Does it bother you when people expect you to do all the legwork?

Oh, I most definitely don't mind answering any question from a new Vaper in here and feel no question is a dumb one. This is a place where many people don't even know what to google for? Carts, clearos? Volts? MAh? I feel bad for them because I know how utterly confused I was at first, and there weren't near as many things to learn about and options when I started. I still have a hard time keeping up with the latest info and accessories to use. But my personal friends and family that I have excessively helped and given to and ordered for, I start backing off on them and force them to get their own stuff. Lol.

I love talking vape. I get all excited because I have a captive audience, but as far as other things... They need juice, I toss them a sample 5ml then sell them more if they like it. Not a big markup but enough to take the edge off my obsession. They need a carto, sure, give me 3 bucks and I will even fill it for you.

In RL...........sometimes you just got to say "I can't really help you" or "hmmm, well that's sure a stumper, get back to me if you figure it out". Or just say "No".
On a forum like this, you have a choice to assist peeps, but some will continue to repeat the same thing/question/in your face "that's not right"/argue about your answer kinda thing, and you have the option just to ignore them.

I learned at an early age that knowledge is power, in the sense that you can control more of your life and surroundings......and your $$$$.
It also makes you a target for people who want something for nothing. Been there, done that, got the coffee cup, bumper sticker AND the tattoo. Most of the trench work, electrical, plumping, VEHICLE repair, fencing, vet help my neighbors needed the first 5 years I was up here was done by me because 1. They were city slickers, and 2. I was being a "good neighbor" and being a "good neighbor", I didn't charge them.
It didn't seem to matter to some of these burly white collar dudes, that a tiny little gal was operating a Case backhoe to trench their line for their well or septic, it was FREE! Someone's 1200 pound bull gets bloat, let that little gal jab a trocur in it, there's an emergency vet bill dodged......need a plot plan drawn? I was on everyone's speed dial......now they pay to have someone else do their "stuff".

Yep, don't give a person a fish, TEACH them how to fish. If they have a computer, tell them to use it. I had to learn everything by book and first hand. I couldn't just "google" "how to sweat copper pipes" or the "proper pitch for a ABS sewer line".

As far as vaping? I had nobody in the area, my ONLY vaping friend lived in Alabama, long way from Arizona. I have read everything I can on ECF, watched countless YouTube videos, read tons of reviews....and if I didn't quite understand something, I posted a question, and the wonderful people here got me back on track. This week I will get my wire and start making my coils, it's gonna be an adventure! But I know if I fry something (like a finger, saw the thread, going to avoid that!), or the coil doesn't work, I can post a pic and ask for some assistance. I've reviewed tons of posts on rebuilding, it's been very cool! I think I'm really going to get into it!

Some peeps are stuck on stupid, they don't WANT to learn, they want it DONE for them. Others just have a superiority complex. This is where Natural Selection and Survival of the Fittest comes in, but we have to be "civilized".

Rant done, coming on the tails of the BF asking me to see what's wrong with his laptop  "dude, flip the Wi-Fi switch...", "where' the Wi-Fi swi...." It never ends...................aurrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:2c:

Before half of us end up getting marked as lazy arrogant a-holes who don't want to help people, I feel the need to clarify a little. We are discussing two completely different topics here, all mixed together.

A: New users in need of help and assistance or more experienced users who want to exchange opinions/experiences or learn something new.
B: People who expect you to do all the thinking, exploring, repairing and legwork for them for ever and ever and ever.

I think it's great being able to help and/or discuss anything with (A) as much as they need, with patience and politeness. I couldn't care less about being (B)'s little pet helper. Still, I try helping them as much as I can without becoming just that.

Happens to me a lot.. Use to it from owning my own computer business for a bit..
So, I give advice, making sure they know that it's my own opinion and may not suit them..
If they want me to tag items on an order for them, I make sure they understand that they are paying the full cost of shipping And that I get to add at least 1 item for myself, as long as it's similar in cost to what they ordered..

I like getting to order the extra items!! :D

Don't get me wrong, I love talking to people about vaping. LOVE it. I will help anyone who asks for information or a place to start. I will go to the vape store with you to make sure you get what you need. I will give advice, direction, answer questions, etc. all day and night.

That's not what I was griping about. What I meant was the people who are perfectly capable of doing something themselves and yet ask me to do it because it's easier.

If someone asks me what kind of clearo they have so they can search and find a replacement, that's one thing. If they ask me what place has the best price, that's another thing. They can probably find the best price as well as I can.

If they ask me where I got a particular juice they liked so they can order it, that's one thing. If they ask me to order it for them and say they will reimburse me, that's another thing.

If they ask me what's a good battery and clearo to start with, that's one thing. If they ask me to buy mine, or want me to get one for them, that's another thing.

I wouldn't be here at ECF if I didn't like answering questions or talking to people about vaping. I just don't like when people want me to do something because it's too much trouble to do it themselves, or because they're looking for someone else to make it easy for them.

There is a difference.

I don't know. I don't really get involved with forums much anymore, don't dig the drama or flame wars. I invested in this one because it is so friendly and helpful.

I think about the woman in the elevator who asked me about my necklace, it was my Provari. I talked to her about my nicotine vaporizer and she started crying, because for her it was hope. Like me she had quit many times and the unhappiness she felt was greater then the health risks so she went back to smoking.

For some it is a lifestyle and hobby. For most it is life altering harm reduction. For me it is all of that and more. I find people overwhelming, but when I have the energy I do my best to spread the word and invest in others that do that as well. This place is a great way to start.

I believe that issue lies with you and how you deal with others. You need to learn how to assert yourself before you explode. IRL, I am a trainer and most of my work is done through patience, practice and repetition.

Naturally, it's easier to ask someone who has a working knowledge of the device and how to use it. The mechanics and the language of eCig's are complicated and confusing to someone who has never bought or used one before.

I did my research first on help for quitting smoking and came across this forum. I didn't know anything but the Blue eCig commercials I saw on TV. I read as much as I could before making my first purchase. The clerks at the stores are knowledgeable to a certain degree but they are not always reliable.

One B&M had the device I wanted, but gave me half assed advice on juice. He started me out too strong of a juice. Got real sick thanks to him. Before that, another B&M clerk tried to sell me a (more expensive and more complicated) custom rig even though I asked for a Kanger.

Now, if I read this thread first, it would have only scared me away. Luckily, everyone has been super nice and accommodating. You are all my personal Guru's and appreciate your advice. Think about it this way. It only takes one person to change the world. Your advice could help to recruit new users, help them to stop smoking and possibly save their lives.

Just my .02

I love answering and asking questions. Because my family has seen me off of cigs for 4.5 years, they are now slowly switching to vaping. I just wish they would come to me before they buy something to ask if it's good. It can be frustrating to buy something, only to discover you could have done better for the same money or slightly more. I love answering questions here on the forum as well. I also love the fact that i can comfortably ask questions here if I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I know there are some who have the attitude "look it up yourself, stupid" but there are far more here who understand that this is a huge forum and it can be hard to wade through the hundreds of pages to find one post that may or may not help. This is a great community, full of knowledgeable individuals, ready to share their knowledge and personal experiences, each and every time the right question is asked.

Especially when they come up to ya and say:

Them - Lookie what I picked up at da B&M! It's da new XYZ.
Me - Oh yeah, I get those online for $x.xx.
Them -

I understand the frustration. I built each of my family members computers, so naturally I must be a god at troubleshooting every computer problem ever. So now every time a java update comes up on their screen, they think their computer has a virus and i have to fix it. It's the little things like that, which are so easy to answer with a quick search, that really annoy me.

However, simple little things like that, which you and i might not give a second thought, are anything but uncomplicated to the uninitiated. I try to help as much as possible, but once it feels like you're taking advantage of my generosity, I'll just tell you to google it.

I've had this issue a lot in the last year. Mostly it's with people in my family that are pushing 70 years old, so I give them a break and try not to get annoyed. My pat answer is "Every question you have has already been asked by someone. Just type your question into the google bar." Seems to work. The only danger was my Mom treating AW IMR batteries like dollar store duracells (thrown in a drawer, etc) and a quick "You realize they can explode..." stopped that. ;)
