That's a bit of an old wives tale. Contrary to popular belief, alcohol doesn't give up that easily.
A study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture’s Nutrient Data Laboratory calculated the percentage of alcohol remaining in a dish based on various cooking methods. The results are as follows:

Preparation Method Percent of Alcohol Retained
alcohol added to boiling liquid & removed from heat......85%
alcohol flamed.......................................................75%
no heat, stored overnight........................................70%
baked, 25 minutes, alcohol not stirred into mixture.......45%
baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture:
....* 15 minutes.....................................................40%
....* 30 minutes.....................................................35%
....* 1 hour...........................................................25%
....* 1.5 hours.......................................................20%
....* 2 hours..........................................................10%
....* 2.5 hours........................................................5%

Thank you, good information. I stand corrected, so much for mythology or rumor.

The purest grain alcohol that I have found is from Poland it is called, Spirytus Rektyfikowany Recitfied Spirit, 96% alcohol by volume (192 proof). I soak my addy's in it but recently used it to cut some glycerine when diluting JC's glycerine based juice with more glycerine.

I didn't notice any throat hit, but I did notice I got more vapor than with distilled water and the atty seemed as if it got hotter.

If you're an American your best bet is going to be everclear. It's really really pure ethanol. You can get it in 190 (95% ethanol) and 150(~75%) The rest is distilled water. It goes for ~20$ for 175ml in the states. If you're in Europe and can find a duty free it should be a lot cheaper though. Taxes on alcohol in the U.S. are really high.

I tried tequila a while back at around 10-20 percent. I swear it made me feel a bit weird, not a lot and i chalked it up to placebo effect. I do wonder though if the method of consumption makes a difference. Inhaled would seem to get a lot more into the blood faster since its a more direct route than through the stomach. Just a thought...

I vaped 2 drops of Everclear straight and it made me drunk very quickly but it metabolized equally quickly. I then became strongly hungover and felt the urge use the bathroom badly but didn't actually have to go.

Although it uses a spray of mist instead of heat, and seems to be limited to slow quantity intake, it's a similar process (lung absorption).
