DIY Nicquid always gets in my mouth?

Ok, I've been DIYing for almost 2 years.

Oh yeah, to start off, I'm using a Kanger Protank 2, which I would HIGHLY recommend to any Rebuildable lover, they're great.

So, I just bought some Pomegranate flavoring from LorAnn and added it to my premix, which is VERY HIGH VG. The only thinning agent in my nicquid is the PG Nicotine, and the Flavoring. This is pretty thick nicquid.

This is a new, STOCK coil. Before I had this flavoring, I was using my unflavored pre-mix of PG Nicotine and VG. It did not spatter in my mouth, or even pull through the tube into the base of the mouthpiece that much. I find myself getting nicquid in my mouth FAR too often after I've added the Pomegranate flavoring.

I added 20% flavor to the mix, so that means every 8mL of the pre-mix required 2mL of flavoring (making a 10mL bottle)

I haven't tried a new wick yet, but I don't see the point in trying one, as this same wick did not spurt the same nicquid when it was unflavored.

Wow, that was a big mess, I'm gonna leave that there, though.

SHORT VERSION:

Using: Provari + Kanger Protank II

What's wrong: Using the SAME STOCK wick. My unflavored pre-mix of just Nicotine (in PG) and VG did not spurt in my mouth, or into the area where the bottom of the drip tip goes. After adding my long-awaited flavoring, it has begun spurting out of control, both into the drip-tip area, up through the drip tip, and also leaking out the bottom at a not-very-alarming-but-subtly-annoying rate.

Should I just make a new wick?
Is there something wrong with LorAnn's Pomegranate flavoring I should know about?
Why am I asking so many questions?

An agitated thank you in advance,
Dan

Dan, The flavoring is probably PG based which is thinning your mix. It could be that the head was on the verge of leaking and thinning it out sent it over the edge.

I have a regular and mini Protank II and factory heads can vary from 1 to another. I'd recommend trying a new head, it will most likely solve your problem. Good Luck :toast:

Cheers,
Steve

Edit 1 I see your building your own heads as I do as well. Either try building a new head or put a flavor wick over the coil to stop flooding/leaking

Edit 2 From the LA flavoring thread:
Pomegranate Flavor
Contains: Propylene Glycol, Natural and Artificial Flavors.
Soluble in water.

20% more PG to your mix would definitely thin it out

Yes, I was aware it would thin out, however I have used thinner liquids in the past without this much spurting.

I've just made a new coil using .32 gauge Kanthal wire and 3mm Silica wick, and I actually use 2 flavor wicks (after I unspin them, to add extra fill. Usually my tanks NEVER leak. I try to perfect this, as I hate wasting nicquid, which shows how cheap I am, because it only costs me $1.90/10mL (including the cost of a 10mL bottle) Nonetheless, I can't understand why it leaked so much.. I guess that's why it's rebuildable.

I've made my new wick and besides the disgusting new-wick taste, it seems to be working out okay.

frying/sizzling=pg / heavy popping=vg (shake that mix well)
With protank heads I always find some on the top of the battery post, but its only spattering that builds up after a good tank or two, since there is basically an open path from under the coil through the grommet and positive pin. On tanks with short chimneys, it might be easy for a heavy VG mix to pop enough to spatter up through to the drip tip.

Great Dan,
I've been making mine with 2mm Ekowool recently (it's probably about the same size as 3mm silica - it's hollow and measured by the id iirc). Those heads can be touchy. Mine usually doesn't leak or flood but if it does I just rebuild it and it normally takes care of the problem. Not sure if it will help but if you aren't already, you can boil your silica or torch it prior to building to help get rid of the new wick taste. Not sure you can completely get rid of it no matter what you do lol. :vapor:

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for that little tip, Marky. I wasn't aware that VG and PG made different noises when they were vaporized. You've given me something new to analyze. :D

However, as I said in my previous post. I actually make my wicks so tight that liquid doesn't really drip down, I usually have to give a small exhale through my tank before I take a drag to move the liquid onto the coil.

I use 1 3mm Silica wick with 6 wraps of .32 gauge Kanthal wire, however after wrapping, I unwind the wick after removing my paper clip as to fill the entire coil with the wick, and I then add a flavoring wick (the same Silicia wick) on the bottom and one on the top.

Also Wings --- Would I need one of those actual torches or could I do it with a lighter? I usually just run a little across the wire 4 or 5 times pretty slowly before I wrap it.

Hi Dan,

I vape kanger T3's which are close to the pro's as far as the coil goes. I also get this once in a while and when that happens it usually means the upper wick is shot or missing. THis will happen if rinsed under water. I will generally just replace the upper wick and be done with it. Also if you cleaned it recently make sure the upper silicon seal is not missing (The one on the snap in stem pipe). If it still leaks you may need to rebuild the entire double wick coil. High VG should not leak at all. So look at the coil.

I have previously examined the coil.

As I said before, I was using the STOCK coil, which only had 1 flavor wick, which I just noticed was really cool of Kanger. First coil I've gotten that had a flavor wick.

After rebuilding it using my coil, I have not experienced leaks anymore.

I think I made this thread because I wanted to whine and complain about having to make a new wick when the old one hadn't burnt out. :D
