Something that has been bothering me since I started DIYing. Disposal of unwanted or unvapeable juices I've made in the past. With so many peopls DIYing, what are people doing with all their unwanted stuff? In the past I would just throw the sealed 30mL dropper bottle in with my other garbage.

But, then I began becoming concerned about the environment. That isn't a good way of disposal, as garbage is crushed in landfills, thus, nicotine goes into the soil. I never even considered putting it down the sink drain nor into the toilet. That's just insane. So now it just sits in a box in my closet.

Can any 'pro' DIYers assist me in finding out how to properly dispose of ejuice? Actually, anyone who can chime in would help. Who am I supposed to take this stuff to in order to dispose of it properly?

Many thanks!

nicotine isn't bad for the soil. Especially in small levels. In order for the soil to become contaminated to the point where it could do harm, you would have to be dumping gallons of juice in the trash. Also, many people don't know this, but nicotine has been used in the past as a pesticide. So, I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)

I used anything I absolutely couldn't vape in the fruit fly trap last summer.:D

The suggested way to dispose of liquid medications is to pour it into a zip lock bag containing kitty litter and then throw it in the regular trash. The cheap, non-clumping litter works best for this particular application, unlike owning cats. It's relatively inexpensive to buy the smallest size and store it for any future needs. Works nicely on ice during winter too. :)

I run any undesirable liquids down the drain. Combined with running water in the sewers, it gets diluted to the point of nonexistence.

I've done the same, and using the same logic. I guess if you dumped a 55 gallon drum of pure nicotine down your sink, you might have some issues, but I can't see small amounts of relatively low nic level juice being much of a problem.

Only problem is, there are somewhere between 15 and 20 million of us. If 5 million, somewhere between a third and a quarter, dispose of one 30 mL bottle down the drain in a single month, that equals almost three quarters of a million 55 gallon drums by month's end. That's a lot of juice.

You could apply the exact same logic to second hand vape if you wanted to. It's from a dilute solution that is further diluted when released into the air, but hey, what if 15 to 20 million of us all exhaled at once?

Less airborne bacteria and fungus spores? ;) :D

Honestly I have never mixed a juice where I could not finish the 30ml bottle in over two years of DIY. I do not pour ejuice in sinks or toilet either because if the water treatment station is not testing for that it will stay in the water. I just put mine in the garbage as nicotine is a bug repellent plants produce naturally. So I use it as weed control at the local dump. LOL CHEERS!

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Nicotine is still used as a natural pesticide and can be used in organic gardening. Generally, nicotine sulfate is sold at a 40% strength, so your e-liquids are going to be far below that.

Now, due to the flavorings, it may attract critters that you don't want getting into it. So I'd dilute it in a gallon of water first. At that point, the solution will be so weak that there'll be no issues in using the water in your garden (flower, vegetable, or whatever you happen to be growing outside).

between here and there
I recently had some unflavored nic go rancid. I went looking on line as to how to dispose and did run across Nic as a pesticide. Apparently, since it is in nature already, it is easily absorbed back in with relativity little notice to the surrounding landscape. So I mixed it in some water and sprayed where I had a problem area outside of my house. Treat it like any other pesticide and practice safety, but it won't hurt plants or your lawn. Stay off any sprayed areas until its dry.

:)

Is there a bit of irony in this topic? ...environmental concern over a substance that many of us take into our lungs and bodies hundreds of times a day?

We consume a lot of things that should never be released into the environment. Look at the amount of trace drugs we get in our drinking water because people flush expired medications down the toilet instead of disposing of them properly.

One aspirin will stop a headache. 40 aspirin will stop a heart beat. It's all relative.
