Does it bother you when people expect you to do all the legwork?

I sure don't mind helping out. My desire to give a (rear exit substance) ends where people try to make it so that it's my "fault" that they vape... and guilt trip me with some kind of poorly disguised slow-suicide-by-cig story if I don't make sure they got all they need in perfect working order... even if they bought a cig-a-like, which I have made very clear that I know nothing about, and strongly advised against.

Phew! /rant off

Some do, some don't. Mom asks a lot of questions, but she's older and, well, she's my mom. She's allowed.

Cousins, close and distant, descend on me at functions with questions. I don't mind that either.

People who I don't know who feel that it's my job in life to do their work for them...this I mind. My time is valuable. Please treat it as such.

Wow hope this thread doesn't scare new people on here away from asking questions

It's kind of implied that if we're here, we're willing to help. I, at least, am not going to hand-hold somebody who's clearly ignoring all advice (I'm sure you know who I'm talking about here, he/she posts a lot of threads and that's definitely not "Good News" for the forum).

But when I'm here, I'm entirely willing to assist in any way possible.

There is no possible help for that specific person smh lol

I sure hear ya. I've just started writing down the ECF Url for them... yeh, instead of saying: "Google ECF" cause I know their type. (No disrespect intended... just a fact.) But, I gotta say, the MOST annoying instances are the B&M VENDORS! A few months ago one wanted to hire me after picking my brain... if you're going to go into business, at least know something about what you're selling!... you're going to get a lot of noobs.....just sayin. I declined the offer and sent him to ECF too but I doubt he ever got here. Personally, I don't mind answering questions here at ECF though as these are folks trying to research and are motivated enough to show up here. When I feel burn out coming on, I just shut er down.

This is my main frustration here on ECF.

"Where can I find the cheapest ***** ?"

"I've never heard of the XYZ Mod, what does it look like?"

"What kind of replacement coil does the 123 tank take?"

GOOGLE IT YOURSELF! You could have found out the info yourself in the same time it took you to ask for others to do all the legwork for you.

Now it is different if one says " I have searched for **** and I can't find it. Anyone have a link?"

Ok, that's my rant.

I don't mind answering questions since this is still a relatively new technology that a lot of people may have only heard about. Usually, they've heard urban-legends so they need to unlearn all the malarkey first. One guy that believes everything he hears doesn't get anymore answers from me. He'll listen to the hype, then come to me like he made a huge discovery and regurgitate the IQ dropping bile he's picked up from some conversation that had to be as mentally stimulating as a turd floating in a sewer. That's cool man, stick with the cig's, I'm sure they're much better.

I get asked questions a lot too. My feelings are this...there is so much MIS information out there I would rather let them get the straight facts from someone who has done the leg work. in general too people are lazy why find out themselves when you are right there. I do encourage people to come to the forums and vape tv to get the info they need but helping them out a bit and correcting the mistakes is good for us as well

I just had to order my father in law vivi nova heads. But this just happens once in a blue moon.

Helped another friend of mine switch recently, and while sure i showed her some links and gave her some advice she ran with it and ordered a pile of sample sizes from ECB and some backup batteries and clearos. She just needed a gentle push and seems entirely capable of handling it from here.

I'll try to answer ECF questions, no matter how basic. I figure they are trying to vape, trying to find an answer, trying to quit smoking, likely having a nicotine fit because the %&#%& is leaking or not firing.....

Computers, on the other hand....my SO calls the commercial help lines before asking me....our past conservations have gone like:

"The computer isn't working"
"What did you do to it?"
"I didn't do anything..."
"What does the error say"
"I don't know, I turned it off..."

HP and Verizon help lines are lifesavers......

I don't mind any question on a forum, those people have at least looked for and found somewhere to get info. And frankly the search function of this forum returns way too many results if you are not very specific. I have searched for a few things and it's just too much.

I so agree with this. I was in the last wave of those who got to use the old search function here and was sooooo lucky. Whenever I do a search now its just irritating and I try to remember that when helping newcomers. Truly, I've started just Googling because the ECF posts I'm looking for will come up there with far fewer irrelevant links and is closer to the old search function.

between here and there
I have some friends and/or family who started vaping. People I know at work ask me about it. They all seem to want free and easy information and advice.

I really really hate when they ask me things that they could easily find out themselves if they were willing to look it up. And I hate when people ask me when I'm ordering stuff so they can tag on my order.

If you want to know how things work, look it up. If you want to know where the best prices are, do some research. If you want to know what's the best battery or juice for you, try a couple. If you want to know what kind of replacement coils go on your clearos, try google.

I realize that it's easy for other people to just ask me. But I feel like I know a lot of this stuff because I cared enough to do the research. Spend time learning. Ask questions. And I kind of resent when people seem to want to take the easy way out by taking advantage of the fact that I did that.

Am I being stupid or is it reasonable of me to feel like I'm being taken advantage of a little?

Yeah, that happened with me a lot when I was still working(retired now). So, I ended up ordering ECF cards from the ecf store and when they asked, I just handed them the card and told them that everything they ever wanted to know they could find by typing in the url on the card. It seemed to work, cause most of them never asked again. I think you only pay for shipping(at least when I ordered them you did). There is a link at the top of every ecf page to find the store.
Maybe they are only asking you because they don't know where to start?
Its worth a shot. imo

:)

Personally I love answering questions, suggesting hardware that might suit the inquirer's needs, providing information on where to get devices, liquids, etc, and in general helping people who are new to vaping. I asked questions when I started (and still do). The world of vaping can be overwhelming, and it's less intimidating if you can discuss all aspects of it with a friend rather than wading through massive amounts of information online that you can't know if it's reliable or not. I've become a (novice) hobbyist, but most people can't and shouldn't be expected to develop such a deep interest. For most it's simply about not smoking.
