Wow awesome! That looks perfect, thank you for the tip. I would feel more comfortable using that than any kind of gasoline to be honest. I soaked it twice more today and I think it's probably ok to use but i'm just still really nervous about it. That would make me feel a lot more comfortable. I think the metal parts are fine after soaking it so many times, it's the ceramic that i'm more worried about than anything. Thank's again Bishop.

I am so sorry for you physical losses in the fire and your injuries; heal quickly and be well. I have nothing tangible to contribute but just had to reply to your post re: using white (unleaded gasoline) to clean with. I got my SSGGTS in December through the classifieds and had a firing problem. I did as imeo instructed and cleaned it with unleaded gasoline and I washed it in hot soapy water and used a toothbrush afterward. I absolutely could not believe how effective this was in cleaning my SSGGTS! In particular I was shocked, that after multiple cleanings, the amount of gunk and goop that came off the threading.

Hang in there and thank God that you got out of there in one piece.

So where would one get white gasoline from anyways? I'm ignorant on the subject, I have no idea what it really is aside from the quick google search I just did. From what I understand it's the same thing as like Coleman Fuel, correct? If it's safe to use it sounds like it may be the way to go, and then maybe even a bit of the alcohol Bishop was talking about for safe measure. Is it expensive? If it's the same thing as the Coleman Fuel stuff i'm thinking of I believe a buddy of mine will be able to pour me a small cup full to use, that would be great.

Maybe the PERC (used by dry cleaners) could work to clean a GG?

Dry cleaning is any cleaning process for clothing and textiles using a chemical solvent other than water. The solvent used is typically tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene), which the industry calls "perc" or "PERC". It is used to clean delicate fabrics that cannot withstand the rough and tumble of a washing machine and clothes dryer; it can also obviate labor-intensive hand washing.

Tetrachloroethylene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uses

Tetrachloroethylene is an excellent solvent for organic materials. Otherwise it is volatile, highly stable, and nonflammable. For these reasons, it is widely used in dry cleaning. Usually as a mixture with other chlorocarbons, it is also used to degrease metal parts in the automotive and other metalworking industries. It appears in a few consumer products including paint strippers and spot removers.

I remember here in Mexico some dry cleaners used (or use) what they called "White Gasoline", but it seems it is a different chemical that the one is actually used by dry cleaners (or maybe one is a derivate of the other?)

Hi PhreakySTS9. I sure hope you can take some kind of pain killer with those burns you've gotten. Take care of yourself and I'll be pushing positive thoughts and energy your way that you heal as quickly as possible.

Re: White gasoline. Check my previous post. White gasoline = unleaded gasoline. My lawnmower gas can was empty when I wanted to clean my SSGGTS so I inserted my cleaning cloth into my lawnmower gas tank to wet it. I squeezed out the excess and cleaned. I repeated the process, to be thorough, but it was hardly necessary. I used "regular" unleaded gasoline like you put in your lawnmower or car.

I must reiterate how amazed I was at the cleaning effectiveness of "white" gasoline on my SSGGTS especially the threading.

Here's a link to the page with my posts and imeo's responses regarding this process. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to my first post and maybe it will clarify this process. Hang in there.

White gasoline = unleaded petrol from what I understand. In the states they call it gasoline in England we call it petrol it's the same thing. If any one knows any better please do correct me.

Really sorry for your loss Phreaky. Hang in there! It's nice to see that there's such a kind and supportive community behind you.
Thank you Tez, I appreciate the sentiment. I can't even say how much this thread has cheered me up, and brought me a whole new level of respect and admiration for Imeo (which was already VERY high as it is). All the stuff I owned, I barely even used anything but my GGTB and Penelope anyways for the last month or two. I purchased a Smok Telescope so that I could have a cheap mod I wouldn't have to worry about damaging that I could just throw in my pocket and forget about and it broke in two days. My Penelope survived a fire... Hmmm. You tell me what's worth it. A cheap piece of junk, or some amazing devices that will last a lifetime (and even if not by some odd chance will be replaced by the owner himself). Now THAT is service, and that is what I love about vaping.

Ok, well I soaked the parts of my Penelope in white gas like Imeo said, but now I can't get the smell of the gas off some of them. I've soaked them at least 5 times in alcohol and I believe I have them soaking for the 6th time again now. It seems like the scent still won't come out, and obviously i'm not going to use it until i'm 100% certain it's safe to. How can I go about cleaning the gasoline smell from it?

Yep the rest of it is ok but I did soak the ceramic and orings too. :( I didn't know that would happen. The ceramic actually seems ok but the orings still smell like gas. Clouds of Vapor is out of stock on both too. If the ceramic has no gasoline smell would it still be unsafe to use it? It doesn't seem like the orings are going to wash out though, I think I ruined them.

Thanks Imeo. oringsUSA has all the o-rings except for the little 1.78x1.78 (I discovered the o-ring guide finally!), but they do have 3x1.8. I saw that I believe that you used to use 3x1.78 but it made it hard to take apart, but if it comes down to it and I have to order from them will a 3x1.8 o-ring fit?
