I agree UncleJunkle, using and making coils, specially complex coils are much less talked about these days. I didn't make any connection with pods gaining market share, but that may have a connection. The popularity of pods has grown in leaps and bounds and it seems the whole vape industry is headed that way. They are huge in China! Who knows, maybe we can only have so many hot trends alive at one time
It seems to me that once a hot topic dies down it never comes back. At least I can't think of one right now that has in the last eight years. Guess only time will tell.
I think I was rebuilding after about 6 months and mixing within a year. I wanted convenience, a better vape, lower cost, and peace of mind. I'd be surprised if 100,000 US vapers are DIY. I stopped talking to coworkers who vape about stockpiling, it only annoyed them. I had a minimum stash before last summer. Now it's not eccentric to believe access to products might be restricted so I'm getting some vape toys to play with in case they get out of reach. I've got new stuff for the first time in 4 years but still prefer what I settled on back in the day. If there is a successful black market I suspect it will be small packages from offshore.

Maybe many vapers are on a low budget (or think they are because they think short term like smoking) but actually, they just don't get it... no use explaining to them (the hard truth will hit them very hard when it comes) Cover your own "..."... and don't forget "sofarsogood"
Indeed, they are. To me, mixing liquid a few times per year is much less hassle than incessantly having to buy cigarettes. Then there's the cost; I vape all year long for what I was formerly paying for a single carton of cigs. So revert to smoking? Not in this lifetime!
After spending $5000 on mods, I think making my own e-liquids saves me money !

I don't repair my mods well, although I have rebuilt a couple Reos Grands. I have been winding coils for years, and mixing recipes and extracting tobacco flavors for three years.
But you will not see clouds anywhere near me. I am still 'tootle puffing' comfortably around 11 Watts. I never saw anyone condemning vaping as a whole, until cheap asian power boxes started pouring out 75 to 100 Watts. Prior to that, I was casually asked about what I was doing, and if it helped me quit smoking. But once younger people started trying to fill the air of restaurants with their exhale, the image of vaping changed dramatically.
So if you pass me on the roadway, in either a Ford F-150 or a Frieghtliner with a FlatBed, don't expect to see clouds. But if the sun is just right, you might notice an ever so slight yellow film inside the windshield.
And I expect to be mixing and winding as long as I am around.

I know some relatives whose entire family (adults, of course) make juice. They’re the only ones I know personally though. They make coils too, and one other person I know did, but gave up on it.
I started mixing a few weeks after I started vaping (thanks to aforementioned relatives) but only started building a couple years ago.
If we’re talking about seeing vapers in the wild, I rarely do, even less frequently now than ever. I still see smokers though.
