Just to formally ask - and this seems the place - what about those of us that do not have the option of a dedicated freezer to store nic? I live in an RV. Space is limited but I do have a pantry that I am storing flavors/DIY and a small 120ml of 100mg nic in at the moment. I want to buy larger quantities of nic but again, I have only this "cool dark" place to store in. I'm not very concerned with the nic degrading a bit and safety is no issue as well. So I guess my question is - will the nic be ok if left under these conditions? The only thing I do know is the 120ml nic has darkened since last Sept when I bought it but using it in my base - I can tell no difference in taste. It's in PG solution. If I am to keep my nic stored in this way, would I benefit by using VG nic instead of PG nic?
Probably, and the thicker the better. But its hard to say since there is little multi-year data on room temp storage. I think Danny is right, depending on ambient temps, you could get several months without noticing a difference, and a bit of oxidation may or may not be a problem for you. I get months of almost no change in glass.
There are vacuum-sealed containers that could be used, depending on your space limitations, to hold glass bottles. There are also oxygen scavenging packets, similar to drying packets in vitamin jars, that could be tossed in before sealing. I was considering them when I first came up with the whole glass/freezer thing 6 years ago. Not needed if you freeze.
Something like this:
Clear Weathertight Trunk
O-Busters® Oxygen Absorbers - AGM Container
I don't know how long the nic will last, and you have to think about the volume of the container to decide how much O2 absorption you need. But if you put glass bottle in this, and use these packets, you should be able to extend the time considerably. I do not know how long, or how well, you'll have to dig around to get that info. I doubt anyone is doing this with nic currently, or if they are, have long-term data.
