Hi,

Been trying to look a little into DIY, and all the posts/guides I've read through talk a lot about things like specific flavors, concentrations, and equipment.

I had just have a question, though it may be obvious.

Do you just mix everything together all at once, and let it steep?

Are you supposed to heat it? Mix in a certain order? Filter it? Anything else I should be aware of, other than just throwing it all into a bottle and shaking it?

Thanks

Any order works, though I start with the nic base then cap it and put it on the side.

No magic, toss the stuff in, then shake it. On some simple mixes, including most of my flavored tobacco blends, they'll be fine right away. Caramel cappuccino I give a week of steeping, a three flavor vananaberry I give two weeks.

I measure out my nic into a graduated glass tube, and add it last to my mix, just in case I make a mistake with other ingredients. Everything is measured into the bottle: PG, VG, flavors. Then the nic goes in last. The reason I do this is because the nicotine liquid is the most expensive part of the mix; and if I happened to screw up along the way, at least I haven't wasted the nic if I have to start over.
I steep tobacco juices at least 2 weeks. Non tobacco types, 2 or 3 days minimum.

So if I get a 24mg nic 250ml bottle of 50pg/50vg from wizard labs I can just add 9.5ml of it to .5ml of flavoring and shake it up and then add more flavor if I need to and it would turn out to be around 23mg strength juice? Would it be that simple? I'm trying to comprehend this DIY thing and it's overwhelming. Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I thought my question was similar.

All done with a variety of syringes and droppers with 1/4ml markers. I do tests with drops (~1ml total after flavouring), just to approximate combinations. After a first sampling right away I'll make adjustments, make a 5ml to steep 1 week at least. If it's still good in a week I'll do a larger 30ml batch nonic-nic-flavour, purely due to equipment on hand (only one syringe that can reach down the larger base bottles). Then I put it through a stress test, vape it a whole day minimum, generally it's okay by this point so I just jot notes of minor adjustments next time around if I bother with that combo.

For new flavors I use small 5 ml batches, and when I am not satisfied with that. I'll try it again but in plain PG drop by drop and taste.

For bigger batches, i just make a premix PG/VG/Nicotine level and then add my flavor (I do not care if my juice turns out 11.9mg or 10.8mg)
Most of my flavors are very concentrated, and adding 4 drops wont make my nic level drop that much. But in case it drops I do not care

Everyone will have a different mixing technique. There is no wrong order to assemble your ingredients. A few tips I have picked up and incorporated into my personal DIY regimen are:
-Bookmark and read the tutorials for an ejuice calculator. I like ejuicemeup.
-Have whatever recipe you will use ready. If you are making your own concoctions or tweaking other recipes you have found, take notes!!!
As I'm sure you have read, you may invent an absolutely delicious concoction and never be able to replicate it due to not having made detailed notations of your work.
-Mix on a flat uncluttered space ,without distraction .Have only the stuff you need for the recipe you are working on in front of you.If you are distracted in anyway(children, pets, spouse, telephone, whatever) you could at least lose your place and forget what you have added or at worst get very sick (or worse) if working with very high nicotine levels and double or triple nic amounts due to distraction.
-Develop your own system for the order you want to add ingredients .There is no right or wrong here. I set my stuff in front of me and as I use each ingredient,I put the cap on and set the bottle on an adjacent table. This is MY cue that I have already added said ingredient.
-Treat all your mixing stuff ,especially nicotine as hazardous i.e. absolutely make sure children , pets and for that matter anyone other than yourself cannot access as they probably have no tolerance to nicotine and become very ill or die from nicotine exposure.

Re-read that last one . It is not hyperbole.A personal tragedy is easily averted by being cautious. You can use a toolbox with a padlock or whatever you choose . Just be safe and have fun. I like to use syringes for repeatability though they aren't necessary per se.

In short, I just typed all that to say , yes ,just mix it up . That's really it. Anyone can do it . Just don't think it is easy to make great juice.
I mean, making juice is easy, making great juice is a lot of trial and error.

Thats just 100% true, it takes a while. At the start I almost gave up, since I could get nothing correct with measuring like 0.25ml. Then I switched to just plain drops and the wonderfull world up good DIY juice opened up
