Friend of mine that I've been mixing juice for picked me (us) up a spool of this today. It's boiled and drying. Excited!!

Great! Since you already have the rounds and the yarn from amazon and cheese cloth, you can give us a four way comparison. :vapor:

ps, I've been vaping on the 804 this evening. I really like it so far.

Just had a big rebuild/rewick session!

Everything got the new peaches and cream except for my Drunker (Built Wednesday - I just thinned out the cheesecloth and smashed the coils together because it wasn't wicking right), and my IGO-L, because a girl needs to vape SOMETHING while everything else soaks.

Got a freebie AGA-S from a vape shop for helping out with their wick/coil tutorial. Set that up with the p&c too. We'll see how it goes... The airhole on that thing needs to be drilled out. I might even drill out the wick hole. I'll try it out stock though.

I have ... 5 new (6 total) RBAs in the mail to me right now. Plus a gizmo that'll help the A7 hold a ton more juice. Different things including a handful of drippers and one thing that I can honestly say I don't know what to expect... But no hints for you until it gets here! :p I have some AWESOME vapemail coming this week. :D

I honestly think you should start either a vape blog or doing steady reviews. You own so much stuff and have such a good grasp on rebuilding all this stuff, your knowledge would be a great asset to the community. I for one would love to know how the IGO-L does with the yarn, and what it is that allows the A7 to hold more juice -- and I am not a person who doesn't read up regularly, yet I don't know either of these things.

Think about it! :)

I've been thinking of several different ventures/avenues for this type of thing. I need to organize my thoughts and organize my gear and get my .... into motion. But maybe at some point down the line I'll have something consistent going... ;)

I've been using more cotton lately, and having good luck with it. After fighting with a ceramic wick in my mini-DID and getting poor results and then breaking it, I but in a cotton wick and it's vaping well. Really good falvor and great clouds as well. Only problem, if you call it that, is that it need to be changed frequently to keep the great taste. Usually a simple task though. I am using the cotton rounds for my wicks and I feel they wick better than the gauze or cotton ball I was using. Still have a few more types to try.

Good deal. I mean, you were probably largely responsible for the popularity of the Drunker tank. I doubt many would have taken much notice without your detailed internal breakdown and I haven't seen many "mainstream" reviewers even give that tank a look.

Your pics and easy way of discussing these things already benefit the community, and many who get involved in either blogging or videos can make enough to at least pay for their vaping habit. :)

Seems the cotton rounds are getting more and more attention/use. My goal origonally was to gain insight for everyone the different types of cotton and how they perform. I think the most important thing that has helped people turn to cotton has been the importance of soak time.

Below is cotton fibers magnified under a microscope. You can see the thin hollow ribbon like structure of the fibers. I think this helps as a visual of why soak time is so crucial in performance so the fibers do not burn.

I did my first 100 percent Cotton yarn wick today and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. I boiled the cotton first and allowed it to dry completely... then did a 4/5 (32 gauge) Kanthal wire wrap and installed it into my Phoenix RBA. I allowed around 15 minutes to 'soak' in the eJuices (I know! Should have been much longer but I was curious!).... and! I'm happy to report I have had no problems with any dry burning or anything like that. Out of the gate it performed (far better) than the 2mm Silica wicking. The flavor is much much better and I'm even getting more vapor (which surprised me) using the same juices I used with the Silica wicking. Another thing I noticed, (which I was wondering anyone else has experienced), is my Kanthal wire is NOT getting gunked up/or charred like it does with the Silica. My VV GS Sub 2.0 mod indicates almost 100 vapes since installation and usually the wick/wire is already pretty gunked up and charred looking by now.... but honestly, I keep checking and my wick/wire are still shiny and silver (Well, the wick is still white and the wire is silver).... which is really kind of blowing my mind... in a good way. Has any one else noticed this enhanced performance with your wire & wicks since transitioning to cotton?

Cotton is a different animal than silica and ss mesh. With silica and mesh the wick material is meant to be able to stand extreme temperatures. With cotton its absorbency and capillary action provides enough cooling and temperature control to keep things at less than burning temperatures.

So I did hybrid mesh/cotton for AGA-T+, it does work... but the flavor is not there at all. It's very faint so is vapor production. Comparing flavor to dripping rba and clouds to one time I managed to get it work for few hours with mesh wick...
second time I wrapped some cotton around wick, after burning away last one, and it was too much cotton? It was over saturated to the point when I couldn't get vapor with 4.2 volts on 2.2 resistance...
Third try, with much less cotton. 2.2 ohms, 3.9 volts and no flavor... no clouds... 4.1 volts and full mouth of burnt cotton...
What am I doing wrong?

Mesh was lightly burnt before wrapping and torched twice, without quench, after wrapping.

So I did hybrid mesh/cotton for AGA-T+, .....

I had good results with my dud using the method shown in this video. Start it at about 1:00 to see what he's doing. Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method - YouTube

Roll your ss on a needle or paper clip and get it small enough that it will wobble a little in the juice hole, then feed some cotton as in the video. Cover down enough to cover through the juice hole as well, as that's a potential short area as well. With the wick back on the pin or paper clip, wrap your coil. (Five wraps of 32 kanthal will give you close to 2 ohms). Drop the wick down the juice hole and mount your coil, then slide out the paper clip. Test your ohms and if ok, drop several several drops of liquid down the ss. Set it aside for about an hour, then give a few test vapes, dripping to keep juice supplied. If all works well, then fill your tank.

Not really necessary but here's a video in case anyone wants to see it. Start it at about 9:30 to see wrapping the coil and mounting it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=YjIusGTPB_I&feature=endscreen

Even after getting everything perfect with ss mesh I find the flavor just doesn't come through like cotton. I read that some people with sensitive palets find mesh mutes flavor. Just keep trying different things like JD mentioned and you'll find what works for you.

I just got done taking apart and cleaning all the parts on both of my vivi mini novas, still my go to atties besides the drunker. Welded nr wire legs to 36 awg kanthal for both coils with cotton rounds. I'm really enjoying the thinner awg r-wires. They have instant heat response which means instant vapor as sson as the button goes down. Thinner wires seem to disipate heat alot better than thicker wires which is why I think they go so well with cotton. They're both soaking right now, will report back with the results.

Well It had only been about an hour of soak time and both my VN's with the 36 awg kanthal are vaping just great with no singe flavor at all. Before with the 33 awg kanthal I had to soak for a couple hours and it would still have that hot cotton flavor for a little while but with the 36 awg it's just clean as can be right from the start.

It's also cool because the thinner the wire the higher the ohms. So 0.7inch of 36awg for 1.8ohm coil, which means I'm able to make a lot more coils out of 100 feet of wire than thicker gauges

bookmarked.. got some cotton at home a buddy gave me, guess he got it from a vape store a wile back but he's onto SS Mesh only now. I need to recoil my Phoenix v3 tonight and wanted to do something better than silica. Going to walmart in about 30mins here to get some dog food.... was gonna get some bamboo yarn but it sounds like that's not a popular one on this thread (only 5 pages in or so).

So do you guys boil all cotton? I got tons of q-tips around, and might pick up some cotton balls or make-up pads. Kinda new to RBA in general. I've got a Phoenix v3, and 2 AGA-T2's running SS Mesh, but the SS has a strange taste to it kind of.

^^^^ The white peaches and cream cotton yarn (available at Walmarts) has some good reviews and I'm planing on trying that in the future. Presently I use the makeup rounds from dollar tree. Mack shows a picture of them on page 3 of this thread. And yes, it's a good idea to boil it a couple times, what ever you use. Cotton should work well in your Phoenix. Let us know how it goes.
