Mornin people... did a black cavendish/cherry in 100VG with the MW burst method... juice flavor ( drip on tip of finger taste test) is wonderful, plenty of cherry along with a healthy tobacco base note, the arouma is predominately cherry, mild on the tobacco. Did a 510 dripper test and the cherry is very faint but the cavendish is there. Once I was semi satisfied with the end product I added my nic base (vg) to bring it up to 18 nic. (1.8%). Unfortunately, the mixed (nic added) juice took on a "fishy" smell...
Is this what is as known as "skunk"?? its been a couple of days and the smell ( fishy) has lessened a tad... but the vape is wonderful doesnt have the fishy aspect... common occurance?? or did I create a new snafu??

Can you link to the MW burst method? thx.

FWIW, Ive seen 2.5" filters for sale on ebay for it. Where did you get 2.5 micron filters? Are they thin enough to allow the filter cap to be screwed back on to the chamber?

Amazon has Whatman 2.6 micron filters in various sizes. I have seen 3 micron, 2.5 micron, and other grades filters from other manufacturers online. I never considered the thickness. That is a good question.

An order I placed with P&T a couple of months ago was supposed to include some Capt. Black Dark and McClelland Dark Navy Flake. Instead of CB I got some Lane 1Q or at least the pouch was marked as such. The DNF wasn't the large dark flaked Virginia but a lighter more ribbony cut. Today I tasted the DNF and was hit with a strong wave of Perique. Methinks somebody mixed up the labels again, because I think I got Virginia Perique instead. I like a little Perique in a blend but this stuff has a wallop. I'd recommend it for Perique lovers. It just not my bag 'is all.

Oh, the Lane 1Q was a label mistake also. It was indeed Capt. Black after all.

I just finished putting the last of my tobaccos in to extract. Fifty-five of them now. I keep telling myself to slow down because this extraction business is getting like a full time job. My experiments with single varietals are coming along and I think I have a pretty good Maple Burley. My RY4 efforts are still not up to the synthetic brew I make but it's getting there. Now, if I could just find the perfect flavor to go with a nice Virginia-Turkish blend.......hmmnnnn.

Wow that is an impressive list you have going.I just very recently started doing extracts, and i gotta say,i wish i would of started a long time ago.My first attempt was with a black & mild cigar which came out pretty good, then i did 1 with a ryo tobacco that is ok,not great yet,but it has only been steeping a very few weeks,so it may get better. Now i have moved up to some Capt. Black, haven't tried that one yet,but it smells fantastic,so looking forward to trying it.My next plans are start some with a few different cigars.I smoked cigars on and off for several years,so looking forward to those as well.

Since i have had good luck with the extractions i have done so far,i decided to order some cigars to get them going.I used to really like me a good cigar every once in a while,so now i can relive those days haha.I ordered up Montecristo White,Cohiba,AVO,Flor De Las Antillas, and a Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story.I never tried the Flor De Las,but used to really enjoy the others,so this order should really bring back some good memories.

Please let us know how they turn out. Also, several DIY NET extractors trade between each other and this is a good way to quadruple your experience with different flavored tobacco and cigars. You may want to take a look at the DIY sub-forum - Liquid extraction from tobacco and the thread in General Eliquid Discussion - NETs Part Deux.

Cool, yeah the one for liquid extraction at the top of the diy section is the one that got me interested in doing the extracts, the one in the general section i didn't know about,i'll go check that one out now.Definitely like the idea of trading around as well, sounds like a great way to try out different types without the big cost of some of the higher end brands just to see if you like them. Thanks for the tips.

So can someone link me to threads with some in depth on cold maceration vs heat extraction, supplies needed, estimated ml's per oz of tobacco, fresh leaves vs premade blends etc

All this info seems garbled up and spread thing and I know those of you at this for years probably have an inkling what I'm looking for.

Much abliged,

Kevin

Think I'm done with cigars. After doing 20 that are rated 90 or better only the unrated Tatiana flavored cigars seem flavorful to me. Cigars don't transfer well into ejuice IMHO. Guess I'll stick to pipe tobacco where I'm finding at least 1 out of 5 are ADV. The latest is Corneil & Deahl Pennington Gap which is excellent. It's to bad no one is stocking Esoterica Penzance which is another outstanding vape along with Ashton Artisan.

To me cigars transfer just as well as pipe. They aren't quite as strong as pipe, but the flavors all come through. I tend to look for cigars that are reviewed as "flavor bombs" over the usual Cigar Aficionado ratings. My room 101 San Adres came out very well. It isn't even CI rated as far as I know. However Stogie Review and Kohnhead both called it a flavor bomb and reviewed it highly. So, sometimes it is better to look past the numbers and do a bunch of research.

Of course, each set of taste buds are different. So, my point is that each person should try extracting at least one or two cigars to see how it turns out for them.

I cannot distinguish the separate tobaccos with cigars like I can with pipe tobacco's. Initially I thought cigar extracts would be stronger in tobacco notes than pipe tb. I guess it's my taste buds. I agree with you Mike, in that flavored cigars taste better. I really like the Tatiana lineup. I've extracted all of them and I'm going to do the Mocha for the first time today. The Rum flavored Tatiana is still extracting and when done I will have vaped them all. Not a loser in the bunch. So, I think you are correct with your theory.
