I myself feel that its not illegal, provided u r vaping with a correct model PV. and also i feel vaping shldnt be illegal at all.. consider the vapor we r blowing out is not harmful to the environment and to anyone around us.In fact we r been green to the environment without releasing pollutant to the air :)

But you are not paying any tobacco tax to you-know-who so it's not green to them... :p

No No NO.. PV and E-cig are not tobacco products, it doesnt contain any tobacco, it only resemble a tobacco product..thats y the authories dont know how to tax this thing.. if really 1 2 talk abt tax.. then tax on electronic gadget is more appropriate.

I would presume the tobacco taxation is very profitable. Truth is, even if prices increase in cigarettes, the buying pattern will not change. Smoking is not easy to "cut down" for the more season smokers right?

I think because of these, there is a mass ban on e-cig and similar products, Singapore or not.

I'm not a statistic guy, but many smokers I know smokes because of the habit. Not the nicotine properties. It's that bad habit, much like digging nose or walking with a hand in the pocket, that made me a smoker. I tried to quit for 3 months, realised I'm not addicted to the cigarette (no redrawer syndrome whatsoever), but it's like this little action that is missing.

Imagine the impact on the sales if the e-cig and such has greater success in "switching", not so much to quit.

$200 worth of investment on PV or e-cig easily covers my 1 year of intake doesnt it? Compare to $300 a month...

I don't see why vaping is illegal other than as mentioned tax money. Govt should start to open their mind and accept things that will benefit the society. For a start, this will surely benefit secondary smokers. If they feel there is danger or hazard regarding this, they should do a thorough test on this and see if there is anything that is bad rather than simply making it illegal. I really don't believe by allowing this will make kids starts to pick up smoking. Generally, it's up to the parents and education system to make things work.

This is where the grey area comes in. The defination "resemble" itself is ambiguous. Shape? Function of the device? They can say all sorts of things. Anyway, alot of things are dangerous. It all depends on how responsible the user is using it. Normal E-cig is prohibited as it resembles "shaped" like analog ciggie. A PV have different shapes and sizes which is not resembling a normal ciggie but it functions like one... So? They can catogorize this as "function/resemble" a ciggie = fake tobacco/ciggie..

Shisha is banned because the "instrument" used when the user inserts a different "tobacco". When we vape, the law needs to check if it contains different "liquid" other than e-liquid? I think this is their concern besides the TAX income.. Since e-liquid is odourless, some controlled items also odourless but they will not let out vapour since it is "precious"... Go figure... :D

They're talking about banning them in New York because they're not FDA aproved. Are cigs FDA aproved? If so, I didn't know that.
I think when they find a way to make some money on this stuff the GOV will give it the "OK" stamp. Last I heard, America was a free country. You need to convince me of that one. Maybe they should say "Semi-free" country

How can it be ilegal? If they say this 'resembling tobacco/ciggie' device is going to encourage underage pple to pick up smoking, then they should ban ciggie too... If they can enforce age limit to purchase ciggie, same way can be done to e-cigs...

So the reason they ban e-cig, is bu11s41t...!

Don't want to part with tobacco tax income, just say so la...

Okok... Tobacco tax alone brought in SG$917mil for 2011 alone. The tobacco sales and advertistment act is a statute. Which means that it is up to the interpretation of authority in charge. Which means we're screwed. If juice is defined as a tobacco substitute, we are screwed also as the Act has a clause prohibiting tobacco substitutes.

I would rather pay higher GST than to support majority of the population with my analogs taxes.
