Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish was the best pipe tobacco EVER!

Smoked it for many years until I quit smoking pipes due to a very rough winter of illness. I've always inhaled my pipe smoke and I KNOW what true throat hit is. I've had my DSE601 for less than 24 hours now. Tried the LOW cart that came with it...YUK (like Prestone). Tried some RY4 from LiteCigUSA in a BLANK...still car radiator flavor. Tried ANOTHER BLANK with some J.C. original (reduced PG, MED) still car radiator flavor 4 awhile, but now I'm starting to get a little better flavor...now that I'm ready to pass out. I'm getting INSANE vapor AND nice throat hits from my DSE601. Perhaps I got a really good atty in this one OR maybe my throat is so dried out that I'm getting a "fake" throat hit?? I cut a little slot (only about halfway down) into my "jewel cover" with a Dremel cutoff wheel and now I just use a DIME (yes 10 cent piece) to remove/replace the cover...works great and not visually noticeable at all. I like this thing (I call it Darth Vaper), but I hope the atty lasts more than just a month like I have read about time and again. Not sure how long Shawn at LiteCigUSA will warranty this thing, but for $72, I hope it does last awhile. Has anyone tried any of the J.C. REDUCED PG juices in their DSE601? I love the Tennessee Cured & Chocolate Truffle in my VX2 ecigs, so I'm REALLY HOPING those flavors will work in my DSE601.

I got my 601 today. Some observances:

The button top batteries will charge in the standard 601 charger. The button top is partially exposed, but it makes enough contact to work.

I will also happily confirm that the button top batteries work fine in the pipe.

I've been sucking on this thing since I got it about 2 hours ago. I love the feel of it in my hand... something I've missed since I stopped smoking a pipe a while back. I'm not terribly happy with performance. I can get a decent hit if I suck for about 6 seconds... but not the occasional light puff that I enjoyed with a real pipe. I imagine that's because it's only 3.7v, and the atomizer is so far from the mouthpiece. I'm also not getting the large volume of vapor. It could be that I got a less than stellar atomizer, or that it needs to be broken in.

I've found what I consider the perfect flavor (for me). I combined Liquid Xpress's Cherry Cordial with a little Lorann's Chocolate. My favorite pipe tobacco was Cherry Cavendish, and this comes close.

I'd also like to pass on a great deal that I've found... Midwest Vapor is going out of business, and they are selling the mouthpieces for $2.50 each. I just bought 4, for a total of $15.50 shipped.

I'm sure I'll add more follow up.

Oh... thought I'd add that I haven't picked up my Prodigy since this got here! (Of course, it's only been 2 hours).

Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish was THE BEST pipe tobacco EVER! Have you ever tried J.C. Chocolate Truffle? I use the Reduced PG in my VX2's and I love it. The J.C. Tennessee Cured is quite good as well. Please check out my latest post about DARTH VAPER.....and may the vaping force be with you

Hey guys...great thread. I have a 601 that I've been using (alternating with an 801 and some other units I'm evaluating.) My initial impressions of the 601 were great, but my vapor production has come down. I've using the cleaning cycle without much luck and the pin hole at the rear, also without much luck. Still has good vapor production, but now where it was. Also it seems like all flavor has gone. I'm not a mint or menthol person and the initial flavor I was using (JC Tennessee) seems to be gone, while it produces solid flavor on other units. Thoughts?

when doing the cleaning cycle...when you look down at the atomizer does it glow bright orange? if it helps...when i do the cleaning cycle...i use a freshly charged battery and i gently blow into the atomizer while the atomizer is lit to help it get hotter.

BTW....im still on my original 601 and its still going strong after all these months...even with the cracks on pipe bowl...altho i do notice the battery life on all 3 of my batteries are getting weaker.

Well, it appears to glow momentarily until smokes swirls around it making an interesting tornado effect. Maybe I need to blow in there a little. It seems to be producing a fair amount of vapor, though not at the level it did for the first few days. It's the lack of taste that is bothering me the most. Maybe I need to let it bake a bit longer. Think I did 15 seconds, blew it out and then another 15 seconds.

Okay...got it working well now. When I looked down into the atomizer doing a cleaning cycle I could hear the sound of the atomizer running (whooshing) but it really wasn't glowing brightly. Making a little whirl of smoke...but no bright glow. So I let it run for a while on a newly charged battery (really long...maybe 35 seconds) and lo and behold started to smell a really nasty smell and then saw a bright light. Blew it out good and ran another cycle. Working like a champ now!

Glad to hear it working better now...we all know now that the 601 can hold up to a 35 second inhale:thumbs:if anyone was brave enough to try

The pipe needs several long slow draws to really heat up to create the best vapor. If you still are unable to get a decent cloud out of it after four or so draws, consider a warranty replacement.

My first atomizer was weak, It never created the massive clouds of vapor that asidrave demonstrated on his videos. I was pretty frustrated and gave up trying to make it work after two days. I returned it under warranty back to China. The replacement was fantastic. While you are ati it, try to pick up a spare atomizer if you have the cash available.

The DSE601 is a real pleasure to vape when you have a good atomizer. If you have to make direct inhales to the lungs for a decent vapor cloud, I would guess the atty is a little weak. HealthCabin has a 6 month warranty on the atomizer, I believe. Send it back for a replacement. Should not cost you much more than $3 or so for return postage.

The only place I know that readily sells replacement atomizers is ruyandirect.com. Make sure you register on the website so you get the best price.

I ordered from healthcabin.net. Where can I get just the atty? Are there any U.S. suppliers that anyone knows about?

I recently got my new attys from Shawn at LiteCigUSA.net at 33.20 a piece (after 5% discount for ecf5 coupon). I see that his website now lists them at 39.95, which would be 37.95 after the discount. Still a good price, given that this ships from Jersey Shore, PA, rather than China, and so arrives in days rather than weeks. Also, Shawn's service is impeccable.

I'm doing cleaning cycles of up to 2 min continuously, without any problems. And, yeah, doing this once a day really helps.

You should see the orange glow right away though -- 5 sec max. It may be obscured by gunky vapor, so just puff into the tube to blow this gunk away. If you still don't see the light, there might be smth wrong with your pipe.

Thanks...was concerned I was frying it, but without a daily cleaning cycle vapor production is not good.
