Oh, for all my computer nerd expert friends here -- new problem on Dad's computer with MS Word. Markup is always on. I tried creating a new template with it turned off, but, when you open the template, it is still on. But I finally taught Dad how to find markup and turn it off so the problem seemed to be solved. Until yesterday.
He wrote a story which was fully marked up. He couldn't get it to stay off. So I turned it off, saved, quit. He wanted to send the story to someone so I attached it to an e-mail. Before I sent it, he wanted to see that it was the un-markuped version. I opened it and it was red again. I fixed it, saved and quit a few more times and, each time, it reopened with the markup.
Then, in the top left corner, I saw "Final with markup." It was a drop-down menu I'd never seen before. The other options were "Final," "Original with markup" and "Original." When I switched to final or original, the markup went away but returned when I reopened the doc.
Any ideas on how to turn markup off, preferably for good?
