the only protested 3V 16340(this is the size of CR123a,16mmX34mm o shape)are
the tenergy 900mAh blue batts, you can get them form batteryjunction in the US
you will need the special charger that goes with it though,
imho its better to go with the 750mAh lifepo4 gray and yellow tenergy batts though
they maybe not protected but the lifepo4 chemistry doesnt explode, they need the special charger too

I ended up getting the Tenergy RCR123a 3v at 900 mAh. They should last a little longer than the 750 mAh.

Tenergy RCR123A 3.0V 900mAh Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery

Although now that I look at it agian...the LifePO4's don't claim to be protected...but they kind of are protected. They claim to never catch fire or explode. I hope I can change my order. I'll call batteryjunction as soon as they open this morning and see if I can make the change.

Thanks a bunch for letting me know about these.

you need to read up of the batt threads here, most batts are way overated
all the ultras/trust/spider whatnots claiming 700mAh + are really only 600~
they do that buy adding the 0V to 2.7V that are not usable on any lion batt
the usable mAh of any 3.7V lion is from 2.8V to 4.2V
for 3V lions it from 2.2 to 3.4
lifepo4s are stabler so you can charge them up to 3.6V ith the special charger
you can still damage them by charging them in a 3.7V charger or by using them below 2.2V, they just wont explode

Whichever of the battery sites is actually tenergy used to have the coupon code 'tenergydeals' which gave free shipping on orders over $25 or $30. I just can't remember which of the US battery sites is actually tenergy's retail site.

Sage advice. Looks like i'll be doing some research since I really need to know more about batteries if I'm going to do this right. Fortunatly, I was able to talk to Battery Junction before they processed my order. I traded in the batteries on the first order for the LifePO's. I'm really glad that got mentioned in this thread. It really helped me out a lot.

i ordered mine from all-battery.com

I got 6 Tenergy LiFePO4 3v 750mAh bats and a charger for $27 shipped to my door. Use 'tenergydeals' and get free shipping. I have been very pleased with them.

If you want to go a different route- go to your local radioshack and they have digital camera battery kits on clearance. I randomly came across the deal at my radioshack- they have 2 RCR123a 3v 400mAh bats and a chrager for $9.xx. I ended up buying the last 3 kits. At the time I was waiting on my Tenergy LiFePO4 bats to be shipped and was buying surefire throw-away bats at lowes for $6 for 2. I was a little bit worried about the 400mAh rating- but really can't tell much difference. The radioshack kits work great and they have everything you need for less than 10bucks.

Looking at the site, it says that the Smart Charger for the 750mAh battery is not compatible with the 900mAh battery and vice versa, but the chargers look identical and I can't see any difference. Is this a marketing ploy to get you to buy both chargers?

Rechargeable Batteries & Battery Chargers - Smart Charger for RCR123A 3.0V 750mAh Li-ion rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable Batteries & Battery Chargers - Smart Charger for RCR123A 3.0V 900mAh Li-ion rechargeable Batteries

Does any one have both the 750mAh & 900mAh batteries but only bought one charger?
If so, does the charger work with both types of batteries?

Thanks.

do not charge the 750s in the 900 and visa versa
the two batts are different chemistry witch means different charging voltage ends
the 900s are lion and really are only 3.7Vs that have a FET that drops the current down to 3.2 in 2ms
the charger for that battery takes that into account when it charges , so you cant even use the ultra fire chargers( well you can the WF-138 set on 3.6 will get the batt to 60~80% of the total charge)
the 750s are lifepo4 chemistry ,they need a charger that will cut off at 3.6V not 3.4V that a 3V lion would need, never ever charge an unprotected lion in the lifepo4 charger or it will explode
you could theoretically charge the lifepo4s in a lion 3V charger ut sinse they cut off at 3.4 you would only get 80% of the total charge
