got a protege and have been loving it. both atty's (510) burned up after 2 weeks and am back on analogs and hating them.

thinking about ordering the red scorpion pack from dietsmokes just to have some variation in battery size and because i need to acquire more prizes for my collection. it comes with carts, but i still can drip, right?

i'm sure i screwed up my atty's, but what kind and why do you all use the atty you use? i'm wide open, but i can't wait to get something on the way to get me back on the vape train.

i've spent hours on the forums and would just like to hear from someone who's used the top 3 atty's and an explanation as to why you love it..

thanks

I've had good luck with official "Joye" 510 Attys. I don't have a dead one yet and its been some heavy vaping. Could it be you've ran it dry and perhaps clogged it? If yes, check out the sections on cleaning. I use the vodka bath + rinse in hot water method since you can't buy Everclear in PA.

I recently got some items from cignot.com who seems to specialize in the 510. Nice guy and fast shipping. If you contact him on here or his website he could probably get you back on track.

Personally I love the 510. I have a 901, KR808 and even the greencig carts. I think the 510 with the PCC is the best for me.

Sure sorry you have had some difficulty.

i know it's common for cats new to the game to burn up or otherwise abuse and destroy atties. no complaints there, but i need to learn what the score is. i'm thinking i need to be more gentle screwing them on. i've noticed the flat, bottom part is recessed on both. i'd love to see a more robust design. i'd pay whatever the cost to have something less flimsy and replaceable, but i'm just so happy that we have what's here.

thank you

Burned up... tasting bad ?? or just stopped working ??

If just stopped working, go to the PS site and look for the tutorial on adjusting the adaptor pin (sorry don't have time atm to search it out for you. This happens often when atty's are screwed on TOO tight and forces the pin down, losing contact. Sometimes, just backing the atomizer off a tiny bit can fix it if its only because of distorting the pin on "full crankdown".

There are also posts these about the adaptor contact fixes (with pics).

Sorry, I'm just not sure of your exact issue (burnt or not working) to attempt to go into detail.

I will weigh in with a recommendation that you look at several of the custom battery packs (I hate the term 'mod') as your next device. Why? Well...batteries replacements are certainly cheaper than the typical screw-in batteries you are probably using. Second, if you like vaping at the typical voltage of 3.7 volts, there are many long run-time batteries at this voltage that may last you a day or two before you would need to replace them. Third, most custom battery packs have reasonably-priced adaptors that allow you to vape many different atomizers with one device (yea, no more starter kits). Fourth, most custom battery packs can be configured to run at typical and high-voltages. Many vapers prefer high-voltage vaping while many others prefer the longs=lasting expereince from the regular voltage (3.7ish volts). Lastly, a few of these custom devices have mechanical, manual buttons that fire the atomizer. The advantage of mechanical device is there are no wires or solder, and the device will likely outlive you, your children and their children.

If you are interested in a finely-crafted, custom battery pack, I would point you to AdapteveR (AdapteveR - Solder-less - USA Quality), Super-T Manufacturing (Super T Manufacturing; home of the most innovative electronic cigarette products), and the Prodigy (PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!).

If you want to enter the custome battery packs world with a lesser investment, look at the Copper series (AtmosUSA), the Screwdriver (available from a few online suppliers) or the Chuck (just look through the fanboy threads on ECF).

Here's highping's resurrection method for dead atties: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-my-atty-resurrection-method.html#post1032570. I wish I'd seen this before I threw out the one that I thought I'd killed. Hope this or one of the other methods works for you, or that you at least get your new order quickly.

What he said!

And especially note what he said about a higher voltage like a 510 5v passthrough with no in-line batt. Don't throw those dead attys away. Higher voltage is well known to bring them back to life with this method.

i really can't properly show my gratitude for the hugely helpful support of this forum.

i'm a gadget/fixit guy by nature and my prognosis of my non working atties is that i compressed the washer-looking bottom/ threaded end of my atty against the post it connects to on my protege.
when i look at the atty from a side view through the breather holes in the copper threading area, i see a white bushing, whereas i used to see this area free and clear to the other side. imagine a sandwich that has been smashed down to be edible.
i don't know how to reconcile this. i don't think it's clogged. i think the terminals can't reach the connections to complete the circuit.
tomorrow i will receive the joye 510 red scorpion kit from dietsmokes. if the atties i get with that kit work on my protege batt, i will know my previous atties were hosed. i will keep them if only to dissect them to see up close how they work.

i appreciate all your help and responses.
if you have any more tips, please weigh in. i'm a sponge for this stuff

i think the terminals can't reach the connections to complete the circuit.

There are to methods to make the center contacts meet. The first is to insert a small diameter wire, or such, into the center conductor of the atomizer connector and gently wiggle it up. This sometimes works, but may not fix the problem entirely. Wiggle with too much pressure and you can pop out the center conductor.

If you search the modders section of the forum look for something called the Staple Mod. This might be a better solution.

If you think the connection is not being made to the center pole, I've heard of some using a staple or paperclip or maybe a small wire piece to bridge the gap. Just a thought. Might work. the 510 atty does need to be treated with some care. The inner components are relatively fragile. Most noob atty deaths are from fiddling too much with them, cleaning them too much, letting them go dry and burning them out, clogging them and having them run too hot. It takes time to get the right cart wicking, juice viscosity, etc, but once you do they do last a long time in general.

I think it is best to make sure in the beginning that you buy only Joye 510 attys, not the other knockoffs. They have the best track record, but still can have some duds. They cost about $8 each, so not expensive. I kinda look at them now, given all the ones I killed fiddling with in the beginning, like I would a light bulb...they last longer if you don't fiddle with them much. As much as I like playing with batts and carts, my attys now work properly without doing much with them at all. Good luck!

As you mentioned "lesser investment" - I've just noticed that trog is selling the original Mk1 Screwdriver (but with the improved Mk2 switch) as "buy one get one free" (really!) on ecigscrewdriver.com
