Do you worry? Long term effects?

There is, but good news takes more time to be disseminated. Bad news hits the media in a heartbeat.

Yup. "If it bleeds, it leads" And probably "if it dies, it flies." I think the thing to keep in mind is that nowadays, the media has ZERO interest in actually informing anyone of anything; the news is NOTHING but a vehicle to sell advertising and disseminate the owner/editor's own personal opinions.

If the media had any real interest in informing people of anything, then we (vapers) should be able to get 60 Minutes, or Geraldo, or someone like that, to expose the massive bias against vaping/e-cigarettes that's being given all the air-time. Why HAVEN'T those kinds of muckrakers picked this up?? I'd really love to know, but I suspect I do know: they only want to sell ads, not actually inform or expose.

Sad. In a country with a supposedly "free press," there is no such thing: it's owned by the massive conglomerates, and will report only what the moguls tell them to report.

I find it insane the media slams ecigs because of skepticism (falsely placed IMO if you look for quality in what you buy) when the normal cigs have been proven to cause everything from bad smell and yellow teeth to illness and death.

I cant help but force ecigs on my friends and loved ones who smoke, like someone who just found religion lol they're the future for me and i'm not worried one bit!

I agree, I get the urge to buy every sick looking piece of vape paraphernalia that hits the market!

Yeah - here ya, but in the past 3 month's, we have "saved" over $500 in analong cost, probabaly $1500 or more over the past 10 months during which we "mostly" vaped. I budget about $25 - $40 per month for "paraphernalia". Added to the $100 for juice per month, we still save about $250 per month versus analogs now that we are 100% vaping v. smoking.

Same here, smoking 15-41 (ok ok 42). Smokeless too. I did a lot of research before jumping tooo far in. I'm one of those people that trusts nothing 'official'/'authoritative'/etc, so I was ready to question anything out there anyway. With watching build parts and ingredients I can't find anything detrimental above heavy inhaler use (rare cough now/then from build up, harmless), and I've read lots of testimonies like the ones here about that. I don't cough nearly as much as I used to either, and on just 1/2 pack a day I would cough up 'stuff'. My lungs acted funny w/vaping at first, they reacted for a while like it was cigarettes, but once they realized it wasn't carrying tar and all the other wack stuff it's died down to almost nothing.

Same here. But I'm still trying to convince my mother that I'm NOT "still smoking!" banghead.gif

I do have some concerns, enough that once I am sure I won't go back to smoking I would like to try to give up vaping, but I can't say I worry about it and I won't worry if I can't get off vaping.

What concerns me is the flavorings. They are approved for ingestion, NOT vaporization and inhalation. To give an example of the difference I knew a guy who worked in a coffee powdered creamer factory and the dust was such you couldn't see from one end of the building to the other. The creamer was safe to eat, but not to breath. He was terminal from COPD last I knew, and that was in 2001.

That's not to say I think cigarettes are as safe. Vaping is "safer", in my layman's opinion. I have COPD and feel a lot better since I started transitioning off cigarettes three weeks ago and laid them down six days ago. I am on oxygen and and use a nebulizer four times a day. That said I haven't wheezed, except for when I was using a high PG juice, since I quit. I have the full approval of both my family doctor and oncologist. I am only 38, but have been a pack and a half a day smoker since age 13 so that's 25 years. At this point I do inhale deeply while vaping as I need to match the cigarette experience to keep from smoking. Eventually I will quit that.

Not compared to this

What in tobacco smoke is harmful?

Cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobacco are made from dried tobacco leaves, as well as ingredients added for flavor and to make smoking more pleasant. The smoke from these products is a complex mixture of chemicals produced by the burning of tobacco and its additives. The smoke is made up of more than 7,000 chemicals, including over 60 known to cause cancer (carcinogens). Some of these substances cause heart and lung diseases too, and all of them can be deadly. You might be surprised to know some of the chemicals found in tobacco smoke include:
• Cyanide
• Benzene
• Formaldehyde
• Methanol (wood alcohol)
• Acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches)
• Ammonia

Tobacco smoke also contains tar and the poison gases carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. The ingredient that produces the effect people are looking for is nicotine, an addictive drug and one of the harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke.

The tobacco leaves used in making cigarettes and cigars contain radioactive materials; the amount depends on the soil the plants were grown in and fertilizers used. But this means that the smoke contains small amounts of radioactive material too, which smokers take into their lungs as they inhale. These radioactive particles build up in the lungs, and over time can mean a big dose of radiation. This may be another key factor in smokers getting lung cancer.

Well....I switched to American Spirits (no chemicals = no buzz (high). Six months after smoking American Spirits plus vaping at work I finally said " I am ready". Done!! I have smoked cigarettes since I was 15 and I am now 41...this was a HUGE change!! Once I said it and ordered not one but two itaste (svd and mvp) I haven't looked back. The point is...those damn chemicals kept me hanging on. My bff hated my American Spirits because she didn't get the "buzz".
Vape on :vapor:

You didn't get a buzz off of American spirits, dang.

I used to smoke the black box exclusively for 2 years and got a buzz almost every time. My friends refused to bum off me because they were so strong. Had to switch to Marlboro because I couldn't afford the spirits anymore. Now I'm switching to vapor because I can't afford marlboros.

Even the air we breathe can be toxic. Adding cigarettes to the mix just complicates things. Compared to cigarettes the least danger IMO is vaping. Inhaling vapor is probably not beneficial to us, but it's much better than inhaling smoke. As I said before, I'm trying to make myself not inhale deeply just because I sense some irritation if the clouds are huge and I hit it heavily.

Using ecigs that produce a lighter vapor stream is probably good. The nic can be adjusted to satisfy, even with a light vapor stream. I'm not so sure about sub ohm vaping and creating room filling clouds. The point of vaping is to get away from cigarettes or anything that can harm the lungs or the body.

I feel my body healing so I just knoq ecigs are better than cigarettes. I don't take a puff and worry that I am going to have a stroke or heart attack at any givin moment. I do wonder about what the long term effects might be but I just think about those that have been using an ecig for 3-4 years already and they are fine. If there is a long term effect I am sure it will happen when at a ripe old age. I don't feel I am dying of an early death because my body feels heathy.

I smoked 48 years so I am probably done for anyway and until I tried a silly ad on the computer for v2 cigs I never had any idea of quitting. My life was changed after that order and has been uphill since. I used to spend a week or more in bed every change of the seasons with bronchitis and pneumonia. That went on for years. Since I quit cigarettes I haven't had so much as a cold in over 2 years. Whether it be ecigs or just quitting smoking is yet to be determined but so far my chances are looking pretty good. I not only feel better I am saving money....well if I could quit buying the latest and greatest new gadget.

I've said it more than a few times -- as many others have -- but I haven't gotten sick since I started vaping. I've been on the brink of few times, but it never really materialized. I used to get sick at least once a year, which wasn't a lot, but without fail I did get sick at least once a year.

I tell ya', while the "researchers" are still trying to find out how "safe" vaping is (I am no longer going to refer to vaping as using "ecigs"), I think they also may need to look into why vaping is also, possibly, inhibiting many of us from getting sick. Obviously this is not across the board, but I've seen enough claims of it, coupled with my own experience, to think there's something to it.

Propylene glycol has both antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Antibacterial and antifungal properties o... [Acta Derm Venereol. 1991] - PubMed - NCBI

Is there a connection? I don't know, but I haven't had a cold in years. :D

I've seen that, and maybe lacing my lungs with PG is the result of it? That seems so freakin' strange, but what's even more strange is the Game of Thrones winter passing without me developing a real cold! That's been the case now since 2010.
