Hi,
I've been vaping for 5 days and although I wanted to quit smoking immediately, I still smoke about 1 -2 analogs a day. I really want to quit completely and I'm hoping when the last pack I bought (Thursday) runs out I'll be able to quit for good... right now the temptation is still too strong knowing they're there. I only have 2 left, so I'm starting to get a bit nervous.

What was your experience like - did you quit completely, or did it take a little time to finally ditch those nasty smokes?

On the plus side, I created one of those vaping banners (that I can't attach yet since I don't have enough posts) and I HAVE passed up 85 analogs, so that's what I'm trying to focus on right now.

I did not quit right away and it was because the nic level was not strong enough. I started at 18 mg and got irritable and the whole 9 yards. 24 mgs has been much, much better and I have not even wanted a cig so far.

Hang in there. It is tough to find the right mgs, equipment and flavors but once you do it will work!

16 days today and only had 3 drags of an a anolog in that time. I am actually starting to think I dont need to vape either. After about 16 years of smoking a pack a day this is very strange indeed. I am going to see how long I can go without a puff on my PV

Well that little experiment didn't last long. I was puffing on my PV about 1 hour after posting this

nah, i got my 510 on July 4th - 16 days ago. pretty much as soon as i got my PV i went from 1 1/2 PAD of pall mall filters to ~5 a day. i prefer vaping to cigarettes at this point. ill probably stop buying packs altogether pretty soon.

i already notice a difference in taste and smell just from the decrease in smoking. i love it. vaping is truly superior! :vapor:

I was a pack and a half a day smoker, American Spirit Blues and/or Camel Filters for 25 years, 8 months, 7 days.

Got my first eCig late one night.... first day, I smoked 13 analogs. Second day, 6... third day 3 and I gave away my last analog :)

Don't stress on it... I think it's really a natural progression. As you smoke less analogs, and vape more, your sense of smell and taste start to return more and more. Lets be honest, tobacco is "an acquired taste" related to the addiction. It really tastes like cat-crap if you're not a smoker. Eventually you'll light up an analog and just say to yourself, "bleccchhh".

Do NOT set yourself a "schedule" like all quit-smoking programs tell you to. Just remind yourself that every vape is one less of those coffin-nails... and let it take it's own course. Before you know it, you'll be thinking "I want Kiwi or Spearmint or Espresso flavored vape, not this nasty burning weed". Trust me, it'll happen.

After making the initial decision to stop smoking in February 2009 we (the wife and I) stayed strong for about two weeks until the next payday. I then bought a pack o analogs "just to see how they are" and after the light and first drag I KNEW it was a bad idea to keep smoking, but I did and had one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life. Since then I have entirely lost my taste for analogs and only Vape so stay strong and don't stress about how long it takes you to lose your taste cuz you will

You're doing good Mookie :)

When I received my kit, I had an opened pack of analogs here (I was a 2-pack a day smoker) The first couple of days were easy to resist, but I gave in & had one every day or so for the next 3 weeks. They were tasting worse every time i had one!

When I had the last one, there was no fear or worry, it was more like "TG, they're all gone now, I don't have to think about them any more" And to be totally honest, I don't think about analogs anymore.

I truly think - keep vaping, smoke if you have to, & it will all come naturally...

It's been about 2 months vaping for me and I still smoke 5 to 8 a day. Cravings are usually after a meal and I always want one with my first cup of coffee. I, too, did well on 24mg, but dropped to 18mg and the cravings got worse. I go back to 24mg now when I need to quell the cravings and try to stay at 18mg when I can for maintenance.

I never intended to quit cold turkey. Quitting cold turkey for some, including me, is a strategy for failure. It can be a physical shock to the system when you have been used to all the habitual chemicals in tobacco smoke. I decided to allow myself to smoke a few each day and just be glad for the 30 or 35 that I DON'T smoke anymore.

Vaping provides nicotine relief for the addiction, but it doesn't supply the MAO inhibitors that smoke does. Once you get used to a much lower level of those chemicals, you can transition down again to fewer cigs and lower mg nic. That's my strategy. I quit on a bet years ago and didn't smoke for 2 1/2 years. I picked them back up during a stressful period and was hooked again.

We're all different physically and mentally.

It gets bettter. =) At least, I'm sure it does-- I'm one of the lucky ones. I smoked minimum a pack a day (more if I did anything that night. you know how we get when we drink), but when I got my first set of 510s I put analogs down completely, haven't even missed them. HOWEVER-- it sounds to me like you're doing really well, and different people have different cravings and needs. Don't rush this.

You're going to be fine. =)

Thanks for the advice!!

Been vaping 2 weeks and still crave analogs. I was a PAD smoker and have cut that down by half. Im using 18 mg and will try 24 mgs.

I was at about a pack a day for the past 15 years. Once I got my e-cig last week, I immediately went to about 3 analogs per day. I'm on 18mg and don't really have any cravings so far during the day.

But I have found that I do like to kick start my morning with a full on Marlboro menthol analog with that first cup of coffee, and have been having a second analog after dinner. The past two days, I did have a third analog around lunch time. It may be simply because I am working from home and I still have about a pack and a half lying around; maybe once they are gone it will be a non-issue.

The goal is to be off of analogs permanently...and then even taper down on the nic level over the next several months as well. But I'm quite happy right now from going from a pack a day to 2-3 per day. That's a big step in my book, so if it takes a bit of time to drop those couple of analogs, I'm cool with that.

3 packs a day for 26 years.

My very last cigarette was the one i was smoking while reading the directions of the e-cig I bought. Once I took my very first inhale on the e-cig, I never touched another real cigarette. Of course it helped that my wife was right there telling me how it would NEVER work for me. I had to prove her wrong.

I cut down immediately after getting my first ecig.My problem was not smoking that one cig a day for about a week.I was worried because I had continued to cut down on my number of analogs and did not want to mess up my record. The way I saw it,if I went a whole day with no cigs there was no turning back. But it turned out not to be a big deal.250 some days later I'm still analog free. 15+ years of 2 packs a day.

I quit smoking immediately and gave almost a full carton of cigs to a nice homeless fellow at the bus stop.

But I've had LOUSY luck passing on my good fortune to others. I've given away 5 starter kits and only one of them stuck. She's 16 days without a cig now and joined this forum. But 4 of them just weren't ready and found all kinds of reasons to dislike the ecig. And I don't understand how it made such an immediate impact on me and the others didn't like it.... what gives with that?

It took me nine months to finally stop smoking analogs. I started with a mini in October of last year, but with the battery problems and carts that only lasted a few puffs, it didn't do much to slow me down. About a month later I switched to a pen style and immediately went from 2-3 PPD to just over 1 PPD.

Since then, I reached for an analog whenever the urge struck. I didn't even realize I had quit until 2-3 days after the fact.

Ted,
What an awesome friend you are!
To give away all those kits was truly a gift of more than just an e-cig kit. You were giving your friends a chance to save themselves from all those chemicals. Hopefully those that didn't take to it will give you the kits back and you can pass on to others.

Thanks..
I could never keep a great secret to myself. All have kept the kits and claim to give it a try from time to time but at some point I will take them back. I still don't understand why the percentages of success are so great on the polls I've seen on this site but mine stink :)
