Thermal runaway is thermal runaway, li-po or imr (both of which are lithium chemistry). Fact is, with some of the trends in vaping lately, a 30c li-po would be safer then imr's.

Great news, P Bus basically posts that the most exciting part about the DNA200 is the software. From what he implies, it will likely have on desktop application that allows you to some how monitor and adjust different features via software updates. This is more then updatable firmware, it seems to be programmable by the end user. I say this because he implies its a tinkers and researchers mod, and talks about how extensive the customization is. For a researcher, it would have to show detailed analytics as well as offer some sort of firmware programming.
A programmable chip is really something that would be interesting, although i'm not sure what context it will be in. Maybe being able to adjust ramp up times. Present setting is a must and showing averages of certain operational levels. Something else that would be interesting to a researcher would be real time stats when connected via USB of what's going on. Time will tell, but this would mean evolv is bringing some more innovation.
The one thing I don't like is all the secrecy. I understand the need to protect their innovations, but there not apple. They aren't working with cutting edge unreleased hardware with non-disclosures from various partners or revolutionary software innovations. They work with power regulators and now supposedly bare bones software. Whenever they release a product its cloned in a week usually.
I like the yihi approach better, announce everything, including all features of the chip. Start a pre order, and as it gets closer to the date of release, add more and more features. Of course we deal with delays, but in the end, there products are way more open and turn out to be better. Evolv was never suppose to release a high powered mod, but they realized their approach was not working and not what the market wanted. Keeping everything hush hush is not working, and its not what the market really wants.
Tell people what you're working on and release your chip, it's going to get cloned instantly anyway lol. If all this is true, once they release this chip, wifi will release one with an operating system and OLED for cheaper. Props to Evolv for embracing the changing market anyway with this high powered mod, and bringing software into the mix. It will bring the industry forward!
Also, Idk if anyone remembers, but in december 2014, yihi announced the YiHi SX350 V250. It has 250 watts, upgradable software, a phone sized display, and a bunch of other features. Some people said this was a joke, but I dont think it is as its still listed on there website. I think this is why Evolv suddenly jumped up to 200w with a software suite. Maybe the caught wind of Yifi labs projects and are just trying to match whatever their next big release will be. Here is what they said one of the chips there working on is. Notice there are 3 different sized screens, 2.8", 3.5", and 4,3". This means they will have several versions, it may seem goofy to have bluetooth but im sure its optional, and could mean smartphone integration.

I'm going to wait for the full story. A GUI with customizable setting would be nice. But 3 18650's or a Lipo pac if those are our choices for me it's a Fail!
Why are people so anti li-po pack? They far outperform comparable mah imr's, in both amp draw and life. I use an 800 mah pack in my variant that lasts longer then my 2400 mah 18650s at the same wattage, and it can run 200 watts safely.... Embrace the li-pos, they are a good thing!

I don't think that peeps are anti-lipo, but your general "desktop" modder isn't gonna want to be hunting for a suitable enclosure, then pre-plan the build...and THEN have to find a battery that'll fit.
This is gonna be a crapload of guess-work for a modder since most DIY mods are already based on known dimensions (18650) and known battery safety. Not to mention the unknowns of what could happen if the builder were inexperienced and mis-handled a 3S1P pack? This in of itself could be a serious liability for Evolv or anyone presenting the board to the general public without some kind of warning or "not for noobs" disclosure.
Just the thought of what could happen is scary to say the least....
And I agree, lipos are far superior to standard hybrid-IMR 18650's....but 18650's are easier to work around and a whole lot safer than a 3S1P pack!
I think he means modders board likely because of the customization that can be done via firmware updating and monitoring, judging by how it talks about the software suite being the key thing. Like modding the way it works, not really from a building stand point
Evolv won't say this but I will. This board is built to slap faces off. With it Evolv leaves no doubt they are the best, baddest vaping boardmakers on the planet, and that everything else is and always has been a pale imitation. It shows that they, as the originators, have the most complete understanding and best implementation of temperature protection. And it shows that the quality of their product is second to none.

No I meant that this is not gonna be a modder's board.
A "modder"...is a 'garage builder', that's where the word modder originated from.
Back in the days of early vaping (2007 - 2009) "modders" we experimental builders that would make mods out of almost anything with a battery inside. This is back in the days when flashlight "mods" were popular and everybody and their brother were hunting for 510 connectors and dead stick batteries so they could salvage parts from them and "mod" something and make it substantially more powerful.
But even back then, you'd never see a modder build anything with series batteries....too dangerous. Peeps were perfectly happy with one 18650.
The word "mod" is actually a home-made device, not Chinese vaping gear.

seems like it would have to be either a lipo or 3 18650's to get that much voltage, apparently this board show's your amp draw
A professional modder's board, but definitely NOT a beginner's board.
3 cells in series is dangerous and would require extreme care.
One mistake in the build and somebody's gonna lose a limb.
It's actually easier to build than previous boards. EDIT: For the most part.
Any idea when Evolv will be making an official announcement of the board?
Don't know. Speaking of announcements, people should look back at Brandon's announcement of the DNA40 and note that he mentioned that they were already working on this board. In case anyone thinks this is "playing catchup" to Yihi or anyone else. And yes it was this board he was referring to.
