Do Not Order "Free Trials"!!!

They will suck you in with the offer of free goods. Then, once they have your credit card number, you're hooked. After the 'trial period' expires they will charge your card for the device. Usually charging way more than the device is selling for elsewhere.

Moderators: Can we get a sticky on this subject? It doesn't have to be this post, but this warning should be one of the first things prospective new users see. These scammers are giving the whole industry a bad name.

AMEN to that, i thought they were scams when i first saw them before i even got into this stuff..

stay far far away

I had not heard of an e-cigarette until I stumbled on to a web link for the Knight Stick's free trial offer. Fortunately, my experience with them turned out fairly well and I am still using their product.

To begin with, I know how this type of offer works and I knew that they would not be free. I also knew that an explanation of how the offer works is not usually available until after the checkout begins. I found that out easy enough, but not until they had my name and telephone number.

Now about the deal. In my ignorance, a kit for about 100 bucks did not sound all that bad, but I did not like the monthly charges for refills. That's when I backed out of the site and forgot about them. That is, until the telephone rang the next day.

The gal who called was polite and I told her why I did not follow through on the offer. She told me that they also sold the kits without the monthly deal, and that I could buy one for about 50 bucks. Not only that, but 10 refill cartridges would be included in addition to those in the kit, giving a total of 12. That sounded reasonable enough and I took her up on the offer. But then, maybe part of the reason was that she was so nice that an old man like me just had to buy something from her.

Well, the thing worked OK, even though I did not care much for the taste. It was also too strong, since I have been puffing on ultra lights ever since they became available. My fear was that I would get hooked on the strong nicotine again after being on the pacifiers all those years. Thankfully, I found out right away that other brands were available and that some of them could be refilled with different amounts of nicotine, ranging from non to high.

So I bought a few other brands and do you know what? They did not work as well as the Knight Sticks. They were 3 part refillable types and I sent them back for a refund. This was after I learned how to refill the 2 part Knight Sticks.

My wife was also a smoker, so now we have enough stuff to keep us both from burning up those analog suckers. All orders were made over the phone and I bought another kit for the same price as the original. Extra batteries are priced way too high. But then, the price was reduced when I said, "Oh goodness. I wasn't expecting to pay that much for a battery."

What I have said does not mean that I recommend this brand, nor does it mean that I do not try out others. I tried my son's e-cigar a few days ago and liked it so well that I have one on order. I suppose all I'm trying to say is that at least one person in the world does not regret checking out a free offer. Of course, any normal person might think that I am an old fart who is a sucker for a gal with a sweet sounding voice.

My first clue that these are a scam was when I clicked several links from a "reviews" site and they all came up with the same free trial offer page, that made me confirm that I wanted to close the tab. I don't trust any "automatic subscription" anything. I've had friends get hooked in on the magazine ones and go through a total nightmare to get thier money back and get them to stop taking money off the card. Anybody that wants to automatically take money out of my account (this includes the insurance company) gets a firm "not in a million years" from me. You get too many hands in the cookie jar that way. My hands are the only ones allowed to touch my cookie jar.lol

i have found this to be true in the mall kiosk in my area also. they charge $35 for a 10 ml bottle of 18 mg juice and $15 for a new atty. i was unfortunate enough to buy one f their kits for $180 before i stumbled upon this forum and the plethora of excellent suppliers found herein. thanks for all the great advice and tips.

Might want to read the fine print. I saw one offer of a Risk Free* Trial. Find out what the asterisk means. Under their terms and conditions for the free trial, you have to return it within 14 days (of ordering, these 14 days includes shipping time), or you will be charged the ~100 bucks and be signed up to receive additional carts every month for a ~$30 charge. You can cancel this 'subscription' but after the 14 days you have to pay for the e-cig.

These "free trials" may be misleading, but I wouldn't call them a scam. Of course, it might depend on where you got it from. I personally wouldn't order a free trial that I found in my junk mail folder <EOM>

Some people don't learn no matter how many times you try to tell them.

My dads girlfriend ordered one off the TV It ended up not having any nicotine in it. Took forever for her to get a refund.

I don't feel all that bad for her tho cause I told her over and over again DO NOT ORDER OFF THE TV OR RADIO... to call me when she was ready to order and I would send her links to good sites.

I fell for the free trial and actually ordered before doing any research because it looked ligit at first and I was anxious to try it. It bothered me all day while we were out on the bike and when I got home I finally did some research and canceled straight away thankfully that was on a Sunday so they hadn't sent it out and I made sure to call and confirm the cancellation the next day. I'm glad I was able to cancel with no problem. I did find a great company and have been smoke free going on 2 months. I love vaping.

It was one of these "trials" that resulted in me finding ECF- My mother ordered 1 for my sis but then I found the fine print and she canceled and sent it back, so far no new charges on her card but still being vigilant.

I was not aware of how many different companies are out there doing this until I came here.

This happened to me too. I stumbled upon a "scam site" and got all the way to entering my credit card number but changed my mind when I read of extra charges etc...HOWEVER, it did lead to me researching more into eCigs...and it has been the best thing to ever happen to me (health wise). I have since convinced some loved ones to convert and it is spreading like wildfire (wild vapor).

Paypal seems best bet when ordering online

Unfortunately Paypal does not allow any e-cig related purchases. You'll find that almost all e-cig suppliers/vendors do not offer Paypal as an option to pay for anything you order. Paypal has an "anti-ecig" policy.

There are a few vendors (like directly from China) that you can order from and use Paypal. Just never use any comments that the purchases are for any e-cig parts or liquids.

I have made several purchases from TW using Paypal, I didn't know they were anti e-cig's.
