Duffloop,

While it measured OK I would still be nervous about what looks like a solder bridge under the capacitor that bridges the output terminals.

I would take a small pin or exacto knife and try and remove that little solder splash that goes up the side of the inside terminal. With a razor blade or exacto knife you may be able to easily trim the splash so you don't have to worry about it causing problems down the road.

Just be careful not to put any force on the "surface mount capacitor" that is bridging the output terminals they can be kind of fragile.

cleaned the top off a bit but no way I'm getting under it - should be rite ;-)

That looks horrible... I mean, who puts a "floating" smd capacitor on two drops of solder joints?

Is that capacitor really needed?

Regards
Tony

Sent from my keyboard through my phone or something like that.

That capacitor is a guess to it's function. It could be to help round the pulse output to eliminate RF interference and/or when not loaded by a coil knock down high voltage spikes generated by the square wave pulses. "Just a guess" !!!

But I would definitely take an Exacto Knife to that piece of solder that is almost touching the other poll. My OCD wouldn't allow me to leave it.

16 wrap ni200 - 0.32ohms - works in normal mode

recognizes coil but temp protect kicks in instantly,

lowest = 7W

so in conclusion - a cheap 40w chip but no temp control
Sorry if i missed it but did you comment on the delay from standby and the delay from press of fire button to &/noise once awake.

startup delay is about twice as long as the real dna 40, but not really a prob, no delay on fire tho...

Thanks for the feedback Duffloop, one !ast question. How long til it goes into standby mode compared to the dna40?
Also thanks for beta testing for us , your videos on the chip made me laugh, i have had that kind of annoyance with Chinese electronics.

And my undestanding is that the Vapor Flask clones use the Kanngxin boards.

Dang, how many DNA 40 clones are there? Dam shame about your board, Dufloop. Are you going to send it back and try another one?

I've only seen those 2 standalone clone chips so far, desire e and cigabuy - but hard to know what's in the box mods that are available.

Nah - not worth sending it back, i was warned about cigabuy, but thought hey i need a cheapo chip for an FT enclosure so worth a bash. Gonna see if they can recompense me some other way - a discount maybe (not holding breath ;-) but 20 squid for a 40w chip ain't toooo baaad.

2 mins to standby as opposed to 1 for the real dna40 -

Though the real one fires up without delay and the clone has the 2 sec display of 'Hana Modz' before you can fire it, so the real one must take longer to go into real standby.

EDIT: you're not thinking of buying one are you?
