Citric Acid is sometimes used in fruit flavored juice to bring out the flavor. LorAnn sells it in powder form and it can be mixed with PG. I've never heard of papaya extract but would like to know what flavors that's used for.

There are a couple places that sell it liquid citric acid and says it's to add some tartness. I haven't tried any of them yet so I can't attest to whether they're handy to have or not. Amazon has it in little bottles for $2-ish; bigger bottles are available, too. Feel free to try it and tell me what difference it makes. Maybe it takes the candy-ish flavor down?.

MacArthurBug did some testing with pure Citric Acid powder a while ago and the effects were fairly insignificant. At best it will add a slight sourness to the liquid, but you probably won't notice it without high amounts. I do wonder about Malic Acid, which is supposed to be more sour than Citric. The FA Citrus Mix definitely has at least one of the two in it already.
