Kiwi,

Take a look at this on Busardos site. He has two pictures of the inside that shoe the movable 510 pin attempting to punch a hole in the LiPo... Not Cool. Pretty on the outside but the inside - not so much.

Probably won't puncture it being the ends are just plastic "caps" but I wouldn't personally like that for a $229.00 mod. Even an additional 1-2mm in height would have been sufficient and almost imperceptible in the "feel" of the mod.

Grin.

Here's my expectation: the dna200 is gonna drop. Manufacturers are gonna fall head over heels to rush out to be first in market. Some of them are gonna have silly design flaws, of which a few are gonna have some terrible safety design flaws.

Eventually most are gonna either tweak their designs, or come out later with designs that make sense.

I have zero doubt that somewhere down the road a mod that's safe (or as safe as it can get) will pop out. This could be in the form of manufacturers housing the Lipo in an internal hard case or some other design. This industry has no shortage of brilliant manufacturers. I think the issue is really gonna be:

1) whether people can accept the inherent risk associated with lipos
2) how long you're willing to wait for someone to come out with something that makes sense.

I personally have no need for anything above 50 watts. The absolute need for either a lipo or 3x 18650 bugs me. But hell, the ability to firmware upgrade, use diff wires, customize display output is solid. I think conceptually the chip is killer. Now we wait for the mod manufacturers to complete the puzzle

ETA: tbh, I would be thoroughly surprised if the final version of the board doesn't have a way to dynamically detect the number of 18650 used (easily proxied by the voltage detected) to restrict the output available to a user. Something along the lines of

1x 18650: min resistance = 0.1, wattage range = 1W to 40W
2x 18660: min resistance = 0.05, wattage range = 1W to 80W

Etc etc

Vape Mail has arrived in less the a day. Ordered it at 11:44am yesterday and it was here at around 10:30am. It's smaller and more compact then I realized. Letting it charge had only a half charge then I'll play around with it.

Kiwi,

I wasn't as concerned about the Lipo as I was the pinched 510. and stuffed in foam to hold everything in place. From the outside it looks nice, take the lid off and it looks like a HomeBrew.

As far as the batteries you wouldn't even have to get fancy with auto detect. Just via menu tell it what kind of batteries you are using. By the way I read that you can run it from 3 18650 and/or two if you build a voltage divider to lie to the balance charger that there is a third battery in place.

Anyway the inside pictures just disappointed me for anything with a price tag that high.

Ah right right gotcha. Ah exciting times. Alas this bird is currently working in Singapore where vaping is banned. I was lucky enough to smuggle my mods and nicotine in. Gonna be a long time before I lay my grubby hands on these babies

No vaping in Singapore? I thought they were amongst some of the heaviest smokers in the world.

Word on the street is that it's a big source of revenue for the government, and they haven't figured out a way to effectively tax it.

But anyways. Shan't dilute this thread with my silly banter. Still have a ton to read up on this. :p
