How do you guys use the prepaid mastercard's.
I got one as a gift one time but couldn't figure out how to use it online b/c there were no numbers on the front of the card. I know stores ran it as credit. I don't think there was an expiration date either. Does the card you buy just say "mastercard" or "visa" on it? And what about the 3-digit code on the back of the card? I don't think that exists on the prepaid ones? Is there only certain sites that you can use prepaid ones on? Can you guys really fill out all the payment info with these store bought cards? ( exp date, 3-digit code, all the numbers on the front)

There are cards with numbers on the front.. but I cannot remember why.. All of the prepaid MC/Visa I've seen have the three digit CCV on the back.... best one is at wal-mart.. get the blue one .. It's $3

Just be mindful of all of the horrible fees on prepaid cards.. read the agreement!!! They even have the guts to charge a $3/mo fee!!! So I just get a new one any time I want to load and use a prepaid, for the same $3... because, why not, I get a fresh 30 days every time that way

But really prepaids are a quick dirty EXPENSIVE shortcut to using CCs .. should be a last resort!!

Thanks THE, I'll go to Walmart and look at the blue ones.

Hey, no problem... You can see it on the main page, here
https://www.walmartmoneycard.com/walmart/homepage.aspx
Make sure you keep your receipt when you load it, or you will lose the money.. and then soon as you get home, you can activate it online and begin using it. Might want to make sure that the e-mail account you use has a good strong password on it, just to be safe.

Hey I am back. Sorry to have been away so long but I am chin deep in school and overwhelmed. My husband brought me a gift mastercard from Safeway. It cost 5 bucks, he put a 100 on it and it did have a 12 digit number like a real card, and a 3 digit security code too. I laid out a quick 3 stop shopping plan and bought all my stuff in one swoop, using up the 97% card. If someone hacks my disposable card they will get three bucks and bad karma and I won't have to go through a hour of phone calls and frustration. Ha!

While this issue might not solely fall on the suppliers, many are new to owning a business. I've seen some sites thats just plain make me shudder.

Before ordering from any vendor online, ecig or not, ask if they are PCI compliant. Many vendors don't even know what PCI compliance is. It's a hassle to setup and pricey for start ups. Some vendors choose to skip this for the sake of convenience. If the vendor states they are compliant, ask them to prove it. A good supplier will have no problem with this. It's a fair question.

Next be sure at the very least they have an SSL certificate installed. While the "HTTPS" is a good sign that the connection is secure it doesn't mean the vendor has actually purchased or setup a security certificate. Here is a neat site that will allow you to check if a vendors SSL is setup:

Is my site safe? Check your SSL certificate!

This is your personal information, demand steps are taken to protect your security.

As for personal steps, while a virus scanner is great, it can only detect known threats. Installing a firewall is extremely important. While initial Firewall training can be a hassle for the first few days it's well worth it. I suggest taking a look at Comodo Firewall. It's free.

Be sure not to store your password within your browser. Change your passwords every 90-120 days. Stay away from shady websites and "add on" toolbars.

WOW Chris I don't do any of the steps you mentioned above.
I don't even check my statement ( I know that's bad).
I'm glad the Walmart credit card is available for lazy people like myself.
I emptied the card on 2 sites today. May have to buy another one next week but for $3 I am buying peace of mind. (and i can continue to be a lazy shopper).

So once again I have had my credit card #, and address and name stolen. I know, I know....I said after it happened last time I was going to go buy a disposable, loadable card but I didn't get around to it before I ran out of my fav juice. I convinced myself it was malware on my computer, did a full virus scan before shopping and then ordered my juice. Within a few days I find 5 charges on my card. What The Heck??? Why?????? Seriously this is messed up. I had to spend a hour making phone calls and I seriously have NO TIME to spend on this. I have to fill out fraud paperwork again.

Now what am I going to do? I don't trust the two vendor sites I ordered from with my brand spanking new credit card which makes me sad because I loved the juice. So lame.

Tip from an old IT hand (been doin' this stuff since the 70's):

Anti-Virus software doesn't always catch everything on a computer. Go to Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com (Very safe site)!

1. Download, install & update the following software:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46
Ad-Aware Free Internet Security 8.3.3

Run Full Scans with BOTH programs and remove anything they find.

2. The best 'free' AV program you can find, IMHO is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 10.0.1136 (available from the same site).

3. Don't use IE (Internet Explorer). Download and use Mozilla Firefox as your browser (Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client). I would then install the 'extensions' AdBlock Plus and No-Script for added safety.

4. Finally, install SpywareBlaster 4.4 (again, found at Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com), use with Manual update, and mark your calendar to update the program definitions and 'enable all protection' once a month.

This will help keeping your computer as clean as it can possibly be; but unfortunately, will not help with keeping the 'vendors' computers clean (unless they read this post ;-)

I use the software you're talking about.. especially MBAM .. I prefer avast over avg but I've heard nothing but praise for avg.. Another one you might want to check out is Super Anti Spyware .. it's pretty good

One thing to keep in mind is not to have several active scanners going..... That will slow a machine all the way down to a crawl.

I just got hit again for the second time in 2 or 3 months. Both time was right after ordering from one ecig vendor. HMMMMMMM strange huh? This time it wasnt for $2 instead it was for $470 verizon wireless bill. Now correct me if I am wrong but that just made it very easy to figure out who the person is. Authoritys will contact verizon to see who's account got paid with my card and bingo the perp is caught. Lets see how this pans out.

Oh and AVG SUCKS. If you want a free AV then Avira is the best.

If someone is stupid enough to be using your card without holding onto the info for some time, first.. and then did that a second time.... that's just unheard of idiocy.. Sounds like someone who is NOT supposed to have the info, has it. And even then, that's stupid.

And for the love of god who would be stupid enough to pay THEIR OWN CELL BILL that way?!

What is going on, here?!!

It would be nice if you would name the vendor you had the problem with or what companies the fraudulent charges were from. Even though it most likely is NOT the vendor, how about giving other members a heads up instead of just complaining!!!

I will pm people with the info. Dont want to harm somebodys business. This is a card processing issue I am pretty sure of and not the business owners fault.
