Hi folks,

I decided do try my hand at rebuildables, and bought the Dead Rabbit RTA on a recommendation from my local store. The first time I built on it was a little fiddly, but I got it working and everything was fine. When the time came to re-wick it I noticed a kind of burnt taste right off the bat, and rebuilt it with new coils. Now I've rebuilt it with 4 different types of coils, different brands, and 3 different makes of cotton. I'm using Mystic juice's Blackcurrant & Licorice, same as the first build, and every time there's that burnt taste. The cotton looks fine when I remove it. They even rebuilt it for me in the store, but same result. They blamed the juice, but then why was it fine on my first build?

Has anyone got any ideas on things to try?

(Note: I've tried starting at a low wattage and build up, but it doesn't help.)

Lots more info and pictures required.
If it tastes burnt then at least part of the coil is getting too hot. Remove the wicking and check for even heating and hotspots with a gentle dry burn at a lowish wattage. It could also be that your wicking is not supply juice evenly or sufficiently effectively to all or part of of the coils.

In it right now are Alien coils, dual NI80 3mm 0.10Ω (3-26/36) from Coilology. Cotton is Native Wicks Premium Blend - this is the build they set up for me in the shop. I can't take a proper picture, cause the camera in my phone sucks. Sorry. It seems they were onto something in the store, because I tried another juice and it doesn't give the burnt taste, but this is odd since the juice I want to use (Mystic Juice Blackcurrant & Licorice) tasted fine on my first build. I'm vaping at 65W on an Aegis Legend.

Sounds like the wicking is on the dry side. The happens frequently with factory coils because it takes a while dripping drops to juice them up even with repeated juicing.

When I used factory coils I used to fill the rubber "condom" cover that comes on the atty half way with juice and push the coil down into the condom bottom first. Some juice should ooze out of the top of the atty. Let it sit for 15 or 20 minutes and then install it and vape.
