal if you cheat while vaping, especially when you are starting out. When I first started vaping I vaped and smoked the first week, but I was smoking like 25% of what I was before. Then I smoked my last pack when I was running out of juices while I was waiting for new juice to come in.

Also a lot of others 'cheated' while quitting. A lot also found that they hated the taste of smokes, and that pretty much sealed it for them.

I would say just don't beat yourself up if you decide to have a smoke. maybe have a smoke, then vape for awhile, then have another smoke...don't chain smoke just because you are drinking. Eventually you won't need that smoke, because you will be used to vaping and drinking.

Anyways, good luck with what ever you decide to do :)

agreed, but I beat this problem by finding some harshy, rough, smoky juice, putting it into a lower resistance clearo for a warmer smoke so I could feel it like i did chaining cigs when I was out drinking, being able to get that hot rough hit stopped me from wanting the cig.

Vape harder. Vape more. It's that simple really.
Personally I can say first hand that bumping your flavors up to something with a higher nic value will def. help this. Though it might not be the best tasting since it's stronger and you're not used to it - mix 'lighter' flavors with high nic. Meaning don't use flavors to mix with that are strong to you personally, mix with lighter flavors - higher nic. and again - vape more while you're out.

That should help you out a lot!

Hi Missy,
Being on day 2 you are still detoxing from cigarettes. You may need a higher nicotine strength in your juice. Some folks will say just have a cigarette. Depends what kind of person you are. I'm not the kind of person that can just have one cigarette, I will end up having several - so I've stayed off them since I've been vaping.
You may need some 24 mg nic juice if you don't have any.

Drinking and especially stress are both triggers for smoking. It is a natural feeling to want one since you have been indulging yourself in that for however long you smoked... Try and ride it out, but do what you gotta do. Get back to vaping when you can! It takes time, effort and a little luck to stay off the stinkies...

Also, not sure what level nicotine is in your juice. Especially during the start, you might want to keep some "high octane" e-juice around just for these strong desire times...

You guys are wonderful, thanks for the tips!

I have 16mg nic strength in 5 5ml sample bottles. I should have gotten higher!!! I even thought about it at the store, but since I was unsure about my tastes, I just went all 16. I still have 6 left in a pack of Camels. I'll hang on to them, but I'm gonna vape the s#!* out of my PV. It helps. I just miss that flavor. On that note, I do notice I like the RY4 flavor more now than I did yesterday... it's way more of a bold, throaty hit.

I need to understand this is a process. Old habits die hard. It was not uncommon for me to not smoke all week, then smoke a whole pack in a few hours drinking on the wkend. This will take time. But the desire to kick traditional cigs is there, and I should just keep calm, vape on, and not kick myself in the ... if I go 2 steps fwd, 1 back the first friggin week.

lol I hated ry4 the very first time now I like it a lot the longer you vape the more you will notice cigs start to taste worse and worse, and ya def go higher on the nic to start bet that helps a lot, GOOD LUCK.

I can share with you that I was in the same boat 2 1/2 years ago when I quit analogs. I'd vape and still have a desire to smoke and about 2 weeks into my "quit" I had a cigarette and never felt so sick. It wasn't the guilt of having one or feeling I wasted two weeks and was back to square one - it was like a fog came back over me, I felt tired, my mouth felt dirty and dry. It just sucked. I knew right then that for two weeks I was vaping that I had never felt better and that one cigarette brought the crap back. I didn't have another analog again after that. If you need, certainly bump up the nicotine which is what I did as well. I'm down to 12 mg now but really have no intention of quitting vaping. C'mon, I'm vaping something that tastes like a girl scout thin mint...who'd quit that?
We all get there in our own way, though, so stick with it whatever you decide. Good luck!

Word of warning, If you bump up the nic content and chain vape whilst drinking you can get a worse hangover than normal as alcohol and vaping can be really dehydrating. I used to chain vape first off when drinking chasing that cig type nic hit and felt awful the next day. since then I learned when drinking I can have a cig or 2 without then feeling like rushing out and buying a pack of baccy the next day. I much prefer vapeing to anologes and can take or leave them now which after 25 yrs of smoking is kinda weeird. just be kind to yourself and go with the flow, if you want to quit you will. :toast:

I totally understand. About 3 months back we were at the beach, rented a beach house with some friends. We were BBQin, drinking some brews and my friends were smoking away. No matter how much I chain vaped - i needed a smoke. Well - I bummed a couple of menthols off my friend (I used to smoke regular marlboro lights - no menthols) - well it stopped my craving. Havent smoked one since. Tmrw I will be back with the same buds, BBQing and drinking - if I really feel like smoking a couple - I will. I think that is ok - as long as I dont buy a pack. That is what keeps me going on about 6 months..............my 2cents.......

Stick with it! I still get a sudden urge once and a while. Beer definitely doesn't help! I swore never to buy another pack again, and so far, I've stuck to it.

Are you inhaling when you vape? Bigger hits get me through those times, Sunday will be 3 weeks for me. Currently using 24mg and averaged about 35/day.

When I really need a big hit I inhale directly to lungs or pull into mouth, inhale some, blow out through nose while continuing to pull, repeat about 3 - 4 times. I found I can do it from mouth to nose directly but that is a much harsher feeling on the sinuses.

Goodluck missy. Like most folks here had said, don't stress about it. If you need a cig then have one. In my case, I go through quite a lot of liquid whenever I go out. I have 4 tanks that I carry with me with diff flavors so I'm covered. I vape hard when alcohol is in the mix. I drink lots of water before bed to avoid massive hangover. Haven't smoked for almost 7 weeks and staying stronger. Vape hard when u crave. If you must smoke, have a cig. Enjoy. :)

I didn't have cravings for about 6 weeks after stopping analogues 100% (I was still at 2-5 a day for about a year while vaping). I've read some people like to have one cart/tank/atty that just has a really strong tobacco with a super high nic level that they take with for "drinking nights" where that craving hits hard, but normally use much lower nic juice outside that situation. I found that a similar approach works for me too.
