I agree with Wader2K. I have Republican family, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs.. this issue really freaks me out. (what this makes me is a fiscal conservative with extremely liberal social beliefs)
My biggest problem with Politicians as a collective whole these days, is that they focus too much on the money trail and not enough on what is really going on in the lives of the folks who vote them into office.
They need to at the very least, see the ecig debate as a way of tobacco users trying to reduce harm, and quit using the product that has all the negative health impacts associated with it.
They don't know how to deal with the classification of these products? then TAX them. don't ban them. (I'm not happy about taxing them, but at the least they can attach some internet tax to them for those folks who sell the products online).
Don't sell to minors - this is a no-brainer. However, the "over 18" law for tobacco doesn't stop kids from getting cigarettes.
We stole cigarettes from adults when we were kids... I bought my first pack when I was 16 from a vending machine.
For cryin out loud.. the FDA can't even get Big tobacco to come clean about all the chemicals they are using in their product (*cough* fire safe cigarettes *cough*) - why should the ecig be treated any differently?
It really is just some hystrionic reaction caused by some group with a lot of money that feels threatened.

Absolutely, I agree with you all that it's nothing but laying landmines when such divisions seep in. Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure that, as the only person in the immediate vicinity who had said the word "nanny" before related cautionary statements popped up, my own post hadn't been seen as a direct indictment in either direction. I had actually tried at the time to word it neutrally (while mercifully losing two or three thousand of the extra words I usually use to attempt such things! ;)). So, thas' all. :) Here's to vapers everywhere and hangin tough but optimistic on the big picture of it all! :thumb:

I see now....My use of the word nanny was not aimed at you at all. In fact, I am in complete agreement with your statement about the nanny state!

@loner re:sucking sound...... :D

@leaford EXCELLENT blog article!!!

Thanks to everyone else who expressed agreement. I had a long day and sometimes I have to be careful what I type. <grin>

Mia: "I always get sooo carried away in my own versions!!"

Me, too. I'm passionate, and have always tended to be very political. If making twenty zillion home visits to families where someone loved is dying has taught me anything, it's that political affiliation has a lot less to do with basic human kindness, decency, generosity and wisdom than the public machinery, and our own ever-categorizing minds, would have us believe.

Has anyone mentioned the almost 1 million dollars in funding that Senator Mattie Hunter has received from Pharm companies yet?

Would You ban Electronic Cigarettes For $886,235? Senator Mattie Hunter Would!

EDIT: After doing some research... I find her voting record to be confusing to this issue

08/09/2007 Cigarette Tax Increase
HB 556 Y Bill Passed - Senate
(34 - 24)

03/29/2007 Smoke Free Illinois Act
SB 500 Y Bill Passed - Senate
(34 - 23)

The Y's mean yes

So she supported Smoke Free Illinois which makes no sense in regards to E-Cigs and their records for helping people quit. However, her support of a cigarette tax can go either way, either she did it in an effort to get people to "quit out of economic hardship" or she's trying to bolster the already substantial tax revenue for cigarettes.
