Does anyone still use carto tanks?

I love cargo tanks. Like other folks have said "they just work". However, like Bad stated, the QC just sucks. When you get a good one its a great vape. Just too many duds to keep fiddling with them. Ikenvape was on a roll for a while with some awesome cartos, but that just went out the window.

    ya know, that's plain silly!

I'v been using simple ole Boge cartos for over 4 years, and with exception of "Bogegate" ( January 2012). I have never once had a dud. NOT ONE ! ! ! Yes, that one production run after the Chinese New year really sucked, but that's been over for a long time now.

"Bogegate" was long over with before you even started vaping/posting here.

Agreed. I've only gotten maybe 1 bad one a year, highly expect user error on a few of those. :)

Funny how the newest and most popular tank ( Nautilus) is part carto. Funny how now people are finally taking that little bit to prime first. Funny how when they don't prime a Nauty correctly they don't blame China QC.

This just makes me sad for IBTanked. I really like them and the quality of their tanks. But I too found that using the carto got a bit cumbersome. I like building my stuff. It opens up my budget for more juice. That is about all i buy now a days. I do keep my eyes peeled for another VS Rdna30 but that will come in time.

A couple of years ago cartotanks were all that I used. I had at least 20 of them, each containing a different flavor. I was quite happy with them, although not always so happy with the quality control of the cartos that go in them. I had used Boge, Smoktech, and Ikenvape -- I preferred the Ikenvape Platinum.

I worked for a vape shop in 2014. I was the only employee who used cartotanks; the other employees hardly knew anything about them so they never sold any. My first couple of months I sold thousands of dollars in cartotanks according to my then store manager. After a couple of months there was a change in store management. I asked the new manager for some cartotank tools (carto punch tools and cartotank refilling tools) which I believed were essential for cartotank users and would help promote the sales of cartotanks in the store. Alas, new management wanted to take the store in a different direction -- rebuildables, as that was what was the new hot sellers.

Anyway, long story short, I began rebuilding myself as it was a requirement for my sales position. I stopped using cartotanks a year ago when setting up my last tank I got 5 bad cartos in a row. Personally, I'd had enough of the lack of carto quality.

I now use a rebuildable tank and drip atomizers exclusively. I don't have to depend upon the quality control of an underpaid Chinese factory worker. If my wick & coil build sucks, I have no one to blame but myself. It's cheaper, easier, and faster to rebuild than to use a cartotank. And the vape is argueably better, too.

There are still plenty of people who use cartotanks on this forum, although they are probably a dying breed. It's a shame, though. Many vape shops don't carry cartomizers any more. Some online venues are also discontinuing them. The carto & tank sub-forums here on ECF are almost dead. Some might say that people who learn how to use cartotanks correctly don't post much because they never have problems.

If you like to build, a Sophia in a carto tank is about as good as vaping gets once you find your sweet spot build / wicking method IMO.
I prefer Phiniac tanks, just personal opinion I've only broke one, I've broke all my Ibtanked.
My stuff has to suvive severe duty, most folks will never break either one.

I'm very very curious about those rebuildables that can be used in a cartotank; are all of them expensive? The few I've looked at were way out of my budget -- aren't there any clones along those lines?

The only ones I've used are the diver, diver v2 and Sophia.
I prefer the Sophia, I wouldn't trust / buy a clone / knock off rebuildable carto. Machining accuracy & finish is critical to proper function.

The SMOK Terminator is a submersible atomizer like the Diver, Killer, and Sophia. I found it to be a bit wobbly, but it worked the same. You typically need to join resistance and non-resistance wire that can be a pain to build, but you can reuse your cartomizer tanks. I don't know if they sell them any more but the individual atomizers were about the same price as cartomizers (a 5-pack for like $10). I saw a bunch in the Classifieds this week.

Hmmm... the R-NR stuff might be beyond my skills... but didn't I see that FT sells some coils like that?

Have to agree. Broke every ib tanked, while over screwing. Still have all the phiniacs, that have been dropped on cement.

Not sure what's 'silly' about my post. Sorry if my opinion is off putting.

I have been so close many times to pulling the trigger on a Sophia, but like you the initial cost has put me off.

I just ordered another 22mm IBT. I really like these tanks, for the price I don't think you can go wrong.
The other day I had my Provari sitting on it's bottom on the bathroom sink counter, and I accidently tipped it over. The tank landed on the raised edge of the porcelain sink, no problem.
