Soz I thought you wanted to see how far the base of the Cyclone fits into the juice cup. You can see a picture with the top on in post 31 and also in my avatar.
No...I have a Cyclone so I know how far down it sits. I was wondering if you had to do anything in particular to get the AFC cap to sit firm...such as not screw your atty down as far.
Moot point though...I have an untumbled raw just screaming for turbocad6's modification. I believe that's my weekend project.
Thanks Turbocad,
I had not even thought of that. I am following your other thread with great interest. I must admit I have not found any difference in vape quality by having the AFC slightly higher. I will try a 510 to 510 adaptor plus a duel coil in both variations of cap height.
I think it looks fugly with a 510 to 510 and I would have to give some serious thought to trimming the top of the juice cup as presumably an RM2 would look odd with the milled bottom. I will have to ask Rob if he sells an un-milled version of the RM2.
Cheers
So I now have 3 Reo compatible RBA's - Cyclone, eBaron, and and RM2. The cyclone is kicking the other two.
Not sure exactly why but I suspect the very long silica is part of it. The silica wraps around the posts and is at least 3-4 times the length of the RM2. I set it up with 32g kanthal and 2.5mm silica (came in at 1.5 ohms) and it is hitting as hard as a genesis with just as much flavor. Keeps blowing my mind. I can go 5-10 hits without squonking.
The eBaron is ok. I need to get the coil master and at this point I am still going at 2.0 ohms and I think it will be better with a lower ohm coil. It is large compared to the RM2 and the Cyclone.
The RM2 is probably in the middle. This actually surprises me given all the positive comments here so I may not have it setup right yet. I have had to re-coil it a couple times just to get it going right. The first coil started at 1.4 ohms when I set it up but shortly after using jumped up to 2.7 (???). I used 32g kanthal and 2.0mm silica with 4 wraps so it should not have been that high. The second coil kept giving me dry hits so I had to tweak it around so it would pull the liquid up better. I do have the coil aligned with the hole in the bottom. Now it is better but not as strong as the Cyclone. I have to squonk the RM2 every hit or two to keep it from giving me dry hits, I'd like to make the silica longer if I can figure out a way. I've done dozens of coils before without problems so I think it must be the way I have it setup. Still its a really good rba after tweaking.
I'm wanting another Cyclone really bad.
you want to be able to see your coils right at the air inlets, if the top cap isn't sitting all the way down then the coils will be too low and this can kill the vape quality, vape is best with the coils right at the air inlets so you'll at least need to raise them if the cap don't go all the way down. the cyclone is cool cause you can open the airways fully to easily check coil alignment

ha, evil robot mod?
so now I have a question for those with cyclones, I assume most of you guys bought them specifically set up as bottom feeders so I'm guessing the post comes pre drilled. I've seen a few mentions here and there that the feed hole is "up higher on the post" so it doesn't drain back as well as an rm2, is this true? how high does the factory feed hole sit? I got my cyclone as a top feeder and drilled the firing pin myself converting it to bottom feed and I made my feed hole right at the deck level, the hole I did even extends slightly into the base of the insulator so it's at the lowest point of the base and mine feeds and drains back just as well as the rm2. I would really like to see if the factory feed hole is higher, might pick up another cyclone some day and want to know if a factory bottom feed cyclone is actually feeding above the base and how much above? anyone have any pictures of the feed hole in the stock bf cyclone?
Other way round for me, can't use plated, attys, make me unwell, so all I use is a cyclone, find them perfect, & easy to coilI've been thinking about the difference between the RM2 and Cyclone. I'm not sure I can establish that there is a difference in the vape quality. I would have to have both side by side, with the same resistance and coil configuration, and with the same e-liquid.
Things I can compare:
The RM2 is easier to build - bigger and screws are easier to work with
The Cyclone allows for a longer wick so they hold more and can hit more between re-wetting.
They both feed well and the drain back excess to the bottle
Both have side air holes. It is easier to get the the RM2's to line up with the coil, but the Cyclone is not much more difficult.
I prefer the Cyclone's pull cap to the RM2 screw cap. Always a pain to get the RM2 off my Reo without first removing the cap.
The Cyclone is full Stainless vs chrome plated brass.
The RM2 has a ceramic base, not sure if that changes the vape or not since the shape of the bases are the same (both convex to push excess to the center to drain).
The Cyclone costs about 1.5 times what the RM2 costs.
I think the vape is better on the Cyclone but someone else may like the vape with an RM2 better. I don't plan on replacing any of my RM2s with Cyclones.
