I am so mad right now I am spitting and yes I e-mailed the Gov., Pelosi and the the President.

I just got a notice that there has been a change in the way you renew you license. Mine is not due for another 3 years BTW..They said it was changed in 2005?????
Anyway now they want your Birth certificate, any name changes (from Birth) Your Social Securtiy card and proof of residence.
First..I have been married 3 times! now I have to look up marriage certificates and or divorce papers.. I was adopted and I never had my original birth certificate..I have a copy of a baptism..that's it.
I thought it was illegal to ask for your social? The DMV has been hacked I don't know how many times here.

But the biggest issue is that if you don't choose to get your license renewed or get a Florida I.D. card..then you can't fly (no Problem..I won't do that anyway) or be able to go into a FEDERAL building. Yeah I can hear the Feds now when I say I don't have their stupid I.D. when they want me to serve on a Grand Jury ! If I could figure out a way to stop serving on any jury I would. But that leaves..Social Security..I can't go file in a few years.

So it doesn't do any good to just quit driving and use cash instead of checks. I couldn't cash checks without one of their cards anyway! I already have a Military I.D...but not too many place know how to use it intead of a Driver's License..besides It has my SOCIAL as a number!

Can we say BLACKMAIL?

Please save me the Don't you feel safer now speech..If I was a was a terrorist I would KNOW HOW to fake a Driver's License!

Welcome to AMERIKA.

Husband just renewed his last week here in NC .. just handed them old license, took eye exam and the sign test thingy .. that's it ........

When I renewed mine in 2005 I had on a fracture boot and this huge knee brace. They were so busy talking about my accident that I didnt even take the eye test, even though I was wearing glasses. Plus they didnt put the eye glasses restriction on mine, lol I hope it goes as easy this year because one of my marriages was out of state and I really would hate to have to get all the paperwork for it.

This doesn't go into effect in all States at the same time. Also in some places you can renew one more time on-line or at the office untill your card expires or 2014.
Since it is a Homeland Security measure..look for changes in your State.

I am still reading up on it. I researched this a couple years ago when it started out as the national I.D card...which was scraped, they just snuck it in by the back door.

Not all the States are compling..but Florida caved.

Thanks for the heads up MK. I had no idea they were doing all this. I'm going to call next week and see if it's like that here too so I can get started if it is.

I had to do this in January. Yes, I had to have a certified birth certificate and marriage license to prove why my name no longer matched my birth certificate. BTW, this new law is federal not state. You only have to do this one time. They put a little gold star on your license to show you have met the requirements. Start getting your paperwork in order. It only took me three trips to the DMV.

Ah crap... I'll be in the same boat. I don't have the certificate from my first marriage (tore it up and burned it, lol was at the time of the divorce)
Notice the men aren't subjected to this crap:mad:

Wonder if I could just use my original maiden name and save the hassle? My maiden name is on my DL now due to previous state( which is also a pain in the rear since I go by my middle name and it's not on my DL at all) Using the married name isn't a big deal.

I feel you there. I had to produce those things after I got married the second time (almost 2 years ago) and I too am adopted. I was able to get a paper..it's not a birth certificate but something like it from the office of vital statistics. It's accepted the same as a birth certificate and reflects you as after your adoption. Mine lists my adoptive parents as my parents on it.
Funny how they tell us in this new age everything about a person can be accessed through electronic records but when it benefits the citizen not so much. Also, in FL the cost of a DL/ID or replacement doubled

As for the SS card. Yeah it was originally not supposed to be an ID of any sort. I was going to make a dental appt for my daughter the other day and the office wanted me to give them my SS# over the phone...huh?

I was born in Denver Co. So I have to send away for it. It complicates the whole thing since it will be an amended birth certificate from another state. I also see where I can get my original certificate with my birth parents name on it..not sure if I will mess with that can of worms.
Everyone has been blasted even one of our Representatives for changing her mind and voting for that idiot health bill. Why can't they just get it right and then vote?

Ech...out of state I'm sure they have a standardized version of a BC thingie that you can get.

As for just getting it right and then voting. I think it's a reflection of our instant gratification society. We want something...anything NOW better to eat a greasy burger now than wait to eat a healthy meal attitude.

I hate all this..I get so mad. I have been around long enough to see all our rights and freedoms slipping away. I am glad I won't be around in 25 years..it will be a total mess.

Make sure the proof of birth and all your marriage certificates have a raised seal on them8-o My mom let me know this little gem as she had to send out of state for all her proofs and the license bureau said MUST have embossed or raised seal:rolleyes: Mine is due next year and just got all my stuff together.

Argh. I'm extra glad that i went back to my maiden name after divorce years ago. My name matches my birth certificate, so it'll be like I never changed it.

Thats what I did.

As far as the adoption, you can get a BC pretty easy, just send to the state you were born in, they will have a record of your birth. They did for me anyway.

Amended birth certificates are not marked in anyway - no one would know there had been any change made to it. I'm an adoption paralegal - I order these all the time when adoptions have been finalized.

I was unaware of these new requirements - you know I'm pretty sure that there's some government agency that knows which brand of toilet paper everyone prefers seems to me they should marry their databases and stop making everyone crazy -making their jobs easier.....

Why don't they confer with the IRS - let's see - needed birth certificate for social security card - social security number provided to the IRS - after marriage supply marriage license for IRS to show name change - yup they just need to ask the IRS.
