I've only been vaping for a week, but I stopped smoking the moment I got my ecig. For me a big part of it is paying attention to the aroma (there's not much in the way of actual taste in vaping, or in most of our experience of taste). As a Chinese tea enthusiast I already have a pretty good palate, and something that I've seen numerous times is that once you start really paying attention to your senses, it can and does have a pretty profound effect. It's 'addictive' in and of itself; it opens up a whole new world to you, and I've seen many people develop healthier habits all around when doing so -- without even really trying. (All of this can be hard to fathom if you haven't experienced it.)

Your expectations play a large part in many aspects to this (including getting over the negative behaviors), but you can use this by looking for certain types of smells one at a time (spice, fruit, floral, etc) and seeing what you can pick out. The tobacco flavors tend to be the more complex ones, but there are a lot of different tobacco flavors -- some of them even I find disgusting -- and some of them (e.g., Halo's Voodoo comes to mind) aren't strongly tobacco-like. Of course you can also mix flavors.

Another big way that expectations play a role is in feeling deprived. If you feel deprived, then it's going to be much harder to get past it. If, however, you can think of this as something better than smoking then it will be a whole lot easier. Perhaps you can think of other ways to prevent/counteract feelings of deprivation (rewards or something); I didn't even think about smoking when I got the ecig because I was too focused on exploring flavors.

With that said, maybe consider using a lower-nic liquid for your normal vaping, and a higher-nic one when you get a craving? Also keep in mind that cravings usually only last for 5 mins.

Phew! I thought I was the only one! Our stories are almost identical. I find that I can go awhile but at some point during the day I start to feel like I'm going to turn in to Dexter if I don't have an analogue. Try vaping trough it but it doesn't cut it. The advice on here is so helpful and encouraging to know I'm not alone. Think I'll try the whole tobacco liquid too! I'll add that for me I just got a Halo G6 to supplement my DNA 30 and other mods. And it's actually helping to have a cig-a-like!

I'm only a few days into vaping, but it's hard for me to imagine giving up the analogues completely. Every day I set goals for myself, like "today I'll be happy if I only smoke five real cigarettes", and so far that is working. I was a 2 pack-a-day smoker up until this week... so I think it's a big improvement to only be smoking about five tobacco cigarettes a day.

Commend yourself for what you've already accomplished and keep setting goals for yourself... you'll get there!

Keep at it!

I know my biggest hurdle everyday is being near smokers smoking, ones smoking my brand is even worse. Just the smell triggers something and I start to crave the crave vaping cant satisfy....

Then, I take my DNA, bump up the wattage, and take a few monster pulls..... and the crave stops... Its hard and new, but the rewards will be worth it, both short and long term if we just "say no" to cigs. ( In just 2 weeks of vaping 100%... I have stoped coughing up huge brown chunks every morning, can finally breathe through my nose somewhat, and no longer weeze when I breathe)

Like others have said, you have to want to quit, otherwise it will be impossible. Def. not an easy journey.....

Edit to add: My wife and I were taking a walk in a public square, and its crazy to smell people who smoke who walk by (not smoking) and see how bad we smelled, but could never smell it ourself, all these years. Its awful !

-15year 1-2 pack/day Newport smoker- 98% cig free since I bought my 1st vape setup (damn vamo broke on day 2 and had a relapse :( )

you may want to consider trying Naturally Extracted Tobaccos ( NETs)... they seem to have something in them a bit more than just nicotine to help reduce the ciggie urges... it took me a bit longer than 6 months to quit the ciggies ( well... to desire a ciggie) if I really had the urge for one I would do a few puffs and put it out and that would suffice... from 3PAD to a few puffs a day is what I consider really good reduction in smoking
