Hello folks. I started vaping as a way to stop smoking a pipe about a month ago. I no longer have a persistent cough and I can go jogging without the very real danger of death.

Being the tinkerer that I am, I set about refitting my old pipes. I figure that the best way to keep from going back to the pipe is to convert as many of them as possible. I started with my weird Ukrainian long stem...

It's got a 510 threaded auto switch up top and an IMR 18350 LiMn 800mAh battery in the bowl. The led is on the underside of the wind cap.

Now I'm off to ransack my pipe collection to see what else I can stuff a battery into. Is there much of a market for converted pipes like this?

I bought all of the parts from madvapes.com. I highly recommend them. I bought a pre-wired 510 auto switch: Prewired 510 Battery Connector, Sealed
and a IMR 18350 LiMn 800mAh battery: http://http://www.madvapes.com/imr-18350-limn-800mah-battery.html

I knew that the 510 connector wouldn't fit the charger if I mounted it flush, so I mounted it in a short section of aluminum tubing. I drilled out the stem to accept the tube about 1/4" deep. Cut the wires to the led about in the middle and put the led somewhere safe. (I lost mine. Twice.) Find an old telephone or ISDN cable and strip it for it's wires. Find wire colors that match those on the switch or at least as close as possible and solder extensions onto the switch and cover with heat shrink tubing. Glue the switch into the tube and the assembly into the stem after you feed the wires through.

Now the other end. Find yourself a spring. I bought one from Madvapes but ended up using one from a ballpoint pen. It was easier to drill a hole in the bottom of the bowl to glue it into. Strip a little bit of insulation off of your ground wire and solder it to the spring, then glue the spring to the bottom of the bowl. The rest of the ground wire continues out of the bowl. Test fit your battery often!

The top end. Hot glue the led to the underside of the wind cap. Trim the ground and led lead and solder those connections, then secure inside the cap with more hot glue. Trim the positive wire to length and put a good sized chunk of solder on the end. Position wire so that solder chunk will be in the middle and in contact with the battery, secure with more hot glue.

Then, close the wind cap, install your favorite atty and Vape like a Sir!

I could use more photos :)

The main part I don't understand is the auto 510 connector. Does it turn on when you puff on the pipe, or do you need a button somewhere? The description on madvapes does not make it seem like it is an "auto" switch connector.

Oh - I bet you meant this switch: 510 Auto Switch

Not completely clear on what charger you are using, is it a stick battery 510 charger, so the 510 connector has to stick out 1/4 inch or more past the end of the pipe body to screw it on?

Seriously, that auto switch, which I've never seen before, makes this whole conversion think almost a no brainer. So cool.

I've been using a crappy 510 cigalike battery for my "conversions" http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-pipe-models/425578-simplest-e-pipe-ever.html#post10125239 which do not have enough power to make my vivi novas vape well. Genius!

The battery is easily removable, so I could just put it on a charger but I didn't see the sense in buying one right now. I just use the little 510 USB charger. The extension was also necessary to mount my eGo-compatible clearos on it anyway.

The switch only activates when you take a draw on it, so there is no button on the outside of the pipe. Be sure that air can travel along the stem or the switch won't be able to engage.

The black wire goes to both the negative side of the battery (via a small part of the wire without isulation) and the negative on the led. The red goes to the positive side of the battery and the white goes to the positive of the led. I had to solder extensions onto all of these to fit the length of the pipe as I think it was intended for a cig-alike replacement part.

Thank you, I get it now. I don't think I need the ability to put a ego threaded tank on, I'm happy with my 510 ones, but from what I can read on the madvapes site comments, I'd better put an extension of some sort on because any leaking juice will quickly kill the auto switch.

I saw similar pipes to what you are converting on ebay as well.
