I've noticed that right out of the box, the shortys don't indicate charge. I left them in the PCC anyway and after a few hours screwed on a cart. First couple of pulls were not very good. Then they started working quite well. I have also noticed that they do seem to charge now. The orange LED on the end glows constantly while in the charger and flashes three times when removed.

Anyone know what the three flashes mean? (I am charged? I am not charged?...)

I know there are people having issues with these batts and we certainly apologize... but once they get "dialed in" they are great. I dissected one over the weekend and the battery inside the tube is pretty significant. When we first got these, the first thing I said to Leaford is "these are crap". Now they are my favorite batteries. At least until we get our 10+ second cutoff extra longs in.

I have found that my shorty charges on the ac charger really well.( thanks Maaron for charging it) It also charges on my pcc if I screw it down all the way, then back it off about a 1/4 turn. Any slight hassle is well worth it for such an awesome battery! One question though, does the time it takes to fully charge eventually become less?

Mine charge on the AC charger in about 2 and a half hours.

Well I fiddled with it some more, screwed it in, screwed it out a tad then tried the USB charger and pushed it in, pulled it slooooowly out a tad. Pulled the moveable battery end up a little and tried again. I have tried everything and I can't get this baby to work! I should get the 4 I ordered today so I'll let you know how those babies do!

I think I have a dead one. Won't charge. Taking a hit illuminates the LED, but no cookin' going on. Sigh. This one goes back.

I'm having the same problem. I can't get it to charge in either the usb or the wall charger. I tried using it to see if that helped and the LED goes on for about a second but there's no heat - and then it cuts off.

What a shame. It's really cute, too. I'm going to leave it in the wall plug overnight to see if maybe that will help but I'm not optimistic.

I recently got four of these shorties. Two white and two yellow. The two white worked fine after an initial charge. One of the yellows hit ok, but the cutoff was about 4 secs on the initial hit and like 1-2 secs on subsequent hits. The other yellow was the some as other folks have described here - DOA - led lights up but no vapor.

I wasn't upset or anything, I've gotten 30+ batteries from these guys and this is the first time I've had a problem with any of them. That's a pretty good track record in my mind. So, I just went on about my business, vapin away...

Last night I got home from work, pulled out a fresh cart and pulled one of the white shorties off the charger it had been sitting on all day. Took a hit, the led lit but no vapor. WTF, tried a different cart, same thing. OK, this sucker was hittin like a champ yesterday and now it's like the yellow one that came in DOA out of the box.

So, I found this thread and took note of the posts that mentioned moving the center post of the battery around. I used a push pin and poked it thru the air holes on the side of the battery just below the threads. You can jimmy up the center post pretty easy there and with the three holes on these batts you can get it aligned straight and flush after you raise it up a bit. After doing that my previously dead white shorty hit freakin awesome. Seriously, it was about as good as my passthru. So I tried this with my original DOA yellow. Same result, hits like a passthru. The two that were working ok, also got the pin jimmying and now they too kick all forms of unholy .... I've got to believe that this is what Mark meant when he said "dialed in".

I understand that we shouldn't have to screw around with a commercial product and I'm sure Steve and the crew will get it figured out. We all know they will take care of anyone who got a bad one and wants a replacement. However, after you do get these little suckers dialed in, no one will be able to get them away from you until they pry it from your cold dead fingers.

If you have one of these shorties and you don't think it's hitting very good or if you think it's just dead, please try the push pin jimmy trick. It transformed all four of my shorties into cordless passthru's.

One other note: If you have an ac charger only use that on your shorties. Put it on very slowly and gently just about a half a rotation more after the led comes on. To much pressure on these will push the stem down and cause the DOA phenomenon. At least, I think that's what's happening...

OK Jon Solo
i started to do as you said and as the middle post came up a bit the light came on and started flashing. i put a cart on and took few drags and it lightly started to work then died again. so that seemed to work and do the trick. i will play around some more just wanted to post that as i said i would do. The thing is how much does the post have to come up. you can keep getting the post to come up higher but what is the correct spot I dont want to pull it up too much so going a bit at a time and going by eye>
Thanks again

I tried to do this but I'm not sure I get it. It still won't charge.

Anyone willing to do a video showing how to try to fix these shorties?

Thanks COS I hope it works out for ya. I didn't have to move mine up much at all. Sorry I can't really quantify it with a measurement, but I can say it's less than 1 mm. What you said is the best way to go about it, just do it little by little, you'll know when you get it right :)

If it helps, I just tried what Dohsma suggested earlier in this thread. You can essentially do the same thing with the center post in the cart as well. Raising the center post on the batt and also the cart will require less movement on either component and achieve the same result.

OK, if you look down inside the battery from the end with the threads where you screw it on to a cart you're looking at the center post of the battery. What you want to do is move this center post closer to the end of the battery that you screw onto the cart. I found it easy to move the center post by poking a push pin thru the air holes on the outside of the batt (just underneath the threads) and levering it up towards the outside of the batt.

I hope that makes more sense. Sorry, I know I can be obtuse at times even when I'm trying not to be...

Can't make a video, I've gotta beta session starting in 45 mins. Wooo Hooo!!!

Exactly what mine is doing. Fiddled with the center post, and finally got it to start charging on the PCC.......I think. When I screwed it on, the LED on the batt flashed 3 times, then went out and stayed out. The charge LED on the PCC stayed on. It's been about 2 hours now, so we'll see in the morning if it's fully charged!!

I can't get it to charge on the wall or USB chargers either. Pull up the post like I did for the PCC, but it doesn't work for them.

UPDATE: Okay, so it's been a few days now, and as it turns out, the battery never did charge. PCC, USB, AC -- nothing. But I'm not even gonna ask for a replacement. I've gotten so many freebies in the past couple of months that have way more than made up for this battery.

Besides, while I am kinda diggin' the short length, I think the manuals have won me over. I'm just not crazy about the draw on these!
