Day 4 of vaping. Anxious, edgy. Does anyone know how to tell how many mg I was smoking before?

Hi guys,

As I mentioned I am on Day 4 of vaping. I've been having nightmares and feeling super edgy... way worse than I did when I was on the patch. I bought a DuMaurier flavoured jiuce with 12 mg of nicotine and am wondering if I am getting more nic than I am used to? I usually smoked Canadian Classics... 1.3 - 2.8 mg of nicotine. I'd smoke about half a smoke every hour, maybe a little less.. Full smokes while driving etc.

I didn't crave analogues at all, but after the third straight day of being ridiculously anxious I smoked a couple regular smokes and calmed right down. The first night I was SO completely sick to my stomach I thought I would die. While vaping, I'd have 2-3 drags every hour.

Any tips on what I should try? This current juice is 80/20 PG/VG. Does anyone know where to get lower doses of nicotine in Canada?

Thanks for helping out a newb.

It sounds to me like withdrawals, honestly. You may not have gotten a high enough Nic level, or not be vaping enough. Sounds like hard core Nic-fit to me.

It's kinda hard to compare cig Nic levels to ejuice Nic levels.

The amount of vaping you are doing doesnt seem to come close to what you were smoking. Is there a reason why you are vaping so little? I smoked about what you did it sounds like, and when I switched to vaping I started at 16mg Nic, and pretty much chain-vapes for the first week or so. Don't forget that there are about 3000+ chemicals that you are no longer getting and that certainly freaks the body out for just a bit, but it DOES get better. I am now almost 9 months in and down to 12mg. And that's where you are starting is 12mg. See my point? Something to think about, hope it helps

Hi Meguevara. Sorry you're having trouble making the switch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're worried that you may be getting too much nicotine. 12 mg is what I used to get off analogues, but it's still a lot lot lower than many people are using. I smoked 20 Marlboro Lights a day, which are 0.5 mg here in the UK. That equates to 10 mg per day, which is probably quite similar to the amount of nicotine you were getting from your smoking habit.

I vape about 3 ml of 12 mg juice in day, so my total intake is 36 mg give or take. Sounds like I'm getting more nicotine than when I was smoking, right? It's not quite that simple, I'm afraid. You see, the amount of nicotine recorded on a pack of analogues is the estimated amount of nicotine that your body absorbs per cigarette - not the actual amount contained in each cigarette. With vaping, nobody knows exactly what the absorption rate is, but it's thought to be between 10% and 30%. 30% would seem about right based on my own experience (0.3 x 36 mg = 10.8 mg), but everybody's different.

To me, it sounds like the symptoms you were experiencing (and were alleviated by having a cigarette) are most likely caused by a lack of nicotine rather than an excess of it. There's not necessarily any need to up the strength of your e-liquid just yet. You said that you only take 2-3 drags on your e-cig every hour? Try taking 12 to 15 (the equivalent of one a whole cigarette). When I started out, I found that it was best to mimic the routine of smoking. Now, I just pick up my PV and take a toot whenever I feel like it.

Hi Megue...and welcome to ECF !
After you post five times...and wait a hour or so, you will be able to go into the Canadian Vapers thread...
They should be able to help you find places for juice.
You didn't say exactly if you were smoking a pack a day...less or more ?
I am not familiar with Canadian Classics...but have smoked duMaurier when in Montreal...they were the strong ones...red, I think.
Anyways, I don't think 1-2 vapes and hour could be giving you too much nic at 12Mg/ml. Might be 'too little'- sound like it to me.
You could cut it down some yourself by adding 2ml of VG (which you can get at any pharmacy) to 10 ml of your juice...
That would make your juice around 8-9 mg/ ml of Nicotene, but would also make your juice...like 60/40 PG/VG.
Just a thought.
Again, welcome aboard ...Best to You !

Congrats on quitting. I smoked about a pack of full flavor Pall Malls a day. I vape about 3ml of 24mg diy juice a day. You may need to step up to 18mg juice. My girlfriend just recently quit too and she smoked Camel menthol lights. She was about half a pack a day and she vapes 12mg of diy juice I make for her. She is fine with the nicotine level. When you got sick to your stomach that is being nic sick. To much nicotine. I had that at first if I vaped a lot in a short amount of time. It is pretty rare for me to get sick now. I really have to vape a lot to get sick. If 12mg is enough just vape a little more often. Remember your ecig is always "lit". You can vape anytime you want. Good luck on your quitting.

AOKP running on the Gnex.

I have to disagree. Based on the strength of the e-liquid the OP is using, her vaping habits, and the fact that her symptoms went away when she had a real cigarette, it sounds much more likely to be withdrawal pangs.

Thanks guys :)

It's rough! I've been smoking steady since 13, that's 21 years. I was a bit edgy before I got my vape and have been wicked edgy since. Maybe it isn't the vape at all. I also have some 18 so I'll try that.

And thanks to sbdivemaster for that link about inhaling. I probably was doing it wrong!

I'll go up to the 18mg and see what happens. I was kinda hoping to be able to take a couple hauls from it every 20 minutes or so... but I did notice that when I did my heart sped up. Who knows, maybe I should have waited until I absolutely wasn't edgy to try this.

Thanks everyone!

I'm just really hoping this works out because I'm spending 170$/month on analogues. The juice is MUCH cheaper.

ROTFLMAO! Oh sure, on the surface it LOOKS cheaper. Stay out of the picture threads where everyone is posting photos of their setups. You'll find your wish list growing by leaps and bounds.

Really? I vape way more than that. Nicotine absorption in vaping is different from smoking. It can be a little slower for one. And I don't know there are good measures of how much is present in the vapor and how much of that is absorbed exactly. You have to experiment. Sounds like you're not getting enough to avoid the really bad withdrawal.

...Canadian Classics... 1.3 - 2.8 mg of nicotine...

Those are on the high side. I smoked a cig that was more around 0.9 mg each. I'm using 12 or 18 mg liquids but vaping quite frequently. Far more than you mentioned above. I tried 24 mg but I seem to be trying to maintain a level of nicotine and want to vape often. And 24 was giving my tongue fits. :)

(Knocked my taste buds out for a few days even. Made vaping tasteless a while.)

Does anyone know where to get lower doses of nicotine in Canada?

Um... I'd be trying higher, not lower. If that's the right nic level on those cigs, you were getting a pretty hefty level of nicotine. More than I was. And going below 12 mg would be out of the question for me right now, I'd start sneaking cigs again...

I tend to agree. The nic level of the cigs she mentions is pretty high. And 12mg two or three times an hour? I'd be back to smoking.

I know when I did the withdrawal thing, sick to my stomach wasn't uncommon. It was, in fact, one of the more, huh, pleasant experiences. I think the vertigo was my favorite...

Oh, it can be done. I have to, money's tight.

Not that I wouldn't be spending more if I could. :)

i agree on maybe not vaping enough...
when i vape too little i get rreally "crabby"
when i vape too much i feel wired, like i drank too much coffee...
everyone is a bit different though...
someone did mention that your body is probably wanting all of those gross chemicals and is freaking out... that happened to me too :(
Also, the biggest symptom of vaping that most of us had when we started was blaming EVERYTHING on vaping
get a zit, must be the vape
sex drive changes, must be the vape
feeling like i'm getting a cold, must be the vape....

Also vaping is cheaper if you LET IT BE!! There are IMO some crazy people that have multiple $300+ mods and crazy expensive RBAs... Pretty but no thanks...

Either way hope that you find the answer!
good luck
