noticed an odd thing yesterday...well odd to me anyway.
i first started vaping with a couple of picos (both of which have gone to good homes) then got a smok alien 220W topped with a baby beast and was quite happy with it. since then i've got a couple of tesla steampunk nanos and now mainly use RTA and rda along with them (there is a growing list of other gear but sticking with VW mods here).
thought i'd break out the alien yesterday with the baby beast for old times sake. filled it with my DIY 80/20 6mg cola liquid and used it throughout the day.
thought there was something wrong with my cola. very little taste and a cold vape even up to 65W.
before draining it i shoved the baby beast on one of the steampunks this morning. instant flavour and a nice warmth...even at 45W. all other settings the same and with the same coil. i knew the steampunks kicked out more W for W than the alien but this huge difference seems odd to me. electricity is electricity and it should be delivered in the same way (at least when not using TC). the chip? know little of such things but would it make this great a difference? battery consumption was doubled also.
anyway, i've babbled enough i think. in summation...the alien is heading back to the straining shelf of vapeage and will only be used in emergencies (or maybe with a dripper at home).
just my thoughts and findings with obviously limited testing.
the slow boat currently carries quite a few other sweet bits and pieces. the journey continues...
cheers and vape on.

Each brand of PCB (Control Board/Chip Board) is different quality, different programming, etc. See this disparity quite common in the difference between a well put together quality PCB (Examples the Evolv DNA and Yihi SX boards compared to the super cheaply made mass produced boards from SMOK, Joyetech etc.). It probably breaks down to mainly how the VW controller is programmed, could be Mean Wattage or badly programmed RMS (Root Mean Squared) on the SMOK board is not as finely programmed as that on the Tesla Steam Punk. QC is another issue, Tesla's QC is far more tighter and stricter than SMOK's, materials used, gauges of the internal component wiring, thicker wire will perform better than thinner, there are a great many things that make a mod that could be way and vastly different from brand to brand.

*Note, your Tesla might also be set into one of the harder faster ramp up modes like "Hard" or "User Defined" while the Alien might be set into "Soft" or "Normal" mode if such a mode exists on the Alien, but the Tesla has them, and initial ramp up can have a very major impact on vape quality and/or needing less watts. Example the Tesla set in VW, with Hard ramp up time, though the watts may be set at 45, the ramp up spike may be 60 to 65 for 1/2 to 1 second then initial fire, then drops down to the set 45 watts to maintain wire temp.

chip possibly... voltage drop of the mods themselves most likely.
i've got a lot to learn still but know if i go too deep...i might never return

crikey. thanks for all of that.
even my two teslas vary quite a lot in their output (had to set the most recent to 'soft' and drop the wattage). both the tesla i used for this and the alien were both set to 'normal' but i totally agree with the difference in QC (and build quality for that matter).
it's all a learning curve and i'm enjoying the ride.

I have to say the Tesla Steampunk is one of the most efficient power converters out there. It's nice, as long as you don't go below its 7 watts which is probably more like 10, perhaps. I think it's also pretty consistent through battery life, there is a slight sag, but not as much as some other mods. I fell in love with it for that reason.... then I got a provari, LOL. So, you get the drift....
