Not until your last few posts have you made it clear that you or Special-K were talking about people lying to themselves.

The implication had been, up to that point, that people here were lying to everyone else. (not an implication at all in Special-K's case - it was a downright accusation)
To that I take offense.....I did not lie, to myself or anyone.

No harm no foul...I have not been personally offended by you. But if you meant people lying to themselves, why not make that undeniably clear from the start? This is the internet after all, and subtle nuance is not always apparent in the typed word.

And Special-K needs to stop thinking he is better,smarter, more correct than everyone else simply because he allegedly has a Masters in Psych. Education does not=intelligence.

It doesn't matter if you lie to me or if you lie to yourself, we are all here for the same reason, but I say this without omission

where the "lie" comes in.. is you currently feel safe and snug in your coccoon of non-analog serinity.. that serenity is a lie.. as a "recovering" alcoholic you KNOW this... at which point you shouldn't be lying to yourself.. that big bad analog monster is waiting just on the other side of that coccoon for you to open up the door forgetting he's there... I know with complete certainty that I am addicted to nicotine. Am I addicted to cigarettes? I don't think so. I have gone months at a time without by switching to a pipe. I relate this experience with that one. As long as I'm getting my nicotine, I have no jones. If I had no alternative would I smoke a cigarette? Hell, I'd eat a cigarette. Is it my preference? No. Heck, it wasn't before vaping came along. I've always preferred a pipe, but smoked cigarettes because they were more convenient.

The problem I have with K's statements (aside from the self-importance and lack of interpersonal skills) (oh yeah, I can be an .......) is that he all but states that e-cigs can not be satisfying to anyone because they are not satisfying to him, and that anyone who disagrees is lying. He wasn't talking about denying an addiction as you are. Maybe he joined your bandwagon later as you were the only 'ally' he had.

And I agree... anyone denying that an addiction is present is looking through rose-colored glasses. You can control it, you can even supress it, but you can never be rid of it.

as stated.. with all the points.. when i first picked up my very first cheapass POS ecig... i thought all those very same things

mayhaps this helps..

my reasons for wanting the ecig to work to help me quit smoking...

1) i'm asthmatic... i'm tired of waking up in the morning and taking 6 hours to get a decent breath through the coughing
2) i've hated the smell and taste of cigarettes from day one.. but that beastie grabbed me by my manhood and wont let go
3) i have two sons... 1 is 4.. the other 5.. my 5 yr old is ALSO asthmatic... i REALLY need to stop blowing lethal airway blocking chemicals in his direction
4) i think ecigs are MUCH cooler then analogs... altho i thought that of tattoos also until they became so popular that peoples grandmothers are now getting them

I'm glad you could hold it together enough to express these thoughts. K's self importance and lack of interpersonal skills are truly horrifying. And K, don't tell me to toughen up and take it like a man or some such bull****. This is the real world...manners exist for a reason. When you don't use them, people hate you. Nice going....

K didn't so much as jump on my bandwagon as much as simply realize he was getting amped up.. and probably becoming offensive..

this is not to say that he cares of he offends.. far from it.. but he met me in the middle.. or at least tried to..

his original posting on this i took as aimed MUCH more to longer term vapers.. but upon rereading it.. he probably also meant short termers who act like they know...

i never meant to make it look like i fully agreed with him.. but more that i understood where he was coming from and what he meant... and i did agree on a fundamental level

i dont have to agree with the war in iraq to agree that our troops need to kick some everloving ... so they can come home kinda thing..

i'm a bit of a radical thinker... my reasoning is different than most peoples but it IS sound.. and i agree.. if you don't know me.. you're probably not going to get some of the things i say the way they were meant.. hell... im on my way to divorceville cuz my own wife of 8 years STILL doesn't get it..

if i wanted... i could quote off my iq and cite "higher thinkers" to back it up and just decide everyone is too stupid for my way of thinking but that's not me... again.. i understand.. but i disagree (and btw.. don't take that as a cheap shot at K.. that's NOT what i meant).. as the "intelligent radical thinker" i feel it's more my job to understand the people that don't understand me so we can meet in the middle and realize we have more in common than less

although i LOVE the gear (got my leather pants.. harley vest.. boots.. dorags.. leather gloves.. so on) and i do somewhat fit the bill in personality.. i'm not a rider.. i'm a ROCKER!.. used to do the club scene in the 80's and such.. hung out with all the coolest metal bands in town.. (which included wonderful bands like saigon kick.. marylin manson.. genitorturers.. jack off jill.. collapsing lungs.. etc) and although i turned 40 last saturday.. my rocker roots make me feel 18.. ok.. 21.. i still need to get into the clubs now and then.. hehehehehe

btw... anecdotal..
i am actually a RARE breed when it comes to alcohol... i am what i jokingly refer to as a "recovered" alcoholic... bear with me here

before you quote me the aa book.. as i stated earlier i understand the nature of addiction.. i'm relating this story to point out that addiction CAN be controlled...but you gotta REALLY tough it out and have a LOT of faith in yourself.. not substitutes... (btw.. not downing the giving oneself over to a higher power.. i'm meaning the faith in ones self must be infinite ALSO)

years and years ago... i became an alcoholic... i was all of 18 and drinking like mad... i'd wake up in the morning and feel horrible.. with my waking words being " i WILL not drink today"... you can guess how that turned out... by 3pm i was shnockered.. and still going.. anyways..

i eventually put myself in a rehab of sorts.. it was a rehab program in covenant house... which is technically a runaways shelter..

they HATED me there... they refused to accept that i just wanted AWAY from the alcohol to prove to myself that i COULD choose to not drink.. after two weeks they booted me..

that very day i was accosted by some friends bearing scotch.... my FAVORITE alcohol to this very day.. i told them no thanks... and without reservation drank a pepsi and hung with them till they got drunk and stumbled off looking for more partytime..

i still choose not to drink at many more turns than i choose TO drink..

im not claiming i truly beat the beast... i just learned to keep him at bay..

the point being.. with FULL understanding of the nature of the beast of addiction... the beast CAN be kept at distance.. but you REALLY need to keep your guard up at all times

none of it changes that i AM still an alcoholic.. i was just LUCKY enough to find my own way

I can relate. I quit drinking cold turkey. Changed my friends (I found that most were more 'drinking buddies' anyway... true friends were supportive of my quitting) and my outlook. I've never been a religious person, which is why AA didn't do it for me. My willpower got me to where I am now.

I'm a rider and a rocker. Good thing, my clothes pulled double duty I'm 42 in May. Been a drummer since age 7, bassist since 19. I've seen my share of drinking until the sun was rising the next morning and beyond. Been a 'bike enthusiast' since I was 17. That also led to drinking until the sun was rising and beyond.

I don't actively play in a band now, although my 19 year old son and I have been trying to get a trio off the ground. I DJ in a bar on the weekends. I've been asked by the very few 'regulars' who know I'm a recovering alcoholic if working there is tough on me. I think it's quite the opposite... seeing the drunken fools is a tough reminder of the person I used to be, and all the confirmation I need that it's not a road I want to go down again.

...But, in order to quit them in 2007, I had to find something to hate...

Maybe I'm a bit of a weirdo, but I found that hate wasn't needed for me to stay off my lovely Camel Turkish Gold (oh my, just saying the name makes me want one).

I used a two point switch plan:

1) Stop buying cigs 3 days before my M401 kit/smoking liquid was to arrive. I was a pack-a-day smoker so this made me ration, then run out of analogs the day before my package arrived. My first puff of an electronic cigarette was a comparable heaven. This is called "physiological conditioning" IIRC. Thus electronic cigarettes have been chemically associated in my mind with salvation & rescue.

2) Number one was just the crutch. Now after the first week sans analog I must find one major positive thing that electronic cigarettes allow me to do that was not possible with analogs:

*I can walk around all day and never feel out of breath*

Nice, but not there yet.

*My pets stopped sneezing all the time and seem happier*

Getting warmer.

*I now last at least twice as long in the sack with the missus*

BINGO!

So now, every time I think of smoking an analog cig I just gaze over at my lovely wife. Happy glowing partner, or glowing partner of weezing? The choice then becomes quite easy.

But with all things in life, YMMV.

the misspelling is from the mel brooks movie "history of the world: part one"... a line in the song has one monk ask the other why they call the inquisitioner taukimada.. the answer is "cuz you can't taukimada anything"

as to the drinking... i wont lie.. the beast still grabs me... but i do the dance with him instead of letting him bend me over the table... scary that even WHILE drinking i'm afraid of the beast enough to keep a distance..

i LOVE watching drunk idiots make fools of themselves.. i think that's why i love karaoke so much.. and boy it helps that i can actually sing!!

After reading all the 117 posts, I came to the conclusion that both analogs and PV's make one's testosterone levels go up.

An opinion is an opinion. That's it. If we all thought alike the world would be so boring.

And, we all fondly remember our 1st love, be it beer/wine/whiskey in the booze department or Salems/Kool/Clove in the analog department...I think K (with the pretty 1930's girl avatar) is right in a lot of respects, because it was analogs/pipes that were our 1st love.

None of us are perfect, progress is the best any one of us can hope for, perfection is for the next world when we pass-on...

Does a banner mean so much that 1 analog makes you lose your date? I know in AA if you get tanked it does, but in AA there is no stopping at 1 drink... it's sloshed to oblivion on the first fall. This case with analogs, there appears to be a lee-way where in one could have just 1 or 2 and get back on track... So, if people fudge a tad... Does it matter? Does it even count? None of us are perfect. We only need to meet our own standards and act with compassion toward our fellow suffering man.

Ohh yeah, put me on the spot.

Truth is, she's one of my favorite regulars. Could just be that she's a very nice person, but yes she can sing. I also like that she picks songs that tend to surprise an unsuspecting audience.
