I'm struggling with the temp control/nickel build on my Hana DNA40 and Plume Veil v1.5. I can't really seem to get a dense, warm and flavorful vape. I'm using 30g Ni200 with 15 wraps, dual coil and it's giving me a .16 ohm resistance. Wicked with Japanese cotton. I get decent vapor production but it's not nearly as flavorful or dense as my Kanthal builds on that same atty or others and it's a very cool vapor. I've tried setting the temperature everywhere from 410 degrees to 470 degrees and the wattage from 25w to 40w. The vapor will warm somewhat when I use a high wattage setting but it never reaches what if call a warm vape; and flavor is still pretty muted.

So, I've read people's posts that seem to indicate that they're trying to find a setting that doesn't engage the temp control; and that's confusing me. Isn't it "all about the temp control" with the dna 40? I mean, I would think that you'd set the temp you want and ramp the wattage all the way up to 40w and let the temp control part of the chip do all the work. Am I wrong? Can someone with more knowledge explain how to properly use the temp control? Maybe that'll help me in my search for a flavorful vape with a mickle build

Temp. Limit would be more accurate. I have had my rDNA 40 since December and am still tweaking some things. I usually set my temp limit from 350 to 390 and my watts from 11 to 18. My rig is a glitched one... waiting for my new so as to rma the first.
Any how... lot of beta testers here -

and saw this when looking for the above -

Most of the DNA 40 threads seem to be here -
Variable Voltage APV Discussion

Many do as you have tried. Some leave the watts and play with the temp. Some like me set temp and adjust watts. It takes quite a bit of fiddling for me and others. I am having fun now... had to get some emergency liquid while waiting for my order to come in the mail...

Good luck, wish I could be more help!

Have you tried any higher than 470 to see if you get closer to a vape temp you enjoy?

When the chip detects the set temperature has been reached it starts to throttle the wattage up and down (sometimes down as low as 1w) to maintain the temp/not exceed it.

People try to avoid this throttling by tuning their setup/build (wicking/airflow) to reach very near the temp limit but never exceed it (ie cause the chip to throttle down) during the duration of the draw, thus maximizing performance while still having temp limits in place.

Personally, I think nickel builds suck for drippers. Even a little single coil in a tugboat falls waaay short. However, I've never had a kayfun perform better than a k4 with a nickel build and a dna40 set at 18w and 480 degrees.

I've tried several builds on my Lemo but I had all sorts of difficulties with it and a lousy vape. When I get a chance, I'm going to break out the drill and twist up some 30g nickel along with some twisted nickel AND kanthal and experiment with them. The more I read, the more those seem to be the solution to a great vape with nickel and the DNA 40.

It's really disappointing that Evolve touted this chip and it's abilities without producing a LOT of helpful videos and build suggestions. Im sure there's some great liability reasons but it sure would have been nice to have a LOT more practical info and advice for working with nickel and this chip. How hard would it have been to produce 15-20 build tutorials, for 5-10 of the most popular attys, that are relatively bomb proof and successful. Seems like they dropped it into the marketplace to see what other people could do with it. Never expected to struggle like I have to get a reasonable vape - kanthal never gave me such trouble.
