Of doing some sort of illegal drugs while vaping? My daughter's friend was catching a ride home with us, and I heard them whispering furiously in the back, turns out she was asking my kid if I was smoking crack in the drivers seat! A few people at work have really had comments about my new tank/cartomizer as well, thinking it looks like something to smoke the herb!

WTF? I need to read the comebacks thread, maybe I can stun them into submission!

This is why I don't vape (and didn't smoke) in front of my kids or their friends. We know it's relatively harmless and a positive alternative to smoking, but you can't expect everyone to understand, especially kids. They see you put something to your mouth and blow out something that looks like smoke.

I'm a fairly senior engineer at a large, conservative, corporation. I started vaping at work immediately after stopping smoking. I'm supposed to be able to interpret corporate policies, ours is pretty clear that it's aimed at burning tobacco, so I didn't even ask my manager (that would have forced him to go uphill to HR, giving people a chance to say "no" out of ignorance).

I vape in my office all the time, and at internal staff meetings, don't do so during client meetings. I'll vape in the halls, though not on manufacturing floors. My peers all know what it is, and other than kidding from people I've known for over 15 years (honest jokes), I haven't heard a peep from anyone. It probably doesn't hurt that my all-day vape smells a bit like vanilla custard

I'll also vape out in the wild, in stores and at restaurants. I'm not trying to be "flashy" about it, not exaggerated or blowing huge clouds of vapor, just treating it as an acceptable, legal, thing to do. On the extremely rare occasions where I get a question, I explain what it is, a personal vaporizer that replaces an old smoking habit.

In my defense, my daughter is 14 and her friend is 15. I have always smoked in front of both my kids, so now I'm quitting smoking in front of them too. Thanks for the advice!

To tell you the truth, sometimes when the liquid that I am vaping is really delicious, I myself have the feeling of doing something illegal! I kept saying to myself "OK, you can do that, this satisfaction is OK for you to have". I have spent so much time trying to convince myself to quit smoking (which was something that was giving me pleasure) that even now, I can't believe that this new pleasure is legal and permissible

I was vaping at a campsite last summer with a group of people.....After 3 days I had some stupid woman approach me and say she doesnt appreciate me doing drugs in front of her kids.....Seriously WTF is wrong with that lady it took her 3 days to confront someone she "Thought was doing drugs" next to her kids......Great parenting I say

I've also had only positive experiences. I have had people ask if I'm doing some kind of drug though, I just tell them what it is and pretty much everyone has said cool, and congrats on not smoking. I've also found that most people are just currious.

I use this contraption. If anyone dares to say anything negative, I put my finger on the button and say "When the light goes on, you have three seconds." It helps that the carto crackles a bit.

I have to agree. My nephew's son heard me refer to my mini as a battery and he wanted to use it for one of his toys so I did explain to him...... Smoking is bad for you I am using this to quit & never, ever start smoking. But I would not Vape in front of his friends and I try not to Vape in front of children. It is hard to explain the difference to them.

It happens all the time to me, as a hippie people have their preconceived notions -- not that most of them aren't correct!!! Yeah, the kids want to know how I modded the awesome hitter, cops give me the stink-eye, and some ask me why I'm doing drugs in public (as they think the illegal ones are more immoral than the legal ones, a discussion for another time) but I educate, educate, educate, and 99% are impressed that I was able to quit gretzkys after 29 years!!!

Personal vaporizers are used to vaporize ... and Hash oil. There are drug users that do illegal things with products very similar to the ones we know and love.

I admire the reasoning and the positive values of the people who said that they don't vape and didn't smoke in front of their kids and applaud them for that. But, alas, for me, it was/is different since I never make/made an attempt to hide what I did/do. I wish my little 'uns (1.5 and 3 years old) lived in a perfect world but they don't.
Once, back in the day as a smoker, I went on a church retreat for a weekend where they had a (yes, one) bench marked out on a 50 acre spread including castle where 'people who simply couldn't refrain' could smoke. I was the lone visitor to that bench for 3 days (two others who smoked were so shamed that they hid or went off the grounds). My logic then - and now - was/is 'if I have to sneak around to do something and feel bad/criminal/sinful or whatever about it while doing it, then I must truly be doing something wrong and, consequently, I should question my choice to continue with that action. I can't live like that so I am always completely obvious about whatever I am doing. Smoking was bad but I was open about it. Vaping is good, so...
