Not to be a bad influence on anyone, but Djarum's market will continue with their 12 pack of "cigars". Trust me, they are Djarum Special in a one-shade-lighter paper. They run $4.50 a pack around here (comparable to the 20 pack at $7.50-$8.00). The shop owner where I used to purchase my Djarum said they would also be producing a Black cigar; same thing-a cigarette/kretek in a cigar costume.

To add to this... I found www[dot]herbspro[dot]com

It's in CA, has clove extract, cardamom, cinnamon...

Once I get set up and making my own flavorless, I think clove is going to be the second one I try to perfect (The Sampoerna classics were my favorite, D Blacks after Sampoerna switched to a 'milder' blend). Why second? Because rating right up there with Clove and Vanilla, there's not yet been a truly 'good' Menthol either, so say the menthol smokers I've read here.

I posted this in a thread in the DIY section, and tried 3 times to post it today, but 15 minutes of typing down the drain "Server Busy". So here I go again:

Original post:
############################
I just mixed 4 drops of Eugenol oil with 10ml of base, it is the perfect clove ejuice!

For those that like clove you must try this!
Eugenol Natural - 2.5ml vial
############################

Eugenol!

Eugenol (C10H12O2), is an allyl chain-substituted guaiacol. Eugenol is a member of the phenylpropanoids class of chemical compounds. It is a clear to pale yellow oily liquid extracted from certain essential oils especially from clove oil, nutmeg, cinnamon, and bay leaf. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It has a pleasant, spicy, clove-like aroma.

The name comes from a scientific name for the clove, Eugenia aromaticum or Eugenia caryophyllata. Eugenol is responsible for the aroma of cloves. It is the main component in the essential oil extracted from cloves, comprising 72-90% of the total. Eugenol is used in perfumeries, flavorings, essential oils and in medicine as a local antiseptic and anesthetic.[1] It is a key ingredient in Indonesian kretek (clove) cigarettes.

I have ordered and used this and 4 drops in 10ml of plain ejuice it is perfect for me!

For those on the "Dont use eugenol" band wagon, the ingredient in eugenol that causes the numbness is the clove oil. Since eugenol is comprised of extracts from from clove oil, nutmeg, cinnamon, and bay leaf it is up to you if you want to use it. But this is what they use in the clove ciggies. I would not exceed more than 8 drops my self but it is up to you and your personal taste. If you love clove ciggies then you will love this!

Enjoy!
Dan

Dan,

Is the eugenol any stronger, sweeter, more fragrant or different from Lorann's clove oil in any noticable way? I ask this because i ordered loranns clove oil before you recommended eugenol to me a few weeks ago. It actually worked out fairly well in the Djarum Black recipe you posted a while back...but it still seems like we're missing something. I'll have to check into cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon and try some different mixes with those. Hopefully we'll find a perfect Djarum clone soon!

Scubabatdan - Thanks for the eugenol tip.

I had the same problem... typed a reply post 3 times before finally giving up. :-x

I will definitely try the eugenol. I just need to get that and then some unflavored base. Depending on how that goes, I'll probably still experiment with adding some other flavors to the mix.

I'm wondering about "black tea", only because my gut tells me that there is probably some tea in that secret Djarum sauce. Also wondering about adding a drop of teaberry or maybe passionfruit, to try and capture that subtle "fruity" flavor in Djarums.

I've already discovered that clove-flavored ejuices seem to be few and far between from what I can tell. But, I was curious if anyone - especially anyone who has previously smoked Djarum Specials, specifically- had discovered any juices [or recipes!] closely akin to them? I saw a post on this forum made by Hellen A. Handbasket about AromaEjuice's clove being quite pleasant & the best she's tried so far and have since ordered that with high, high hopes. But, while I wait for that to arrive, I was wondering if anyone had any other tips?

I hardly believe that a single juice, unless very specifically crafted, would provide the same flavor as a Special [though one can always dream, right?], but I'm crossing my fingers that one of you may have comprised some magical substitute recipe from multiple flavors...could this possibly be true? :nun:

I would be forever indebted! Thanks to all in advance, in either case.

Heaven-gifts.com has one they say is black djarum clove it might be something worth checking into. also their 30ml bottles are 9 dollars. I cant tell you how good they are as someone recommended them to me and I am waiting on my order to come in.

Be *very* careful with teaberry. It's waay stronger than I expected.

Also, scarlette, I totally forgot to fill you in on the flavors I ordered. I initially made no-nic fluid since all I had was some VG and flavor, but I eventually got some nic'd PG and tried out some true mixes. Teaberry, as I mentioned above, is very strong. Though it is very tasty. The other flavors I used to mix 2 DIY fluid recipes - Djarum Black and Mountain Dew. D Black turned out nice, but it's not quite fruity enough. Mountain dew...doesn't taste like Mt. Dew at all, more like a general citrussy flavor. It's an OK flavor, but I imagine it would be better with more PG and less VG. VG just robs the flavor so badly that you end up having to add too much flavoring. The bottle i put it in just reeks of citrus, even from several feet away. I had to take it out of my juice wallet because it made my pocket reek all day. I'll probably try mixing something up with each of the individual flavors at some point, but i have soooo much juice right now. No need for more at this point.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but to everyone who says that they're losing posts because of the "server busy" message-- every time I get it while posting, I just wait a while and click reload. The browser asks if I want to resend form data, I click send, and the post goes through. Is this not working for others? I'd hate to think people are being dissuaded from even trying to post because of the server issues...

(P.S. yay for everyone working on Djarum liquids! :D)

[Pre-post edit: by the way, the "server busy" message happened with this very message, while I tried to preview it, and the reload-thing worked fine as usual. ;-))

After I copied down the ingredients on the Djarum site, I Googled several of the mystery items and it seems there are several types of plum in Djarums. Plum plum, plum casings, all forms of plum. Yum. Plum. I'd go heavier on plum if you are looking for that fruity overtone that Djarums give.

Oooo! Excellent. Thanks, Lizinator!

Do you happen to remember where you found that? I also did some Googling to try and find more of the Djarum secret ingredients, but I don't remember seeing anything about plum. (Not that I don't believe you - I'm just looking for more leads.) :thumb:

Looks like plum flavoring is on my growing list. :D

Yeah, I tried that, but I got sick of waiting. I'm glad to know that if I can keep my impatience in check, I won't have to loose my insightful and witty expression to the electronic void. :p

Thanks, hxj! I'll give it a try the next time it happens.

This is a great thread. Thanks guys.

I wish someone would have warned me about how addictive this e-cig thing is - not even counting the nicotine! I may be replacing an addiction to analogs with a full bore obsession with all things vape! I haven't even ordered mine e-cigs yet (must wait until payday <sigh>) and I think I have spent at least 20 hours on this site and several of the links from here. I only joined three days ago. I've been talking about e-cigs and have gotten some friends an even my mom interested in them.

Crackerbarrel is a great place to shop for old fashioned candy. I love the honey spoons. Hey! Yet another benefit of e-cigs - I can get my candy fix without the calories <grin>

I forget the brand of cloves I smoked way back in the day, but they had a honey dipped filter. So I think a drop of honey flavoring would be a nice addition to the recipe.

As far as different flavors for DIY liquids go - can essential oils be used? From edible plants of course - not oliander or anything silly like that. LOL There are many essential oil companies that use true essential oils, not synthetic scents. My mom is a perfumer and has just about everything in stock (www .toniannesmagickals. com) so I should be able to experiment a bit. If someone wanted to invest a couple of hundred dollars, there are distilling machines available to make your own oils from herbs.

If oils would be bad to use (something about clogging attomizers)- how about using tictures for flavoring? You can make a tincture from just about anything. Do a google search on how to make tictures - basically herbs, Everclear or vodka, a drop of glycerine and a bit of time. The vanilla you get at the grocery store is a vanilla bean tincture. I think that would be better, taste-wise, than any synthetic flavoring.

Hmm....spinning my own yarn, making my own perfume, canning jellies and jams, home brewing of wine and mead - might as well add formulating e-juice to my list of hobbies/obsessions. I just need to learn the chemistry and mechanics of it and lay in some supplies.

Now I just need to order my e-cigs. Hurry up and get here payday!

Be well,
~A

From my own personal experience, I purchased these Djarum Special cigars from a Chevron station that was carrying them one month before the ban. Not knowing about the ban at that time, and thinking they just created new packaging, I bought three packs. Three puffs later, I had to put it out cause it tasted so bad! I would compare it to a cigarello with a strong cigar taste. Left a bad taste in my mouth for hours as well. I passed out the remaining packs to liqour store owners so they could show their Djarum customers what they'll be getting after the ban.

I have a letter that one of those store owners gave me. It states these Djarum cigars will eventually be available in many of the old flavors, Vanilla, Black, Cherry, Splash, and Bali I believe. I have the list somewhere if anyone's interested.

Hi Boris. Yep, they already have them in Special, Black, and Splash at the place I used to get mine. But, like you, I tried them and found them to be quite horrible. :nah:

I'm sure I posted the full list on here but now I can't find it. It lists casing compound ingred. and "top flavor" ingredients--the casing includes plum casing and the top flavor lists pruimen (which turns out to be plums). Nangka fruit is jackfruit and that's listed too. Pisang ambon in the top flavor is an Indonesian banana liqueur. Probably not sitting on the shelves at your local liquor store, but who knows? It lists "clove enhancer", whatever that is, and salak cider. Also strawberry, pineapple, cassia (a cheap Chinese type of cinnamon), vanilla, orange, aniseed oil & licorice (listed separately). Top flavors include chocolate, maple sweet, and "dried fruit". Coffee is listed too. That's all I can remember.

I did a little research and looked at the bill (HR1256) that was passed mandating this ban on flavored cigarettes. It is a disgrace to our system the way this thing was pushed thru. Part B of the bill has do do with reform of federal retirement benefits and giving more money to the dependents of members of the armed forces who are injured or killed. To get part B passed, legislators had to vote for the whole bill.
With a system like this, the American people have no real representation. I'm absolutely horrified by this. Please comment.

I'm not real political in terms of party preference. We have the best government that money can buy. That sums it up. There was a law called the Line Item Veto Act of 1996, that gave the President the power to veto parts of bills like we're discussing. It was only used twice before a couple of hospital associations, two labor unions and a farmer's co-op filed suit and it was declared unconstitutional. Then it was back to busines as usual.
Yesterday, I shed a tear for our country, thinking about what it was and what it's become.:(
