I've managed to get 3 others hooked onto the e-cig and they all did well for a while. 2 of the 3 are back on death stix, one fully and the other uses the PV when he feels too lazy to go outside. I'm feeling a sense of personal failure that they didn't stick to it, like i should have done or said something that might have made them stay away from the analog. Anybody else feel like that or is it just me?

I think you're being too hard on yourself. There could be a number of reasons it just didn't "stick" for them from the lazyness you mentioned all the way to their brain chemistry and the fact they could be dependent on the other alkoloids in tobacco besides just the nicotine. You did your part; the rest is up to them.

I switch back in forth between ecigs and real cigs at will. I consider this a benefit of vaping. One can smoke an occasional cigarette and not worry about being back on two packs a day in less than a week. This should be good news to smokers. But they do have to see me doing this for a long period time.

Any cig avoided is a plus. At least they know there are such things if they later think about getting off cigs. As a DIY person, I brew a few different mixes for people trying to use ecigs, depending on how they feel with "generic" liquid. I vary flavor, PG/VG, strength. If it's not for them, so be it.

APD, kudos on encouraging others to vape instead of smoke! My wife and I have smoked for years, and always talked about quitting. We did the mall kiosk e-ciggies a couple of years ago, and went back to the analogs. After rediscovering ECF and seeing all of the new and evolved PVs out there, we got back in. She still hits an analog now and then, and I kind of scratch my head on why.

I guess I'm the cheerleader of the family. I'm excited, as I haven't picked up an analog since I finished my last pack, nor have I wanted to. I'm the one that's excited about this new lifestyle change. The wife? Meh... she vapes, but doesn't relish the vaping, as many on this site do. Me? It looks like smoking, feels like smoking, but without the smell and killer chemicals. The nic is getting into my system, and I can do without an analog. I LOVE vaping! She doesn't have quite the same love affair.

Different strokes, I guess. She has made her pack last two weeks, which is positive, and I don't begrudge her when she does smoke. But it is weird, and sometimes it feels like failure when someone else doesn't respond in exactly the same way. But, I know that as long as she continues vaping, the analogs will go away. I look at the immediate reduction as a success, and the eventual burial of analogs as complete victory!

Keep up the good work! I'm going to Vegas next month, and will be demonstrating the PV to some of my co-workers, BIG TIME. It'd be nice to see them switch over.

There are a surprising number of people I have found who just don't want to quit very badly if it inconveniences them in the slightest. Me personally I would be vaping if it tasted like cow crap as long as it got me off analogs. Another observation I've made is that older people are quicker to adopt ecigs. My explanation is that they see cancer and lung diseases on a short event horizon while the very young see it as some future event in their old age. Thinking cigarettes are going to kill you soon is a powerful reason to seek alternatives with more of an open mind.

I suppose you're right it's just that when I tried to quit a few years ago cold turkey, my support network consisted of people throwing analogs at me because they couldn't stand to be near me. It wasn't untill I found e-cigs and ECF that I really felt a support base that could understand that it's damn hard to give up the stick. Alcoholics get AA, interventions, and rehab. Drug addicts get NA, interventions, and rehab. Smokers get yelled at and told that they should just put the effing thing down.

I know how you feel. I'm currently trying to get a friend/co-worker to quit and at least give vaping a try. I see her doing it but not sticking to it. Her idiot son doesn't think you get nic from ecigs. I provided him wrong when he got sick from 36mg that I let him try (yes I was being mean because he was talking his mom out of trying ecigs). After his dizziness passed, I asked him just what he thought caused it? His reply was, "A nic high?" Duh.....birdbrain!

My best friend has already had a triple bypass but the only one he tried was those danged Blus; I am very worried for him every day but I tried but my effort doesn't make me feel any better, I know he'll die too young. I'm like 1 for 10 on others' quitting......but I'll keep plugging away trying to help the relatives.........

    Been there, doing that!

One thing I've noticed with those I encourage and let test my equipment, most, if not all, buy cigs by the pack. They don't think past their pocket change. A decent PV starter kit is le$$ than a carton or two of analogs, but they only $ee the initial outlay.

We can only try to educate... they have to decide.

I stayed on the analogs for 3 years after a heart attack .. :( .. even though my cardiologist preached to me as well as family members, etc .. in fact, I lit a cig within minutes of leaving the Hospital ..

My mind finally got right and I believe that's what it takes .. you must be mentally ready to quit .. and, have a good e-cig at your disposal ..

I'll totally agree with that. For me it was when the wife got preg with our second. I decided that if I wanted to be a grandfather someday that it was tome for the analogs to take a hike. Maybe it's just me wanting to be cool again. It was cool to start smoking 16 years ago, now it's cool to not smoke. Damnit I just want to be cool again!!!

I understand what you're saying. I don't know if I feel so much failure, but disappointment that the e-cig habit didn't take hold.

@ Dave: Good for you that you can switch. I would love to be able to do this as well. I really miss the analogs. I know myself well enough that I would be up to a pack and a half in a week.:(
